Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 724 Name: 12V Diesel Locomotive with Crane and Tipper Wagon
*
724-1 (Inv) 12V Diesel Locomotive with Crane and Tipper Wagon
147 Parts, 1972
Sets: Train: 12V

* Delete 1 Part 801 Yellow Door 1 x 3 x 3 Left with Window and Vertical Handle
* Delete 1 Part 802 Yellow Door 1 x 3 x 3 Right with Window and Vertical Handle
* Delete 4 Part wheel2a Red Train Wheel Spoked for Motor
* Delete 4 Part trainrim Black Train Rim for 4.5V & 12V Locomotive Wheels
* Delete 4 Part wheel2ac01 Red Train Wheel Spoked (for motor), with Black Train Rim for 4.5V & 12V Locomotive Wheels (wheel2A / trainrim) (Counterpart)
* Add 1 Part 802a Yellow Door 1 x 3 x 3 Right with Window and Horizontal Handle
* Add 1 Part 801a Yellow Door 1 x 3 x 3 Left with Window and Horizontal Handle
* Add 4 Part wheel2ac01 Red Train Wheel Spoked (for motor), with Black Train Rim for 4.5V & 12V Locomotive Wheels (wheel2A / trainrim)

The trainrims came always assembled before 1980.
The first photo is a sealed one. In all the other photos I found, the doors 802a
and 801a appear with stickers applied on them. So I guess this was the only variant
used for this set. (not 100% sure though)

I have accepted your request for the wheels with rims. I would like to take a
bit more time to decide about the doors.

I know that old set inventories are not always reliable when it comes to part
variants, but I would like to give other people a chance to weigh in on this
before I delete a part variant from a set inventory.

I considered the doors 803 and 804 "undetermined" so why I requested to remove
them. Since my request, I found two used sets coming with the other version (that
looks like the photo of 803 and 804: with vertical handles) In each used copy,
we can see one door with sticker "724" applied. The stickers of both copies look
old and in bad condition, make me believe they were applied many years ago
I attach photos of one copy, which is incomplete (missing few parts or replaced
by other part) The other copy is removed from Markplaats.

IT is hard to find sealed copies of these old sets. I found out that the light
gray rims were still used in 1969 (at least), the year in which this set and
721-1 were released. See
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1086773

The instructions and the box of this set shows the light gray rims. I also found
some used sets coming with light gray rims AND blue battery wagon/blue motor.
I don't know why the light gray rims were never added to this inventory.
I attach also a photo from toysspread.com

Maybe they were never added to the inventory because the light gray rims never
came in the set? I could not find any images of even used sets with light gray
rims, so I am not convinced. I found one image of a pretty good looking set that
had a blue wagon, but the train rims were still black. Where can I find these
images you are talking about? You are making your assumptions for these changes
on the box, instructions, and images of used sets that are not yours and may
have been changed, so it is not convincing enough to me to add the light gray
rims and blue battery box right away. Maybe the blue wagon, but I am not even
sure of that.

Thoughts, Paul?

Cheers,
Randy

Randy,

I did not request to add the blue battery box or the blue motor, I only requested
to change their match Ids. They are already in the inventory. but the way, the
blue battery box and motor appeared in sets from 1970:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=bb06&in=S

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=bb45c02&in=S

I understand this, but the original inventory may be wrong. That is why I look
at everything I can find. I want to know if alternates are the right course of
action or if outright replacements of the main parts are needed in the inventory.
So far, I have not personally found an image of one of these sets with a blue
battery box or light gray rims. You said that you had found some. I asked you
where I could find those images. You have yet to answer that question. I do not
trust anything from the ToysPeriod website, because they steal all of their content
from other sources. In other words, I will not trust that the one image from
that site that shows the blue battery box and light gray rims has all of its
original parts. The image may be from a source that used the box images to complete
the set, but all of the actual parts in the set may have never been those pictured
on the box.

When inventory admins receive a request, they want to see evidence to approve
it. Concerning the light gray rims, we have already two sets from 1969 to consider:
1) Should the light-gray rims be removed from 721-1?
2) Should they be added to 103-1?

The first question is the opposite of the second question because the light-gray
rims are already in the inventory of 721-1 but they are not in the inventory
of 103-1.
Were there any evidence that they came with 721-1? (I don't think so)
So everything is based on how the inventory were created in the early days of
Bricklink. The set 721-1 was inventoried to have light-gray rims and then the
black ones were added. But 103-1 was inventoried to have the black ones in 2006
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeItem.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=103-1&viewDate=Y&viewStatus=1

by the way, based on the evidence of set 138-1, we know that the light gray rims
were still used back in 1969.
I know it is not easy to make a decision, but I prefer consistency in lack of
evidence
By the way, the first photo I uploaded shows the light gray rims, taken from
the website toysperiod.com

Cheers,
Reza

Randy,

This set was in market for 7 years, between 1969-75. Let's assume it came
with the light-gray rims for the first 6 months and came with the blue battery
box and blue motor for the first two years.
I have only found photos of two new copies of it. So it is very hard to find
a sealed copy of this set coming with these variation of parts.
Also, most of the trainrims are already perished, so most of those we see in
photos, black or light gray, may be replicas (non-original).
There are four listings on BL of this set, coming blue battery box and blue motor.
I have seen many others (all used):
https://picclick.fr/LEGO-System-Electric-Train-Motor-45V-ref-103-123727829337.html#&gid=1&pid=1

https://picclick.de/1969-Lego-103-45V-Motor-Box-02-352075274553.html

https://picclick.fr/LEGO-103-45-V-Motor-with-Rubber-253805687635.html

https://picclick.co.uk/LEGO-System-103-Boxed-45v-Motor-Rubber-Tracks-222882399788.html

(click on "see details on ebay")

I personally don't doubt that the blue battery box and blue motor did come
with this set.

