10186-1 (Inv) General Grievous - UCS
1085 Parts, 2008
Sets: Star Wars: Ultimate Collector Series: Star Wars Episode 3

We have this set. Built it with my son. He played with the statue for 5 minutes
and then ran off with the light sabers and never returned. I still use the
stand as it is a nice turntable for display.

Jen

I never built the set, but I did a draft of 4 of them way back at BrickWorld.
So many useful parts for the time, especially in quantity!

Another question about a different part:

Part No: 90398 Name: Minifigure, Utensil Statuette / Trophy
*
90398 Minifigure, Utensil Statuette / Trophy
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil {Copper}

Any idea's about the color?
I received pictures compared with other copper parts from the period, but it
doesn't really look like TLG 300.

Diana

It is from years later and perhaps is another TLG color, but it is copper color.
I'm not sure it would be worth getting a new color.

It is a painted copper coating similar to Metallic Silver or Metallic Gold.
I would like to see this added as Metallic Copper to the BrickLink colors.

It doesn't look at all like the other Metallic Copper parts.
Closer to 300 then imo. But it is a painted copper coating indeed.

What about:
139 Copper (2003-2008)
300 Copper, Drum Lacquered (2008-2012)
346 Copper Metallic (2017-2020)

This part is also a strange in-between color:

Part No: 95676 Name: Minifigure, Headgear Helmet Gladiator
*
95676 Minifigure, Headgear Helmet Gladiator
Parts: Minifigure, Headgear

Keep in mind that all collectifig parts from that era were produced by a factory
contracted by Lego, since Lego hadn't built their own factory in China yet.
So it was a little harder to tightly control colors.

Thank you in advance!!

Is it a shiny matte coating on top of the plastic, or the color of the plastic
itself? Could you show a photo? Pearl Gold has a lot of variation, and Metallic
Gold isn't known for this part...

‘Vibrant Coral’ is now ‘Coral’ again and ‘Vibrant Yellow’ is now ‘Neon Yellow’.

Ah. Would be great if there were a new thread from the BL catalog team, especially
with the other color info from the last decade that has been scrubbed with this
thread cancellation.

Niek.

Yes, please create a new announcement post once you settle on a name, @admins

Okay, I’ll rescind if you tell me:
1. How many of the parts in the pseudo-scorpio are Galidor.
2. And how many of the other parts were available when Galidor was alive.

1. All of them
2. N/A

I updated the main image with a photo.

The printing isn't great but at least it shows the accurate printed pattern.

That's great. And what of the LEGO stamp on the clamp, that Susan has brought
to the cat-team's attention?

That makes it even more likely that it’s authentic, no? All of my flags have
the Lego text, vintage or not.

At some point Lego updated the flag mold so the square part of the flag is longer
past where the clips start, working as reinforcements for the clips. BrickLink
doesn’t recognize that variant.

Huh Am I speaking Greek? If so, how cool that would be!

I'm referring to the CatAdmin's announced new catalog image that's
missing the LEGO embossing. Which was referenced in the OP's statement supported
by pic. In which I reinforced with my reply and pic.

Catalog pic integrity to reinforce "authenticity" as it were...

I did misread, sorry! As long as the pic is of an actual part though, I don't
think it needs to show the side with the LEGO logo...

Note that the image in the catalogue is a render.
I tried to look at the pictures of the smaller sets it appears in but it’s not
very easy to tell.

So it’s etheir this one or a custom or fake.

Looks legitimate to me. Printing from that era often had bleeding issues, so
the black areas could easily turn out larger than they should have been or have
fuzzy edges. This looks very similar to my own copies of the part.

Is it possible or no? No other marks on it. Maybe it is an old version? Or fake

Molds are updated often over the years, not to mention in several different factories,
each needing their own molds. As long as it says LEGO on the hips (either perpendicular
or parallel to the hips), I wouldn’t doubt its legitimacy. For reference, there
have been literally hundreds of different 2x4 brick molds over the decades, and
they all have different markings underneath.

We are aware of the uselessness of the Light Pink color name. However, some sellers
do use it for the oldest pink color (currently not recognized on BrickLink).
In fact, when we did a "Pink Survey" a few years ago, Light Pink was the number
2 popular choice for the name of the old pink color, tying with Peach Pink.

So it has been suggested that we just use Light Pink for the earliest pink instead
of creating a new color. I still think Paradisa Pink is more intuitive. The only
problem is that the color shifted about halfway through Paradisa, which would
make the inventories a mess to work out, and strictly speaking, both old pinks
belong to the Paradisa line.

Situations like this are the biggest reason why we put off making decisions.

I like the use of it as 17 Rose Hopefully someday the Paradisa inventories
can reflect that, even if it means adding a bunch of alternates like in other
mid-color-change sets like 10030.

Metallic Silver or Pearl Dark Gray (where mata masks ever even released in that

Much more likely flat silver or pearl light gray.

It's 179 Silver Flip/Flop, which BrickLink does not recognize as a unique
color. It looks like sellers have it listed as 4 different colors, so... take
your pick I guess.

Part No: 32569 Name: Bionicle Mask Akaku

32569 Bionicle Mask Akaku
Parts: BIONICLE, Kanohi Mask

How many pieces are available in flipflop?

Six masks in Silver Flip/Flop, six masks in Yellow Flip/Flop, and two masks in
Red Flip/Flop. That’s all.

So there are more of each than light pink.

