i'm sure for many people bricklink is simply a hobby, as for me, but the
shops at the top can't be sinking thousands of hours and dollars into something
because it's fun right? i want to know where these colossal stores find their
profit. as a super tiny store, my investment in little ebay listing or lots is
minimal, and any profit tends to come from shipping costs. i'd love to expand,
but with no guarantee of orders, it's a little daunting to invest money into
items that might only be worth $10 more than i get it for. also i only care about
bionicle. lol.

Check out some of the early YouTube videos for Pop's Block Shop. Before
he went full time he was sharing his total revenue numbers. I don't know
if he still shares them.

  Hi all,
could I ask your opinions on what the best technic set is, but from an engineering
point of view?
Not bothered whether it's a vehicle, building or whatever, I am trying to
find an interesting build. Doesn't even need to be a modern set.
Many thanks!

Set No: 851 Name: Tractor

851-1 (Inv) Tractor
305 Parts, 1977

This is my favorite set and the first Technic set I received. It also looks
just like my Grandfather's International tractor.

Out of the last 5 orders I made at Lego Shop@home all had damaged sets with dents,
large creases, partially squashed boxes etc. So in all 5 orders almost all boxes
where damaged. Before this year I had these damages in about 50% of the orders
but not all boxes inside the shipments were damaged. At this moment 100% is more
(mostly more) or less damaged. And yes, of course I contacted Lego and they let
me return shipments and reshipped replacement sets (that also were damaged) or
gave me some extra Insiderpoints.
Lego provides large outer boxes that are filled for less than 50% with sets without
any protection, the sets have too much space for movement. No large airbubbles,
brown paper or whatever.

And although I provide them with pictures, return shipments etc. I do get tired
of it, it gives me the feeling of loosing credibility although it is their mistake.
Their service is good most of the time but a good service starts with a good
product at the first place.

Today I send them a message ‘if I place a new order please remind me I shouldn’t
have done this’.
It really annoys me and is getting under my skin a bit.

It has gotten so much better in my area! They switched from FedUp to UPS and
I have had little to no damage since. I complained every time I got something
from FedUp delivered. Of course FedUp didn't care, but LEGO finally heard
my complaints, maybe? Anyway, they are delivered by UPS now and it is much better.

We recently received our 5000th feedback and upgraded to the orange brick! We've
been at this purposely since 2019 and have shipped out 8754 orders. We have no
social media presence, no advertising etc. and have pretty much lived in the
shadows but I'd like to introduce myself and my store and get to know everyone
a little better and become a bigger part of this amazing community.

My name is Mike, I am located in southwest Missouri, and my full-time gig is
a high school teacher. My wife handles most all of the picking and shipping and
a lot of the listing of new inventory. This store allows her to be a stay at
home mom, put in a couple of hours of work each day and then attend to the rest
of her obligations. I have three young children who also help out with picking
orders and things like minifigure identification.

My store's name is 0 to 60 #fastestshipping, and obviously that fastest shipping
claim is self-appointed. There may be stores that get packages out faster than
we do but there can't be many. We ship everything same day or next day for
orders that come in overnight. USPS does a good job from my location and a majority
of packages will reach their destination within 48 hours of ordering (I haven't
done a study with USPS Ground Advantage to see if that has slowed down from First-Class).
I am really proud of my storage system and the speed of which it allows us to
pull pieces. I store my inventory in 440 wooden drawers 24"x24"x2.5"
which I made out of recycled pallet and shipping box lumber (see picture).

My prices are quite high. This is a second job for me and a part-time job for
my wife, so we try to keep things manageable. We average around 6 orders a day
/ around 270 pieces a day / around 70 lots per day. With our current structure
my wife can spend a couple of hours per day getting the orders out and adding
200/300 pieces to our inventory so our store can maintain its current size. If
our prices were lower I'm afraid we'd have a hard time keeping up. Finding
that correct balance has been the most interesting part of this whole journey.

I'm sure this is more than you cared to know about us but thanks to this
community for everything and nice to meet you all!

Great to meet you. Also looks like you have a good selection of new and used
parts. What does it look like inside the wooden drawers?

I have Instant Checkout enabled, but I can't really get it to work well for
new, complete sets. Does Instant Checkout work for sets? Is there an example
of a shipping table that will work for sets shipping across USPS zones?

Thanks for the help!

This afternoon I decided to part out 12 copies of 70111. In it is this part

Part No: 2445 Name: Plate 2 x 12

2445 Plate 2 x 12
Parts: Plate {Reddish Brown}

Just on a whim, and possibly because I once before witnessed a Furty torso crack
(also from a 70111-1), I gave the plate a rotational flex. Nothing severe, pretty
mild flex. It snapped immediately. So I checked the other 11. They all snapped,
some with more flex, some with barely any flex at all. We are all aware of the
brittle parts from that era. This is the most extreme example I have seen. If
you have any of that part in your inventory, in that color, and there is a chance
it is from that era, pull them out and give them a flex. Listen closely. If they
are about to snap, you will hear a sound of plastic sheering from itself just
before it goes. One of them actually sent shrapnel flying when it went, but did
not hit me. Obviously those will not be listed for sale, but I might think of
a way to work them into a MOC.

Nita Rae

I've been doing the same test for my brown parts before listing them. I
think I have almost a gallon bag of broken brown parts...ugh.

Thanks.

