I looked at that and it doesn't seem to be able to do what I propose.

as well as others I'm sure, have complained about the average prices that
are grossly inflated due to very high priced parts. On the used side of the guide
it seems it is always the same 2 stores (ex $39.95 for a $0.20 piece).

Why can't we do what they do in some sporting events - throw out the lowest
and highest and then average. I'm sure there is a way to do this.

Lainee

My personal suggestion would be to do like we do at work. Throw away the bottom
and top 10% using the average of the middle 80%.

The bottom, because there are numerous stores list 1 item at less then .01 to
get people there then the remainder of the same item is about average, or above
average. Then there are those that use their store to hold items, Ive seen .05
items for "sale" at $500.00

What do people use the average of the "Current items for sale" info for? I would
think that the 6 month sales average info is much more important. It has been
brought up here many times and I don't understand why people don't use
the 6 month sales average instead?

I am asking this not to be snarky in any way, I am just wondering if maybe I
am not seeing the importance of that information and thus missing out on the
use of it.

Both are useful.

When you want to set a price on a item (buying or selling), you look at how much
similar items were sold for in the recent past but you also look at how much
it can be bought now. And how many were sold and how many are for sale now.

Say something sold for $5 last months but you can’t find some for sale below
$6 now. What help does the past sales give you? Will you wait until the price
goes below $6 again? What if that never happens?

Or the other way around, something sold for $6 but now you can easily find it
for $5. If you’re a seller, if you price it at $6, you won’t sell yours before
all the ones at $5 are sold ; and that could take a long time. And if you’re
a buyer, if you only check the sold price, you’ll be happy buying at $6 when
you could easily have had the item for $5.

All info is useful.

No. Median and quantity average are totally different notions.
(E.g. prices 2x$1, 1x$4, 1x$5, 1x$10, lot average = (1+4+5+10)/4 = $5, qty average
= (1+1+4+5+10)/5 = $4.2, median = the 3rd price = $4.)

Still, you can find the median by looking at the “raw” data and adding all the
quantities until you get to half the total quantity.

  […]
Problem is more, people desperately hang on to non weighted avg prices in stead
of their weighted qty avg.

Problem is people hanging on the price guide

I think a big issue is when someone accidentally (I assume) lists a cheap 50
pence item at £49 (or similar) by mistake, this does impact the avg greatly.
Seen it loads of times.

Interesting idea and it does solve a problem. Another method could be taking
the median rather than the mean. Or the seller could have the option to select
his default preference (eg. Median or Mean Value).

median is already there via the quantity average.
it is stupid to take out the lowest and highest because you cant cancel these,
as they are legit buyable offers.
Furthermore would you delete a part with 4.5 cent as lowest, but dont do to one
thats exactly 5 cent?

The highest parts dont have much impact on the price, because one part at 20
dollars,
is not much recognizable in a complete offer from 20000 parts from 10-15 cent.

Problem is more, people desperately hang on to non weighted avg prices in stead
of their weighted qty avg.

Why not throw out any that are not average, then average what is left.

It's not an issue when there are only 1 or 2 but more than that and
it can get a little annoying.

You can use the Mass feedback link for 3 or more orders.

This issue was observed on Chrome, it may react differently on other browsers,
if so I would love to hear about which ones if the button works!

Thanks!

This is a bit more complicated than what I had in mind (and I am not even sure
where to access it!).
Perhaps the button on each post could be a link to this page, and a category
of “Other” could be added.

Voted yes! I feel like PayPal is becoming overly important on Bricklink. That's
not healthy with a commercial party. PayPal is already getting more dubious.
Monopoly invariably leads to trouble.

Please keep up the pressure. If everyone who needs to pay Sales Tax quarterly
raises a suggestion, will they act?

I'm working on my quarterly tax filing and was hoping to find a column in
the order export information for the tax that was collected on in-state sales.
Alas, it is not.

For those of us that collect sales tax, having that field in the order download
spreadsheet would be extremely helpful, along with the street address and city/zip
code. All of this information is required when filing sales taxes in NY.

Thank you for all you do!

