The three sets that have sold out so far have reeled in almost $20,000,0000 if
they have a production max of 30,000 of each. I hope they see the demand for
castle is strong.

for me, it took awhile to fully verify it (they kept asking for a certain document
which i kept sending but they kept rejecting until 1 day they accepted it after
like 15 attempts) so id just keep doing it but if it goes on for more then say
3 months then call them to figure it out

I am new to Bricklink as a seller. My store has been open for about a month.
I have had to verify my Paypal account twice with them. I can understand the
first time but the second time seemed to be a little extra. Does anyone know
if this is an ongoing thing with Paypal? I asked them if I was expected to verify
the account every 3 weeks and gat a generic response that did not answer my question.

Maybe this one? Seems to have the right number according to its inventory:

Set No: 044 Name: Jumbo Bricks
*
044-2 (Inv) Jumbo Bricks
30 Parts, 1969
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

However without the box it's only as valuable as its individual parts - which,
don't get me wrong, are valuable.

Would bricklink be the best market for this items? or should I find a local person?
I'm in Minneapolis.

I'll need to learn how bricklink works I've only used other sites for
a few items in the past.

Some of the bricks are very dirty from age. I assume soap and a toothbrush to
clean them will be ok?

I think I might part the extra bricks out if its possible?

Hiya, I'm also a full time picker when I'm not selling LEGO here. This
is honestly probably an ebay item. Auctions are specifically for items you do
NOT know the value of. A place like Bl is for items you know the value of.

If you list it here, you'll have to start high and slowly move the price
down if you want top dollar. Otherwise you can just guess.

The value here is mainly the box, IMO people will pay ridiculous amounts for
boxes, and I must say, that one looks pretty decent. Most people seem to only
want 1 or 2 of these bricks for display or novelty purposes.

Its a great find. I'm envious.

That's insane. Spot price for the gold weight of that is less than $300.

Correction, sounds like it's over an ounce in weight. Spot price for 14K
gold is $1,184.21 USD per ounce. I thought it was a lot less than an ounce.

A troy ounce is 31.1g, this is less than that

This is the only Troy I know:

(...) The LEGO designers tried several things, and as a result there are two very different
versions of the 2x4 Jumbo brick x1446. (...)

I think that we should consider splitting these parts in the catalog. That would
only add two parts, which can be easily identified. They would be the alternate
versions for:

Part No: x1446 Name: Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
*
x1446 Jumbo Brick 2 x 4
Parts: Jumbo Bricks

Part No: x1447c01 Name: Jumbo Vehicle Base 4 x 8 with Red Wheels and Pull String
*
x1447c01 Jumbo Vehicle Base 4 x 8 with Red Wheels and Pull String
Parts: Jumbo Bricks

The inventory updates would be very easy to make, there was no mixed use because
the bricks are not compatible.

The x1447c01 might have used a different color 3001oldb on the end of the string,
but I have not been able to confirm that yet. I would explain 3001oldb-bricks
that have been found.

Part No: 3001oldb Name: Brick 2 x 4 without Cross Supports, with Hole in Top
*
3001oldb Brick 2 x 4 without Cross Supports, with Hole in Top
Parts: Brick

The x1447c01 still need an inventory consisting of the cart, string and 3001oldb.
Sadly, I don't have one yet.

You also seem to have about double the number of red and white bricks that would

I counted 24 white and 24 red, in addition to 6 blue, but according to

Set No: 105 Name: Pre-School Beginners Set
*
105-4 (Inv) Pre-School Beginners Set
24 Parts, 1964
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

it should have only 12 of each.

I'll need to see what sets came with red, white and blue to see if they're
from another set.

Maybe this one? Seems to have the right number according to its inventory:

Parts: Jumbo Bricks {Red}

Part No: x1446 Name: Jumbo Brick 2 x 4

x1446 Jumbo Brick 2 x 4

Most "high value" bricks seem to be mostly either the (much less common)
European version of these bricks skewing the price guide, or one Italian seller.
There certainly is value in this set, but don't look at the highest prices
for individual bricks in the catalog.

I mean, it's not my business so I don't really care, but if it's
BL wish to be law-compliant, this isn't enough. They'd have to moderate
the sale function itself, not just the forum. (And, talking about law-compliancy,
change several other things, such as stop pumping seller's mailboxes full
of IP addresses of their buyers, which is a GDPR violation because it counts
as private data and it counts as irrelevant for the purpose).