Light Pink doesn't even line up with any Lego color. Most of the parts
listed under that color are poor color matching to Pink or Light Salmon (since
fabric colors are never a perfect match for ABS). The Clikits part is just some
standard transparent color in Polypropylene material. If your argument is that
BrickLink should reflect Lego colors more accurately (and I'd agree with
you there), using Light Pink as a reference point might not make the best case

After looking at many images of this set on ebay/google images, it seems this part in Reddish Brown never came with Dark Pink icing — even the BL pic for Reddish Brown looks a little translucent. It's polypropylene Trans-Dark Pink, same as the later ones, but the material makes it look more opaque than normal.

Because no one ever wondered why it didn't include the word curved?

Would you like it to include the word "curved"?

I vote yes please

would you please confirm that it is actually 366 and 367. 366 would be bad news
as we already have a LDraw color in place: 366 - Earth_Orange

How about shadow RGBs for these opal colors?

Cheers, Willy

If LDRAW is following Lego's numbers, Earth Orange should be 12. If LDRAW
is not following Lego's numbers, then there's no problem, just use another
random number for these new ones. If LDRAW is inconsistent in its numbering,
that should probably be addressed before adding new colors

Part No: 6934a Name: Tile 3 x 6

Problem is, Scala has its own connection system and we don't know if these
parts are only compatible with those connections. Will the tile and dish attach
to building system parts?

If anyone has these parts and can assist us in making this decision we'd
appreciate it.

Yes, both of them work perfectly well with System parts. The Scala dish can fit
any 2x2 round part on top, and can fit on top of either a 2x2 jumper or any
4 studs. The 3x6 tile doesn't have any tubes but the outer rim works just
like a regular tile. Neither of them use any connection types that are unique
to Scala.

Would that move the giant modulex gap out of my color chart? Does Lego use every
number sequentially?

Yes and, more importantly, no. There are colors that have more than one number
within Lego's system. There are many colors that were given a number but
never actually used in anything other than prototypes. There are numbers which
probably have a color, but we just haven't found a reference to it yet. And
there are many, many numbers which just refer to "Multicombination" (marbled/dual-molded)
parts.

While I do like to use Lego's color numbers, they don't always work 1:1
with BrickLink colors. Some of them (like new and old Dark Pink) have two different
Lego IDs, but are impossible to tell apart IRL. Others (like all the different
coppers) have been consolidated to make things simpler for buyers/sellers, since
the parts they come in don't really have much overlap.

As for Modulex... Lego's IDs for them often overlap with normal Lego colors.
5 Brick Yellow and 5 Mx Buff are both the same tan color. Same with 11 (Mx) Pastel
Blue (maersk blue). Others have no color match, but may have conflicting IDs.

Yep, lots of variation in this color. They used to be noticeably more yellowish
on occasion — the newest ones have fixed this problem, but they're now a
bit more milky-looking than before. I think they changed the plastic type.

They did change the plastic used for transparent parts (from polycarbonate to
methyl methacrylate-acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene), but the color problem existed
before that.

yep — I don't think I worded that clearly enough. It used to be extremely
variable, sometimes appearing yellowish, sometimes not. Now it has been stabilized
BUT at the expense of creating yet another variant.

Hard to tell for sure without other colors in your photo to compare it to, but

Technically it’s supposed to be Blue, but it’s a harder, more fragile plastic

The additional notes state:

"Alternate item number 28697 is used for transparent colors. This mold variant
has no bubbles and number 28697 molded on it. It has been found in two variations
clear and frosted as showed on additional images."

So it seems the catalog admins are aware of the difference and have decided not
to reflect it in the catalog here? Personally I think this is a mold variation
worth recognizing.

I agree. I had about 4000 of the old kind, and went to the Lego store to get
1000 more to finish a MOC. They only had the new frosted kind, which would look
very out of place next to the ones I already had, so I had to find them elsewhere.

For sellers, these should be easy to separate. I'd also like to see the rounded
vs. flat ends separated in the catalog but that may be more difficult

TLG's color IDs are vaguely chronological, but it's based on when the
color was created/added to the palette, even if they aren't actually used
in sets right away. Some colors never get used, which explains the gaps in the
IDs.

I haven't figured out the methodology behind the numbering of the first 30
or so colors, but I think it has something to do with Modulex...

I wish it were that easy, but old Dark Red had a LOT of variance, and sometimes
looked like New Dark Red. And lately New Dark Red has been a bit milky some of
the time... so there's no real way to separate the two.

You could separate them into "milky dark red" and "darker dark red" perhaps,
which — apart from adding confusion — opens a can of worms when it comes to other
colors. Do we start separating all the different shades of White too?

Trust me, you don't want this. Lego colors don't match up with BrickLink
colors one-to-one; BrickLink has consolidated several colors to make it sensible
for buyers and sellers. Do you really want to have to separate your Cool Silver
parts from your Silver (pearl light gray)? Or call chrome silver and metallic
silver both Silver Ink?

I don't know if I can be confident that my 1997 bread is really Earth Orange.

I was going thru some used parts and noticed I have 2 different shades of pearl
gold. I see that the plate round 1x1 comes in pearl gold and pearl light gold.
Is pearl light gold real or is it the lighter shade of pearl gold listed as pearl
light gold? I have attached an image sorry if quality is terrible, the 3 on the
left are the darker shade pearl gold.

Those are all Pearl Gold. This color shows a lot of variation:

Pearl Light Gold hasn’t been used in a long time, and never for 1x1 round plates:

Yes, that does appear to be a new colour, which LEGO abbreviates to 'TR.
BLUE OPAL'.

Lego calls it "362 Transparent Blue Opal". And there's another new color:
6294242 in set 43173. I'd assume it's "Transparent Pink Opal", but I
haven't found confirmation on the name/number yet.
