I encounter this occasionally, I just make a note in the description. I do think
however that images and notes should be added to the catalog.
I've also seen pictures of "instructions" that are likely just images of

| Randy,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! (And nice avatar, Blacktron II forever!)
That makes sense, and my only counter-point to that is that Brickset uses info
from here to list minifigures, and being a collector, it's nice to be able
to have each of the alternate figs listed in a collection. Additionally, it gives
sellers more options to sell unique minifigs as well.
Just giving my two cents.
Thanks!

P.S. I'm curious how those decisions are made, is there one person that decides
on all these things, or do a bunch of admins just come to an agreement? Just
wondering

With standard bricks, it's easy, but how do we define dimensions when parts
are not standard?
Maybe I miss something, but I didn't find the rules there:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=261
For example:
The size is [2 x 4 x 2] or [2 x Y x 2] ?
The size is [2 x 5 x 2] or [2 x 4 x 2] ?
The size is [2 x 6] or [2 x 4] ?
[p=bb73]
The size is [4 x 4] or [Y x Y x Y] ?
PS: I put "Y" in my examples, because I don't have the parts in front of
me.

I believe that if this were the case, there would be many, many more nearly similar

Sellers have to be able to identify which part they have in hand with no more
then the text and image for reference. There needs to be some detail that isn't

That simply looks like a print fidelity difference. This happens with many parts.
The printing can change as the equipment wears down, the printing can change
as advances are made in printing technology, the printing can change with part
alignment during the printing process, etc.
In other words, looks like the same minifig to me.

| Can anyone add special Assemblies?
I'd like one added to sell the Hulkbuster suit (76104) vs breaking it down
for parts, but the one I acquired was in a used lot so I don't know for sure
if it's complete.
I guess I could find online instructions and enter in everything for him that
way.

Please someone pay attention while opening them and post here. I noticed when
opening my case that several of them had inner polybags and I couldn't make
any sense of it at the time. In at least one case the entire minifig was inside
the inner bag, but others it wasn't. I couldn't see a pattern. But
while taking pics to inventory them I noticed that some torsos have their arms
on flat instead of slightly forward and at least one of them I know was one of
the ones in the polybag. Could it be that a Chinese factory makes those inner
polybags and the rest is being assembled elsewhere?

| (I thought I'd replied to this message, but it didn't seem to go through?
Either way, here goes).
Thanks! Glad the images are working I can update that Unikitty pic when I
get home tonight.
As far as the Unikitty figs, I figured we'd have the sleeping one as the
main fig (since it's the one in the main instructions) and the other one
as the counterpart (that's what we did when I inventoried the Apocalypseburg
Unikitty set)
And as far as Rex goes, I wasn't sure whether or not to do his backpack as
part of the fig, but figured I should include the backpack (thinking back
to Mos Eisley stormtroopers in sets I have that have brick built backpacks) but
I shouldn't include the trans-light blue pieces (because Sweet Mayhem
has similar boosts, but aren't part of the main minifig).
Either way works, just let me know, because I'd obviously have to tweak the
inventory to put his backpack pieces back in there.
Thanks!

I know that they're in line numerically behind other figs that will be approved

so I can inventory them and get them added to 70831?
Thanks!

They are being held up because of issues concerning the exact build. The rocket
guy has blasts coming out of the rockets. However, we need to decide whether
or not to include the whole blaster backpack assembly or not. Sometimes those
decisions take a while.
The unikitties have similar problems. First, I don't know if we will approve
two different constructions of a minifigure for a single set. This has been done
before, but only on a case-by-case basis.
The sleeping one will get approved for sure since it comes from the primary build.
However, you need to reshoot that one with the head attached as shown in the
instructions. The current pending image shows the head 1/2 stud offset to the
right. It shouldn't cover the Reddish Brown 1 x 1 at all.
I realize the photos on the box and instructions show the sleeping kitty built
the way you have it in your photo, but we try to stick close to the instructions
whenever possible.
Thanks for you contributions so far, especially the images.
Go ahead and move the inventory to pending status using autofill before it drops
off the reservation list. You can add the figs to the pending inventory and the
Inv Admins will address any problems they see.