BL is law-compliant when BL risks something and, AFAIK, BL doesn’t risk anything
here, only the sellers do.  Actually, also AFAIK, nothing says marketplaces should
enforce those laws in acting, preventing, warning the sellers, applying to the
local authorities or whatever.
OTOH, members can apply to the local authorities to investigate the sellers.
But then I won’t bet on the chances of something happening to those small fishes.

Ehm... I am no specialist but at first sight BrickLink does risk liability if
they share private data that is not relevant for the purpose. (A seller needs
the buyer's address to ship an order, but does for example not need that
IP address). If this data is collected and shared, then BrickLink is the party
doing that. By offering their services in the EU, the GDPR applies. If anyone
files a complaint to the relevant authorities, I think that could make BrickLink
liable for 1) possibly collecting more data than needed, and 2) a data leak because
they share the information with others (the sellers). The related fines can be
serious, so BL does risk something. Compared to other offenders, I think BL is
not at the top of their priority list, but that is no reason not to comply with
the law.

I guess it must be in USD.

No, prices don't change when you change your store's currency. That is,
if you list an item at $1 USD but then change your store's currency to Euros,
that item will now be priced at €1.

No the price doesn't change.

First select the currency, ex: JPY

Then give a price, ex: 1

This will cost 1 JPY.

If you change to USD, it'll cost also 1 USD.

You also seem to have about double the number of red and white bricks that would
normally be included in this set?

I counted 24 white and 24 red, in addition to 6 blue, but according to

Set No: 105 Name: Pre-School Beginners Set
*
105-4 (Inv) Pre-School Beginners Set
24 Parts, 1964
Sets: Samsonite: Jumbo Bricks

it should have only 12 of each.

  Opinions?
I do not have a lot of money to my name a mere 300 dollars in my bank and I could
really use the help with figuring out how to get this to a good home. So I can
also keep surviving.

I was also told to contact lego to ask if they needed this for their vault. I
messaged them but no word back just yet. People were talking about how Lego might
buy it from me or trade me something for it? I could use a job :p

LEGO sometimes buys items for their own collection. Usually, those would be very
rare items in excellent condition. They do not buy "everything they do not
have".

In your opinion what would you buy this for?
I think this is worth at most 300 usd. But it might be worth more to the right
buyer.

Not my field of expertise, so I can't advise on value...
The value is in having the box with it, because not many seem to have survived.
The bricks can be found more easily.

This oddly came with blue bricks as well. Maybe this is a packaging mistake?

-Lina

You seem to have more bricks than were originally included in the set. I agree
with Stuart, probably parts from another set were stored in the same box.

Thanks, I've just double-checked that again by swapping between USD and AUD,
reloading my inventory, repeating this multiple times. The prices don't change.
I even set it to Argentine Peso and Chinese Yuen but the prices don't change.
I guess it must be in USD.

I suspect the blue bricks were added to the box by a previous owner.

Either way it’s used, that is not a good argument, or even a good hint, because
LEGO is very inconsistent on this.  Some moulds have been renumbered while we
can’t see any difference (for instance 3066 = 35256, difference?).  There’s many
moulds that have not been renumbered while there’s obvious differences (that’s
the case for most of the bricks, and, oh, it seems 4079 too ).

You are right about that, yeah.

Ultimately, it's worth that which others are currently willing to pay. Simply
put, further market research advised.

If you're asking what you should initially try to get from those prospective
"others"? I've no advise beyond when in doubt, offer far higher than
your own expectations with a willingness to go far lower when revelation hits.

  Hello everyone,

We are implementing a change of policy in regard to Sales posts in the Forum.
As the number of sellers has grown and as our site becomes more and more of a
premium marketplace, there is more incentive to advertise in the Forum and this
has led to an overabundance of posts under the Sales topic.

To be sure, there are a few members who have abused the Sales post feature, running
what seem to be constant deep discounts on everything in their store or in certain
categories. Most members who post in Sales, however, are not currently abusing
the feature, but we want to reduce the overall prominence of Sales posts.

The policy has been changed from a maximum of one per day to a maximum of one
per month
. Please see the screenshot below.

Sellers posting more frequently may incur a friendly flooding ban for one month.
These are non-cumulative bans and will not go on your record. Bans will be lifted
immediately if the member contacts us and lets us know they agree to the new
policy.

Only the initial post in a thread counts toward the total Sales posts. Replies
will not count unless it is obvious that someone is posting to circumvent the
new policy.

This policy will be in place for the next 6 months after which we will assess
the situation.

**************

A word about "good" sales posts

On the BrickLink platform, visual presentation is a big part of our success.
This is why nice images are so critical to the catalog. When we see the same
one-line-of-text Sales posts cut and pasted over and over, it doesn't really
engage buyers. In fact, you may turn people off with such posts, especially if
they are done with frequency.