Actually, part (53451) originally came in shiny (harder) plastic when it was
first introduced, but was later changed to matte (softer) plastic. I am not sure
exactly when this occurred, since Bricklink does not differentiate between the
original and revised versions of the part.

Part No: 53451 Name: Barb / Claw / Horn / Tooth - Small

Parts: Animal, Body Part

I think the change occurred very quickly after the Vikings theme as the only
ones I have ever found in ABS are white and from the Vikings theme.

Okay. I can see how there could be other such examples of LEGO tweaking materials
from time to time.
Anyway, I think for such little differences, a simple note should suffice (something
like “Early parts came in harder, more shiny plastic.”). There should be no
need for a doubling of all the colours with shiny/matt variants… otherwise we
could also want a new colour for each material (cloth, rubber, paint…). There
is already enough variation in parts in the “same” material and colour to make
them sometimes hard to recognize.

Regarding parts and colour entry.

It would be good if there were an entry to say whether the colour is matt or
shiny. I have to replace a part on Harry Potter Knight's bus. The original
was shiny black but the part I received as a replacement was matt.

On this particularly set it is rather noticeable so rather than have to email
each seller to ask if they have a shiny black part it would be good if it were
stated. Not sure if Lego make the distinction but it makes a difference to the
look of the set when its a visible part.

All new bricks are shiny. It’s when they are used and get lots of micro-scratches
that they become matt.

Softer materials (plants, horns…) are matt, but I don’t think there are bricks
that come in both ABS and PP or other soft plastic.

So,
either the shiny/matt clash comes from different materials and it’s useless to
differentiate “colour X shiny” and “colour X matt” on BL because no bricks come
in both shiny and matt,
or the shiny/matt clash comes from new/mint bricks vs. older/scratched bricks
and it’s a matter of asking sellers in what condition are their bricks prior
to ordering.

What part are you referring to? Are you sure it wasn't just a worn part?

I understand your wish.

But if there is one thing that it is not, it is simple.

Making and old site based partly on classic ASP mobile friendly is everything
else than simple.

That is probably why they are going with an app.

Kind regards

Thanks for the answer!
Very good to know this from a Bricklink administrator!
My post has no intention to speed up the process but to find answers.
I tried to find related posts but I didn't see the post you've shared
now.

I wish you all a good job on this innovation!
I look forward to see the new mobile website.

Thank you for your work!

Marcos

Clearly BrickLink is aware of the necessity of being mobile-friendly. I don't
believe a suggestion or a vote by members will speed things up any.

If you'd like to see what's being worked on and what's planned for

Nowadays the majority of online worldwide buyers are using the mobile to complete
their purchases.
For example, in China the 83% of customers are buying from a mobile device.

Benefits:
- Buyers are more satisfied and the customer experience would be increased.
- Stores would increase the number of orders received
- Bricklink would have new customers that now are potential customers but, due
to this lack are not customers yet.

The competitor "BrickOwl" has a mobile-friendly website.
But BRICKLINK you are the largest LEGO Marketplace!
Please BRICKLINK, the whole community needs a mobile-friendly site!

They are currently in development of an app. Dont know of an ETA for it yet.

Guys please, support my suggestion

Yes, I'm not using BrickOwl but I saw that they have a mobile-friendly website.
Bricklink as the largest LEGO Marketplace MUST make this simple but very useful
change.

to your bookmark bar of your browser, so you can access them by clicking there
instead of having to scroll right.

I think before improving the interface, first of all a bug needs to be fixed.
This orders received display is way too wide because of all these columns. And
we cannot turn off columns such as additional charges, additional charges 2,
and insurance. I've never used insurance yet it takes up the center of the
display. These columns used to be mandatory for some mysterious reason and their
checkboxes were greyed out in "customize display", but now they have been enabled,
but modifying them doesn't do anything. You can check and uncheck them and
the orders display remains exactly the same. If this bug is fixed, we will be
able to cut down on the width of that page quite a bit, and it can bring a couple
of buttons back in sight. And it will make my list of received orders more comfortable
to look at, too.