Too bad it took almost a *DECADE* for the catalog to move in this direction!
People said that more series of minifigs would sell this way from the very beginning
and the catalog would not listen. People said superlots were a pain in the butt
for these from the very beginning and the catalog would not listen. People said
that selling complete sets under the random entry would screw up the price guide
from the very beginning and the catalog would not listen.
Now we have the start of some data to prove that BrickLink lost out on a *LOT*
of potential sales over all of those years because of the unwillingness of the
catalog to move forward on something that the membership clearly wanted from
the very beginning.
It is very nice to see the catalog move in this direction for those of us who
wanted these entries in place for years upon years.
Here's to hoping that all of the other series are added very soon!
|
I agree it has been a pain that it has not happened in the past to maintain the
"purity" of the catalogue. Same with other important assemblies (like Treebeard
and Groot).
I really hope that BL is now seeing the catalogue as a tool of the marketplace
to enable sellers to sell and buyers to buy, rather than something that has to
be defined by rules set in stone from decades before.
Even though they might not be used as much, I hope all the older entries can
be inserted for consistency.
And thanks to Russell for testing this and reporting back on the results, which
are not that surprising. Although all mine went on ebay again this time around.

Very nice. I've sold two of these so far, hoping to move a few more.
I still have one very minor gripe about the name of the random entry. It is
still confusing (although eventually the price guide will hopefully make it's
true nature more apparent).
"Complete Random Set of 1 Minifigure" sounds like more than one minifgure: a
"complete set" in this context, whether it is random or not, sounds like more
than one. I understand why the wording has come out awkwardly because of the
technical BrickLink definition of "set", but the way it is currently worded is
potentially confusing for a newer member.
I might recommend,
(1 Random Complete Minifigure Set)
Then it matches the syntax of the 41775-2 entry:
(Complete Series of 12 Complete Minifigure Sets)

A. Please use the suggestions topic only for new feature suggestions not catalog
related questions.
B. I bought this set new and while I can’t confirm anything, the box size is
similar to assembly square and so I think the size is right. The box is much
thicker and taller than the completed model and so the box does not have to be
as big.

| thank you everyone for the feedback.
It looks like the differences between EU & NA would explain the weight discrepancies
I have seen.
In general are most sets inventoried by EU/UK members?
We don't use IC, so I'm not so concerned about the weight difference
impacting shipping charges as we always weigh the package first before adding
shipping cost and sending an invoice.
I was more worried about the tampering issue that some have experienced and not
wanting to open some sealed sets to make sure everything was included and thus
reducing the value of the set. It looks like that will always be an issue/possibility
then knowing that EU/UK submitted sets are going to be different weights than
what we would see in the US.

How are the weight of sets derived? Does a submitter weigh the sealed set on
a scale and enter weight or is it automatically calculated by the inventory submitted?
I've purchased sealed sets 2nd hand over the years and they never seem to
weigh what is listed on BL. I've read recent posts about sellers finding
sealed sets purchased in stores as "new" only to find their contents were replaced.
I decided to check several sealed sets in our inventory, some purchased at chain
stores, others purchased at LEGO stores or SAH, and NONE of them match what was
listed on BL. On smaller sets they have been as close as +/- 2 grams off, but
on mid-size sets (200-400 pieces), I've seen them off up to +/- 30 grams
This has happened with two different scales, so not sure it is an issue with
an inaccurate scale especially considering the sets we are weighing aren't
always lighter than what is listed on BL, but sometime higher too. I also listed
a boat weight that BL shows as 49.69 grams and our scale wavers between 49 &
50 grams, so it seems to be accurate.
Could the package weight be different depending on country? (an inventory is
submitted by someone in EU and their packaging weighs less??)
I want to list some of these 2nd hand sets that appear to be sealed as "new-sealed"
but don't feel comfortable at the moment given these discrepancies between
what we show as weight and what BL says is the weight.