We're thinking of running a little contest over the next 6 months to reward
the best and most creative sales posts. More details on that later.

Set No: 8654 Name: Scuderia Ferrari Truck

794 Parts, 6 Minifigures, 2005
Sets: Racers: Ferrari

* Delete 2 Part 4873 Black Bar 1 x 6 with Open Studs (Alternate) (match ID 3)

Comments from Submitter:
While there is no inventory in the instructions, the 1x6 bar with four open studs 4873 has not been used in a new set since 1991 and the other listings for the 2000s contradict the official Lego PDFs. I can say confidently that the open studs version is not a valid alternate part for this set.

Quit Facebook. It's a Skinner box

Didn't know, yes, it's its perfect description, thank you
(sauce: Wikipedia)

Skinner created the operant conditioning chamber as a variation of the puzzle
box originally created by Edward Thorndike. While Skinner's early studies
were done using rats, he later moved on to study pigeons. The operant conditioning
chamber may be used to observe or manipulate behaviour. An animal is placed in
the box where it must learn to activate levers or respond to light or sound stimuli
for reward. The reward may be food or the removal of noxious stimuli such as
a loud alarm. The chamber is used to test specific hypotheses in a controlled
setting.

You might want to check the PayPal and BL addresses match, but other than that
there shouldn't be an issue. But if it is a large amount take precautions
such as photos and delivery confirmation.

not the same or is this actually same head but missing pictures for the dualface.
(sorry for my english).

Nice catch! 👍

Yes, it is indeed a dual-sided head! I have updated the part name and added your
image of the other facial expression to the entry.

Worry less about exactly who has chosen to spend their hard-earned money with
'you' among all of us vendors on BL. Instead take it as an affirmation
of sorts, that you're doing it right

There's regrettably an endless supply of valid places to assign your finite
limits to worry today, prioritize them. Such would be my advise to you, in taking
into account this with other recent posts of yours, Chris.

Chillax and enjoy. Ed's signoff is right in this; Life's good.

what i find fascinating is Lego has been pushing for Diversity...
yet.....they merge Variants

That's the idea. Variants should NOT matter in this case.

But those variances are shown to make people understand they are as important
as the others, and not neglected.

In short, differenting for less discrimination.

Maybe just like as for the Catalog recent changes: you wish this one, but any
will equally correspond.

I have two different variants of this part, but it does not appear to be mentioned
in the catalogue, like I have seen for other similar parts.

I hope I am not overstepping by reporting this.

Also I would be interested to learn if there is any way to find out how the different
variants were used.

There are many examples like this. The mold/print variants of the Mini Doll legs
were not added from the start, so it's very difficult to separate them now.
You can track down the differences from the PCC's sometimes.

level of understanding when it comes to variants?

I wouldn't attribute it to dup accounts, that's kinda silly. More-so,
when Slugger and Duckbricks made their videos, that brought the attention of
a lot of people.

No what is silly is where we have people with barely any feedback/transaction
history jumping up and down about the changes when they don't actually even
use the site for its primary intended purpose? Even the very few occasions when
you yourself have actually placed an order here, sellers appear to of had some
issues?
Using Bricklink as a resource alone is fine yet many of those same users also
expect their voices to be heard as though they somehow know what's best for
Bricklink and its wider user base?

That said, you don't think its a bit strange that we have all these new users
that have so much passion and complex understanding of variants but apparently
not quite enough passion to actually buy those variants that they claim to be
so passionate about keeping?

Therefore in that sense you could say that their arguments to keep the variants
becomes somewhat void?
Well that or they choose not to use their REAL account when it comes to voicing
their concerns which is what I would call "Kinda Silly!"

Or print as PDF and save as.

Or many things, like:
https://www.bricklink.com/orderExcel.asp?orderType=received

Or (you'd better) keep the order e-mails.

It depends what you need and mean.

Hi all,

I wanted to download and save my orders to a folder on my computer. How would
I be able to do that as fast as possible?

Thanks

I have two different variants of this part, but it does not appear to be mentioned
in the catalogue, like I have seen for other similar parts.

I hope I am not overstepping by reporting this.

Also I would be interested to learn if there is any way to find out how the different
variants were used.

Please forgive me if this is in the wrong topic, I couldn't figure out where
it belongs.

In Studio, part 3044c is connecting wrong. The bottom connectors are positioning
the piece one brick too low.

If there is somewhere else, I should be reporting this issue to, please let me
know. I'd submit a fix, but I'm still learning how to use PartDesigner.