I see now that besides this bug there's also another problem that recently
emerged. The orders pages used to have zoom levels that were independent from
the rest of the site. I remember requesting this in the past, this was done specifically
for making these pages fit. That, however, has now been undone again. All pages
have a single linked zoom level. That means you're forced to choose between
either an order list that fits but a Bricklink that's a narrow strip with
half of the screen blank, or a Bricklink that fills the screen reasonably well
but an order page that is cut off on the right side.

I can see it all if I bring the zoom down to 80% but, then of course, I can't
read anything.

Why can't I just click on the BIG Community button at the top right on every

NO, what you have to do is look at all the little buttons at the top in the grey
bar that read:
Forum, Messages, Topics, Search, Stats...
Click on Topics, click on one of those topics and in the top right corner of
those pages it says in little size font: Post New Message....

I use to be good at BL. Thanks for the frustration. I was going to post an
announcement sharing that I am only 1 feedback away from the big 5 double 0 after
almost 11 years on BL but I will probably forget how to find the Post New Message
button in the mean time.
(Why do less than half the members on BL leave feedback? I'd be over 1000
if everyone left feedback. lol. It's the same on ebay.)

James

You can click 'post' before choosing a topic. The link is on the same
bar as 'topics'.

That doesn't show on my screen at all???

I can't even screen capture my desktop to show you that the POST word doesn't
come up for me at all??? I'm confused why it's not there for me???
How can I Print Screen and then paste it in this thread?
Thanks for the help.

No need, I believe you Perhaps it's hidden by CSS because your device's
screen is a little narrow.

My browser already makes feedbacks selectable, I only have to type the first

Please could we have API access to seller's own values for DimX, DimY, DimZ.

Currently, none of the below methods return any seller's own dimension data:

UserInventory.GetInventory
UserInventory.CreateInventory
UserInventory.UpdateInventory

Next I tried to give this guy a coupon that would correspond to the cost of shipping,
but that also didn't work.

See picture. Why is this part blank? That's weird. Why can you only make
a percentage discount conditional and not a fixed discount?

Suggestion: Allow fixed discounts to be conditional as well.

Hello Teup,

Not posting that I think your suggestion is invalid or that a coupon that would
just be "free shipping" (and conditional) isn't a nice idea.

It would seem like you could deal with this now though in 2 ways.

1. Do create a Domestic shipping method that is free over X amount. If you keep
it Domestic I assume it might not get used by others before you remove it (after
they place an order) if that is the plan. I posted some ways to do free shipping
over X here: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1072145

2. Make an agreement and have them checkout with one of your Manual Invoicing
options, and don't charge for shipping.

Cheers,
Cosy

Thanks for your suggestions. I guess I didn't really explain the situation
properly; I would like to offer free shipping on any future orders that may come
from this buyer (and ideally, all buyers in this town). There's not a current
order yet that I want to have it for.
I think I will create a domestic shipping method with a minimum order, as you
suggested, and put in the description that it's only available for buyers
in my town and the next town. Not ideal, but I can at least try it and evaluate
after some time.

I hope this missing coupon feature will be added, as well as an option to offer
a shipping method based on password and/or on region. I'm sure I am not the
only one who for whatever reason would want to offer a shipping method on a selective
or individual basis.

Yes.
Open a WL.
Click “More Options” next to its search field.
Right column, “Items for Sale Options:” click “Show” and look at the options
below, especially the sorting option as by “Store Name” is the stupid and useless
default.
Then click “Apply”.

Note that there’s a “Best Price” sorting option next to “Lowest” and “Highest”
but no one knows what that means.

I used to report errors of incomplete sets listed as complete using the Bricklink
problem center form, and it used to work a while ago, but the requests stopped
being acted upon, (even the most blatant examples), so I stopped submitting them.

Yes all of them - I was thinking of a database query and automated email or
something like that. But really I was just venting some frustration. I know Bricklink

I have all the columns opened up, and the tax information isn't there. It
also isn't calculated in the total amount received from buyers.

It definitely shows on invoices, which is where I look for the address when I
know tax was collected, but to find those orders, I have to look through my filed
orders.