Sets should be weighed when brand new and sealed. Besides the obvious like instructions,
packaging, sealed sets also contain spare parts, sticker sheets and just the
general variance in packaging material. Packaging material variance is greater
than the lego content, as the thickness of cardboard and plastic varies more
than injection molded lego.
I have weighed items for the Bricklink catalog, and I would enter the higher
weight if I saw variance in the weight. I also used digital scales with sensitivity
down to a single gram for larger items, and down to 0.01 grams for individual
lego parts.
If you sell second hand sets, you are welcome to weigh them and enter your weight
in your inventory for those items.
Ultimately, you will have to package the sets and hence the final weight will
increase for shipping anyway.
I would say the weight is close enough for most people. If there is a big weight
difference, it's possible that either Lego changed the packaging on the set
or changed the inventory to reflect necessary changes to set design in mid-production
of that set. It has happened in numerous occasions, and usually those sets will
be marked as -1, -2, etc in the catalog if someone catches it.

There is absolutely a 10-25% difference in the weight of most sets between the
North American and worldwide markets. The difference is the weight of the paper
for the box and instructions and also the different paper size for the instructions.
I kept data on this for years and compared hundreds of sets. A significant portion
of the sets, boxes, and instructions on BrickLink would need to have two separate
weights in order to be accurate for everyone.
You can always set your own weight for items listed in your shop.
Hope that helps!

I've always presumed it was the weight of a complete set with a box and instructions.
Occasionally I have to refund shipping cost a bit on sets because the BL IC has

Yep, it's the weight of a complete set with instruction etc. (sealed)

Inventories are submitted to BrickLink by volunteers who own sealed copies of
the sets. As of this point, no one has taken it upon themselves to submit these
inventories, so they will not be available until someone does.
As of one month ago (right after Christmas) when LEGO released the huge winter
wave of new sets (160+), 113 of those sets have been inventoried and another
eight are close to completion. That is quite an accomplishment for the BrickLink
members!
You can view the 2019 sets that have not been inventoried yet if you click on
the following link and sort the results by "Year Released" and "Down":
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogListOld.asp?pg=1&itemInvUserID=0&itemBrand=1000&catType=S&v=2
Ignoring the DUPLO sets, you will notice that there are not many sets left to
inventory for the winter wave, but the three you mention are in that list. I
am sure that most of these will be inventoried in the next few weeks. However,
the Speed Champions sets are not the most popular sets, so it may be longer than
that.
Cheers,
Randy

| Hello,
I was looking to define some missing parts dimensions.
[p=bb73]
The size is [4 x 4] or [Y x Y x Y] ?
PS: I put "Y" in my examples, because I don't have the parts in front of
me.

I believe that if this were the case, there would be many, many more nearly similar
parts in our catalog.
Sellers have to be able to identify which part they have in hand with no more
then the text and image for reference. There needs to be some detail that isn't
subjective.

It's because the number of unique sw figures has gone over 1000 so that people
can sort by itemID so now the battle droids will still show up first if sorted
that way.
They are lucky (and I mean, I'm lucky) that I wasn't uploading a ton
of sw minifigs.
I download my inventory and use VLOOKUP functions to find inventory locations
if a part I'm listing already exists in my inventory. I didn't notice
the change until I went to upload and it was consolidating on me. Luckily, it
was just the one star wars figure this time.
It would be nice if they handled something like this during the 10 minute down
time period instead of just willy nilly ...cough....cough... admin...cough russel
lol, just playin. Thanks for your contributions and dedication!
|
Yeah, there's no great time to do something like this since nightly and monthly
maintenance locks everybody out, including me.
But a couple of things to note - no old number was reused by another minifig.
So there should be no accidental mislistings as a result. The other thing is
that there is a permanent record of item number changes:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogReqList.asp?viewYear=&viewMonth=&viewGeDate=&q=&viewStatus=A&itemType=&viewAction=I
And each catalog detail page has a log at the bottom showing changes to that
entry.

Good question. They do look reasonably identical. Someone will have to get
one in hand to be certain. The legs and head have a new PCC, but that doesn't
necessarily mean they are new prints.

the ones at that store had a special cardboard insert. I don't have a way