In Catalog, Admin_Russell writes:
We have a meeting on Monday (Feb 5) with our catalog admins to go through the
rest of the list and make final decisions. After that meeting, a schedule will
be made for the merges. Due to the large number of minifigure heads in the catalog,
the merge process is likely to not be complete until the end of May.

How did the meeting go? Any updates?

Anyway, it's been a month or so since the original announcement, and there's
been a lot of discussion (both good and bad) since then. I've seen a lot
of dismissive or belittling attitude, and a lot of misinformation or fearmongering
circulating around. I am concerned about losing existing documentation, and concerned
that volunteer work would simply be thrown out just like that, but I do not believe
the catalogue is being greatly "dumbed down", or will continue to be
so as some make the case out to be. I stand by that an umbrella system would
be helpful, and would negate the issues with some of these.

Anyway, I wanted to give my thoughts on the changes, in order of how they are
listed on the Help Center:

Frosted parts:
I think it's pretty clear that this was never an intentional feature, either
caused by decay of the mold, or by changes to mold that are not as visible in
the opaque parts. These traits are not well-documented which causes the catalogue's
set appearances to be misleading, and it's not a consistent treatment, as
the opaque parts are not distinguished the same way (we don't distinguish
"thin" and "thick" walls, for instance, which is the cause of
some of these).

Tl;dr: I'm fine with this change.

Smooth slopes:
Similar to above, this is poorly documented resulting in misleading data. Smooth
slopes are likely a lot more common in the 05-07 ish era of sets. However, much
as Russell has pointed out, even the "smooth" slopes are not smooth.
The difference is just in the amount of texture, and there's not simply two
versions of the texture. This could perhaps also be caused by mold decay. LEGO
did also not renumber the molds based this difference as far as I know. I believe
sets may also even include a mixture of "smooth" and "rough"
slopes.

Tl;dr: I'm fine with this change.

Connection between studs:
This one is easy to see if you know to look for it, and obviously an intentional
change. I would have kept this one.

Chair with sprue mark:
Ditto. I see no reason not keep this one.

Torsos with ribs:
I'll preface this with that I am not a minifigure person. This mold change
would drive me nuts if I was. I'll abstain from making a comment on this
one aside from that I believe Reissue prints should be recognized regardless
of the mold.

Inside supports:
All three of these I feel are different cases:

32064c has a functional difference, as has been discussed, so I would not merge
it.
46212 has a functional difference that is used in sets, and thus, I would not
merge it. That it only comes in transparent colors should not be a factor of
concern.
10247 I believe is fine to merged.

X-shaped axle holes:
I always found this change silly, but I feel like we have pretty good documentation
on it, and thus, should not merge it. The difference is pretty easy to spot.

Hinges:
I would not merge these. LEGO even renumbered these.

DUPLO brick with bottom tube:
Probably fine?

Blocked or vented stud:
Again, minifigures seem like a nightmare, so I'll abstain to comment on those.
"Blocked" and "Vented" feel like almost the same thing though.
However, looking at the domes, I feel those are well-catalogued, thus I would
not merge those.

Distinguishing these two stud-types feels difficult, however. That is where I
believe an umbrella system comes in handy, not for distinguishing the extremely
obvious differences. Same for the axle holes and connection between studs.

Removed determiner:
Inconsequential.

Russell, since you didn't answer my email yet (you invited me to ask questions,
which I did): could you please let me know - either here in by email - whatever
is currently known about the timeline of the changes? Like, how many phases,
which order, how long will they each take, are there pauses between the phases..

We are currently still closed because of all this. I am not going to raise any
more complaints in response, I will accept that Bricklink might not know everything
yet. I just need to know the facts so I know if/how/when we can reopen.

My opinion is clear I think, the last thing I will say on that is these 3 recommendations
for such updates in the future:

1. TIMELY: Inform us all 30 days before a change. This was not an urgent situation.
2. CLEAR: Complete info available of what exactly will change into what. Descriptions
that have been proofread to avoid confusion. (This saves you guys time too, as
the number of replies that are based on misunderstanding for you to work through
will be much much smaller)
3. CLEAN: Make the changes go live on the announced date in a single, clean update

This would greatly help not just me but probably everyone, every service and
every website in the Lego fan ecosystem that is in some way involved with part
numbers.

With that out of the way, looking forward to getting whatever info is currently
available, thanks!

(sorry for my english).

I assume the catalog must be missing one of the correct images. Looks like the
same image has been mistakenly uploaded twice the only other situation I can
think of is that this minifig (sh821) only came with the one print and the one
you have belongs to a different minfig altogether though if that was the case
there would usually be a link along the lines of this part is similar to this
part... Unless that has been overlooked?