I typically get minifigure sales in an order or part sales. I don't have
many orders where there is a big mix. If there is a mix, it is usually minifigure

  Dear BrickLink members,

In May of this year, the LEGO Group plans to release a new color, and this has
implications for the BrickLink catalog and marketplace. The new color being introduced
is 375 Transparent Black, and we believe it will eventually replace LEGO color
111 Transparent Brown.

As most of you know, the greater fan community has for many years referred to
LEGO color 111 Transparent Brown as "Trans-Black". Up until now, this
name has served us well because there was no official LEGO color known as Transparent
Black. Now that the LEGO Group is introducing a color officially known as Transparent
Black, it will cause alignment problems to have the same name being used for
two different colors.

We anticipate that the introduction of this color will cause some disruptions
over the short term, but we have created a plan of action to minimize those disruptions.

The first thing we will do is change the name of the current Trans-Black color
to "Trans-Brown (Old Trans-Black)". This change is scheduled to
take place at the beginning of April. This will ensure that the name change will
be very noticeable within the catalog, set inventories, BrickLink stores, order
summaries, etc., so that the majority of BrickLink users can adjust to the change.

Next, the new color will be added to the catalog as "Trans-Black (2023)"
to make it very obvious that this is a new color and should not be used for older
set inventories and older parts being listed for sale. This addition is expected
to happen at the beginning of May when set 75346 is released and inventoried:

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1398124

After a 6-month transition, we will remove the text in parentheses from both
color names. The older color will then be "Trans-Brown", and the
newer color will be "Trans-Black". This will complete the transition.

Why not just keep the text in parentheses? Seemed like a reasonable plan going
forward. But why not just keep the text in parentheses instead of removing it
after 6 months.

+1. 6 months is a very short period of time especially for those who have Lego
as an occasional hobby, it is easy to overlook that when many of us visit the
site virtually every day. Apart from this I think the plan is very well thought
through.

Robert

If there is significant pressure to retain the text in parentheses for a longer
period of time, we will consider doing so.

Please leave it in place longer than 6 months. Thanks

After a 6-month transition, we will remove the text in parentheses from both
color names. The older color will then be "Trans-Brown", and the
newer color will be "Trans-Black". This will complete the transition.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The question arises, why have we decided to go the route outlined above rather
than leaving "Trans-Black" aligned to LEGO color 111 Transparent Brown
and creating a new color name for the new LEGO color 375 Transparent Black? There
are several reasons.

First, we want to make sure that we do not create long-term confusion between
these colors, since we believe the new LEGO color 375 Transparent Black will
become the standard color and LEGO color 111 Transparent Brown will become just
another part of the history of the brick system we all know and love. As time
goes by, the older color will not be seen as often and the newer color will be
everywhere. And after what we hope is a relatively short period of time, BrickLink
users will adjust naturally to the change.

Second, coming up with a name for a new color is not an easy task. Although it
looks darker than the current LEGO color 111 Transparent Brown, it doesn't
look much different from what most people would say is some type of "transparent
blackish gray" color. Typically, new color names grow longer over time to
help distinguish from existing colors, so we could end up with something like
"Trans-Very Dark Bluish Gray".

Longer names are something we have come to accept in a catalog that covers the
entire history of LEGO colors, but it helps lower the entry barrier to BrickLink
when we can use simpler names at least for the most common colors. Using the
relatively short names "Trans-Brown" and "Trans-Black" are ideal
instead of retaining "Trans-Black" for the earlier color and creating
a longer name for the new color.

Finally, aligning the names of the two colors with the official LEGO color names
helps us future-proof the BrickLink catalog. By aligning these color names now,
we make sure that any other colors the LEGO Group may introduce within this range
in the future would not cause any further issues.

Thank you for your patience as we make this transition.

The BrickLink Catalog Administrative Team

I'd be in favor of keeping the (Old trans black) in the name longer than
six months. Also could we designated other colors as (Retired), such as brown,
light grey, and dark grey? I think that would help new comes understand the difference
better as well.

I've been playing with Lego sets for years and have always dreamed of creating
a big lego MOC. I've messed around in Studio, yet I find that my models are
bulky, unstable, and overall need a huge cleanup. I thought years of building
giant sets would give me that knowledge, but I don't have that "special
vision" pro-builders have where they know the exactly what pieces they need
and create a work of art. What am I doing wrong?

I think it takes an artist's eye. When I look around at buildings, I instantly
see certain shapes in LEGO bricks. I know exactly what brick will make a particular
design or look. My son does the same. He knows 1,000's of parts visually
and can go to exactly which one he needs to get the look is he going for. Look
at others for inspiration. It takes time and practice for sure.

Good luck.

LEGO has been adding more unique colors in recent years, something I’m sure many
of us welcome. After all, who doesn’t like more shades of red and yellow?

Whether it be something as exotic as Sand Red, as basic as Blue, or fun like
Transparent Orange with Glitter, feel free to share your opinion!

Personally, you can never go wrong with Sky Blue.

After I finished it and ran it around for about 2 minutes checking to make sure
it worked on all 3 channels; I started thinking about how much fun I had building
it. This led me to think about my favorite theme which led me to think about
my top 3 and top 5 themes.

1) Harry Potter-I am super passionate about this theme!
2) Western
3) Castle & Ninjago are pretty much tied
4) Town / City

What is / are your favorite theme(s)?