For those of us that collect sales tax, having that field in the order download

"Sounds like a lot of work? You are probably losing money too. The average
sold price is lower than it should be because so many incomplete sets are being
sold as complete. If sellers saw the real average price they would set their
prices higher and Bricklink would benefit from the higher commission.""

Same for boxes of minifigs where SETS instead of boxes are listed, causing an
average price for the boxes far too low.

I don’t want to open a can of worms here, but I think this is a valid suggestion.

Can BL create a fourth entry for a set where is states:

‘Set Entry | Instructions Entry | Original Box Entry’

to become

‘Set Entry | Minibuild Entry | Instructions Entry | Original Box Entry’ ?

The ‘Minibuild Entry’ would contain the valid minibuilds (new and used) from
a set. Sellers are selling minibuilds anyway under 'Set Entry' as new-incomplete
and used-incomplete with the minibuld definition the description.

Separating out the minibuilds would...
- clean up the 'Set Entry';
- improve average pricing effectiveness;
- create an additional avenue for buyers and sellers

Just saying...

Or accept that if you do not want to sell a complete set, then you are selling
an incomplete set or just parts.

Just saying...

There was little information required to enable Onsite PayPal (whether complete
or incomplete as BrickLink information goes), however PayPal Marketplace in my
opinion is a more intrusive agreement.

The fact that you _can't_ back out of it, even when promises were made that
you could, is proof enough that it's more intrusive to some degree. The
explanations for how Marketplace works show at least some of the extent to which
this is true.

Your comment regarding Mini-figures is correct and this does mess up the average
price of sets. A mini-figure is a part and if missing then the set is most definitively
not complete.

I know you don't want to make changes automatically (the seller could have

For example I recently listed Star Wars set. The cheapest 3 currently available

to the sellers description.

The average sold for this set is $22 but since 3 of the sold sets were prices

I hope your not suggestion that BL do a sweep by checking each and every listing

of each and every set? If you are then that would take so much time and effort
that it would be, well for lack of a better word, ridiculous. If I have miss

I answered your last paragraph: “I haven't noticed anything different or

You can’t broaden up a question then narrow it down again when the answer doesn’t

And I think you already agreed to that

It would probably be better since I never use the My BL page for anything, I
don't see the reminder to pay the fees for Bricklink. It might be easier
this way but then it would be something that Bricklink would have to set up with
PayPal and I don't see that happening anytime soon. You also can disconnect
your PayPal account at anytime so no one is forced into this.

Sellers are forced into it when they can’t choose any other payment method than
PayPal Marketplaces.

Buyers are forced into it when they can’t choose any offsite payment method.

They won't be able to log into your account directly, from the way people
are reading it. They _will_ be able to contact Paypal and request a chargeback
which Paypal will probably cheerfully comply with without asking any questions
(and if you're really unlucky, like a guy in my LUG was, Paypal will charge
you a fee for "representing" you when they surrender like Jar-Jar). They _will_
be able to inform Paypal that X money should be diverted to Bricklink as the
owner of the "marketplace".

They don’t, and they can’t. BL has control over the BL-initiated transactions,
but only so they can request PP to delay the payment, subtract a fee, and/or
initiate a refund. They can’t reroute the transaction into their own account,
they can’t access (or even see) your non-BL transactions, it is solely more control
over the payment flow for BL-initiated PP transactions.

Did you ever sign on to a public wifi network and get a warning that even if
the site you're viewing is secure, someone could still be watching the whole
time via the network? Did you ever go into a seedy internet café and log into
all of your bank accounts from every computer in the place? No? Why not? Was
it because you didn't want to worry about what sort of malware might be lurking
in the background, logging all of your keystrokes? Right now Bricklink is the
internet café terminal, telling you that in order to actually use their services,
you have to use their computer to submit payment to them.

It doesn't matter that Bricklink doesn't have you store your login info
on their server. It's the idea of loading Bricklink on the computer that
I use to access financial accounts, after they were hacked so badly that the
entire site was shut down for days...on two separate occasions. Bricklink goes
on Computer A. Paypal goes on Computer B. If they can figure out how to manage
an Onsite Paypal payment by logging into Paypal on a different computer, I'm
fine with that. If they want me to initiate a popup window to process the payment
by clicking on a button on Bricklink, they need to go back to the drawing board.