Hi and welcome

Picture?

The forum reduces images to a width of 640pixels (height is not a problem) but
results are better when you scale down your images yourself.
Also, there’s currently a bug that trigger a server error for some images.  If
PNG fails, try JPG, and vice-versa

There definitely is a plan when it comes to drawing the line on variants, and
it's a long-term plan that takes into account future upgrades to the system.
We have been discussing these points for almost a year now with various groups,
including our catalog panel. Don't mistake our ability to modify a plan to
accommodate certain groups of users with the inability to make solid independent
decisions

Hi,
The only "plan" i can see unfold on this are unsatisfied customers, there
will be people who will receive not what they are looking for.
And if that indeed is the plan it leads to a degrading catalog path i think.

For the heck of it why not merge the whole catalog to an one part lot, and send
people random Lego , saves the sorting process all together.

Also the hints on future merges are apperent, while the source of the merges
is not yet come up (much).. the lego group being the Owner of bricklink.

I cannot see how these impactfull changes can come somewhere other than at the
decision of the owner.

What i also missed (maby it is somewhere between the 1000's of commente regarding
the merge by now) is a seller protection of some sort in the feedback system.
If a sellers ships two variants of the to be merged parts to its customer; he
will have delivered correctly bit yet he may receive less then positive feedback
due to this merge.

The time and resources used for this pushtrough merge are stunning to me, since
the gains are surely not compensating it as far aa my eyes see.

Best wishes

Bas

Instead of wandering aimlessly with no plan whatsoever and still
no written guidelines for variants, it might be wiser for this website to employ
someone at a high level who is capable of crafting solid, long-term visions for
the future.

totally agree with you,

I disagree with you. Separating molded and printed parts is good, especially
for legs with boots patterns.

Considering the recent displeasure of the community regarding variants, why is
BrickLink adding to the variant problem with new catalog entries like these?

Instead of wandering aimlessly with no plan whatsoever and still
no written guidelines for variants, it might be wiser for this website to employ
someone at a high level who is capable of crafting solid, long-term visions for
the future.

Recognizing molded vs printed is nothing new on BrickLink. And these are collectors'
items 100%. Furthermore, they present no problems in the inventory system.

The parts in the variant project are all mainstream parts and are primarily used
for building, not collecting. We'll get some rules up soon, but it's
pretty clear from the Help overview page what will NOT be distinguished in the
future on BrickLink:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2625

There definitely is a plan when it comes to drawing the line on variants, and
it's a long-term plan that takes into account future upgrades to the system.
We have been discussing these points for almost a year now with various groups,
including our catalog panel. Don't mistake our ability to modify a plan to
accommodate certain groups of users with the inability to make solid independent
decisions.

Here's a pic of our PB 4-Hole. Let me know if you need a higher quality version,
I can email it through.

The image has been added. Thank you!

Totally unrelated, would it be worth mentioning in the Colour Guide additional
silver notes that 131 was reformulated? That's where I got tripped up as
far as classifications go. I know we won't get 131 v1 and v2 as separate
colours, but a line mentioning the change would make things a bit less muddy.
Every person I asked while I was trying to suss this interpreted the 2006 paragraph
the same as I did. Other colour notes have mentions of reformulation/variants,
so I don't think it'd be out of place.

I have updated the 2006 section with a simple edit.

I've been trying to clear this Kraahkan up for so long, this is huge. Thank
you so much, Randy. You're the man(dy)

Happy to help.

Might be worth noting that the reformulation AND the original were both in play
during 2006. As written, it reads as 'there were no 131 v1 parts used in
2006.'

Proposed edit:

2006: The LEGO Group brings back 131 Silver, and a lighter reformulated version,
for use simultaneously with 296 Cool Silver. 296 Cool Silver is phased out, and
not used past 2006. The reformulated 131 Silver is the main silver used after
2006. Flat Silver and Pearl Light Gray are still assigned to parts arbitrarily
based on appearance. There are still two LEGO silver colors mapped to Pearl Light
Gray (131 Silver and 296 Cool Silver) and one mapped to Flat Silver (131 Silver).

These color notes are not meant to be an exhaustive lesson in how LEGO handled
the colors. These color notes are meant to describe how the colors were handled
and mapped within the BrickLink database over its history. I don't want to
muddle up the BrickLink history too much with the LEGO history. That information
is better left for other places.

Fair enough! It'd open the door to a lot of whataboutisms.

I still can't get this glitter layer to come off nicely. Even the ultrasonic
with acetone-based nail polish remover is having trouble shifting it. It was
happy melting some of my tools though... I'm stumped.