Maybe. Then the problem is going through the thousands of sellers here and asking
them to add this to their terms, along with a viable means of payment that can
be selected as a placeholder.

About the hacks,I did mention that before. Bricklink has trouble getting features

I've been throwing that out there as the primary reason why only offering
onsite payment is a dumb idea. I'd feel safer dropping my driver's license,
social security card, all credit/debit cards, and the account numbers and passwords
to all of my bank accounts into my mailbox for a day and hoping nobody noticed.
Bricklink and Paypal do not get to play on the same computer in my home, which
makes paying by any onsite payment option about as problematic as having a Chinese
space station land on your head (and I hear that may be a possibility for me
around the same time this fiasco is scheduled to burn down, fall over, and sink
into the swamp).

It is a shame how stubborn Bricklink has become. It was a community at one time,
almost a family. Now it is just them.

Are they going to go through 11,000 stores and remove the Paypal option from
their payment methods when the April date comes around?

Well, no, they simply remove the old PayPal payment method from the main system
once, and then it will be as you say, people (like me) who haven't accepted
will automatically get an instruction to enable the new PayPal. That's what
I assume anyway.... then again, it's Bricklink... they can't even remove
multiple forum posts by one spammer at the same time...

I think they may have already done the first bit as I do not see a payment method
for Paypal or paypal offsite in the selectable payment methods options (drop
down). I really meant from the stores point of view. There are countless numbers
of stores who only accept Paypal - by disabling it as a payment method does that
mean the stores will have no payment methods? That will cause a moderate amount
of chaos. Not everyone reads the forum, by a long way and announcements such
as the one that was made will not have filtered through to all stores. So you
wake up the morning after and find that no one can check out of your store? Sounds
unreasonable even now, but who knows.

Really not sure how this decision was made or why - the ticket thing was a non-starter
- there is more to this than that. Instant checkout has still only mustered less
than 15% of stores - is still buggy. Onsite Paypal is still flawed as far as
a buyer having multiple Paypal addresses and yet here we are ...... ????????

I think I agree with your points, bad decision, but as for the "how" part, well,
I think the transition side of things is possible without too much chaos. I don't
remember exact examples but changes have been made in the past, we'll all
be briefed by email with some setup instructions I think. It was long ago but
I remember multiple currencies were first implemented at some point, and VAT,
and probably they came with instructions too.

Bricklink famously ground to a halt, twice, because it got hacked. The site
may have been restored to working condition, but a lot of us want nothing to
do with risking exposure of our financial accounts to anyone who may be lurking
behind the scenes. Sellers don't want to give Bricklink the level of control
required to accept payments through Bricklink. Bricklink has announced that
in about a month, they plan to scuttle offsite Paypal as a payment option, without
even taking any input from their core membership. The reason stated was that
new, usually one-time buyers, can't figure out where the payment button is
when they select offsite Paypal as a payment option, so they plan to basically
cut off any buyers and sellers who refuse to use any other form of payment, and
who especially want nothing to do with any onsite Paypal options.

Make offsite Paypal an opt-in payment option. Sellers obviously have to select
up front which payment options they will accept. Make all _buyers_ voluntarily
choose to see offsite Paypal as a payment option when checking out. If a seller
does not accept any other payment options, have them flagged as "does not ship
to you", just like if they were from another country and didn't have your
country enabled for shipping options. If a new buyer signs up, they should be
required to read an explanation of how offsite Paypal works, and confirm that
they want to be able to choose that as a payment option before they even see
it appear in lists.

But seriously, don't chase away a bunch of your regular customers in the
hope that you might be able to "grow your business" on the bank accounts of people
who just get sent here to buy a replacement part that LEGO Consumer Affairs can't
provide, or who are looking for just one retired set, and will never log in again
after they receive their shipment.

Was there not a page in my account settings where I could select my payment methods?
And a filter that hides stores that do not accept my payment types?

Then all what needs to be done is make the default setting for accepting Offsite
Paypal "OFF". (I would not recommend the name "offsite Paypal", I think that
name only makes sense within the current discussion. )

Maybe it was this one... https://www.bricklink.com/storeSettings.new.asp

And yes, save offsite Paypal as an option.

That page has been disabled for a while, however buyers can choose their acceptable
payment methods in the advanced search options and Paypal is still listed there.
Not sure about wanted lists cause I don't use that feature, but am sure I
have seen it mentioned somewhere.

https://www.bricklink.com/wantedSettings.asp?viewFrom=P

Thanks for the link - never been there before as wanted lists are not required
for our buying.

Even the payment method element is flawed in design terms. We just had to cancel
an order from someone who chose to pay in euros via Bank Transfer. We only accept
UK pounds for bank transfers and that is/was stated in our terms but because
we aaccept euros (accepted currencies) they were allowed to choose that currency.
Currencies should be defined against payment methods. If you set up bank transfer
you should be able to say GBP only and have that as a viable payment methods.
Again it is not a complicated thing to do - you could have an all radio button
or individual buttons which would need to be marked by the stores for what they
will accept.

They have gone the other way - here are the currencies we accept and here are
ther payment methods you can use. ?????????

behind the scenes.

But seriously, don't chase away a bunch of your regular customers in the

who just get sent here to buy a replacement part that LEGO Consumer Affairs can't
provide, or who are looking for just one retired set, and will never log in again
after they receive their shipment.

New Stores can't add Offsite Payment Methods since 8th June 2017.
IBAN is an exception after completing the New Seller Verification process.

Since the change was made to put the large "% Praise" at the top of each store
front page neutral and negative feedback are basically the same thing.

This is not obvious to customers leaving feedback - especially new members.

I suggest to exclude neutral transactions from the % Praise calculation - treat
them the same as if no feedback had been left. This seems more accurate than
counting them as negative.

Also I find it strange that the % praise is calculated to 2 decimal places. Does
anyone really think a 99.74 seller is more trustworthy than 99.68? There are
no standards or guidelines for what makes a positive/neutral/negative transaction
-- it is up to the individual opinion. So there is no way this figure is
that accurate.

Maybe it's time to put in a system similar to eBay's, where only the
last 12 months of feedback figure into the % and your rating. It may mask some
unpleasantness from your initial subpar years of dealings on the site, but if
a seller has nothing but positive ratings for the past 12 months, it's a
good indication that they turned a corner from their misspent BL youth. It also
forces a "what have you done for me lately" attitude on the site; those mega-sellers
with 100K feedback whose customer service efforts are starting to slip will see
their recent feedback % start to similarly go downhill (or alternately, this
will wipe out a portion of negative feedback from years past from those buyers
who will never be satisfied no matter how good the service...).

Pros and cons, just like any change, but might be something to consider.

Could a seller put in his terms 'Please pay directly through the paypal site
to XXXXX.net (PayPal address)? That would take it out of bricklinks venue.
That could even be put into the listing.
About the hacks,I did mention that before. Bricklink has trouble getting features
to work why should the sellers feel confident that the same people can prevent
hacking?

Mikael / MikMo

You need to go Settings--Store Settings.Payment methods. Connect to Marketplace.

Please note if you have a regular and micropayment account. Make sure you sign
in with the correct Paypal address for each. I inadvertently switched them (since
the Paypal account that came up to sign in was the one I most recently used).
I figured it out when a payment went to micropayments instead of the regular.

To fix just disconnect and reconnect signing in to the correct one. Payments
are now going to the correct accounts.

Just FYI.

I know stores can select which payment options to accept. I also know that when
looking up an item in the catalog, you can filter by any type of payment option.
Once you get to the Wanted List level, the only option I can find is "store
accepts Instant Checkout", which is worthless to me. There _used_ to be an option
there where you could select "store accepts X payment option" I believe, but
it's been geared more towards their vision of the future now. I have no
idea where you can set a global default for buyer payment options, but I'd
really love to know where that might be. Although, in a month, there might be
no point, as I'm not going to buy here if I can't do offsite payment.