Bests,
Reza

I could count at least seven turns of the spring around the black axle.

Comments from Submitter:
The brick with cross supports was released first sometime near 1987-8 but this set was released between 1980-2. So I think it should be removed.

Concerning functionality of Change request: get this error in order to change 3002old:

Comments from Submitter:
Are you suore that extra item is 3705b (threaded) and not a 3705 (normal)? In the instruction of the kit neve use the 3705b item

Nope, not sure at all!

This part was added as an extra in 2010. Unfortunately, the Inventory Change
Requests from back then were not saved indefinitely in the forums like they are
today, so we have no information as to why this change was asked for or approved.

I honestly can't see a reason for it being in there.

Our guidelines for Extras in an inventory state:

Removing or Changing Extra Items - Extra parts can vary depending on when
and where a set was manufactured, meaning that some new sets may include them
and others may not. The quantity of these extra parts can also vary. Extra parts
are typically not removed or reduced in quantity unless it can be determined
that they were originally added or increased in error.

So, to make a decision concerning whether to remove this as an extra part, I
have to somehow determine if it was originally added in error. That is going
to be tough to do after nine years removed from the actual change being made.

Any ideas on how you would proceed with this, Paul?

Cheers,
Randy

Part 3705b first appeared as a regular part in sets in 1986 according to our
catalog. So it seems strange that it appeared as an extra part in another set
two years before that. Based on that it seems that a mistake was probably made
when adding this extra.

The only way to be sure would be to ask the person who added it in the first
place. But even they might not remember it after so many years.

Moreover, what is the use of

Part No: 3705 Name: Technic, Axle 4L
*
3705 Technic, Axle 4L
Parts: Technic, Axle
without

Part No: 4698 Name: Technic, Axle Nut

4698 Technic, Axle Nut
Parts: Technic, Axle

OK now. Fred is trying to have these parts merged, and you are trying to change

Seriously, though, what is the difference between 3230 and 3230a or between
3229 and 3229a?

Cheers,

Based on your explaination, the parts 3230 and 3229 are undetermined variation.
Currently they appear in the inventory of one set so I am requesting to remove
them and add 3230a and 3229a. By the way, blue 3229b or 3230b do not exist so
no evidence is needed for this request
I guess after, we can mark 3229 and 3230 for deletion?

If 3229 = 3229a and 3230 = 3230a.
Then they should merge into 3229 and 3230.
There are no reason to leave them with the "a" version.
If we in the future discovery a different version of the Blue Curved Rail, then
we have a reason to have the "a" and a "b" version again.

Have a nice day.

IT is hard to find sealed copies of these old sets. I found out that the light
gray rims were still used in 1969 (at least), the year in which this set and
721-1 were released. See
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1086773

The instructions and the box of this set shows the light gray rims. I also found
some used sets coming with light gray rims AND blue battery wagon/blue motor.
I don't know why the light gray rims were never added to this inventory.
I attach also a photo from toysspread.com

The photos 2,3,4 are a new one from the store Bluxe.
The photo 5 is form another new copy.

See photo of a sealed bag of this item on a good website for buying and selling Lego that people call Bricklink!

The production date of motor in one of the photos attached is 15 7 69 (Mid July
1969) coming with black train rims. This set was released in 1969. All the other
photos of sealed copies come also with black rims. Maybe we can remove the light
gray one?

The trainrims came always assembled before 1980.
The first photo is a sealed one. In all the other photos I found, the doors 802a
and 801a appear with stickers applied on them. So I guess this was the only variant
used for this set. (not 100% sure though)

I found also a Photo (third photo) from another NIB copy.

No offense Reza, but I don't see a complete dragon in any of those images.

You are right Randy.
From now on, I work always with my own PC that has a large screen

These dragons never came together in new sets, and therefore the inventory is
correct as is.

This dragon came assembled in other sets? At least, the inventory of few sets
that I checked show this.

The hook came assembled in my photos of three sealed copies of this set(photos
1,2,6). In one photo, we cannot clearly see the hook but it is certainly there.
In all my photos, sealed copy or used copy, the hook is the right version.

  Hello everyone,

I'm very pleased to announce that we have appointed a new Inventories Administrator,
to fill in the place that Marek left when he was promoted to Catalog Associate.

For this position we have selected member Paulvdb (Paul), whom many of you may
know as a catalog contributor, inventories contributor, and Forum participant.
He is also an established seller (since 2011, I believe) so many of you may know
him also through that channel.

Paul has distinguished himself especially by his work with older inventories,
sharing many sealed set contents data with the site for some of our precious
old vintage sets. We have found his contributions to be ultra reliable and think
he is going to do very well in this new role.

Congratulations are in order!

Russell

Gefeliciteerd Paul!

I hope you enjoy this position and we accomplish together correcting or completing
inventories of many vintage or newer sets.

Bests,
Reza

Comments from Submitter:
It seems to be wrong hinge, notice how it is in instruction:
http://peeron.com/scans/6844-1/3/

We do not usually accept change requests based upon box images or instructions
alone, as the box images or instructions can sometimes show completely different
parts than what actually came in the set. I would need much more substantial
evidence to accept these changes or add the variants as alternates.

For now, these requests will not be accepted.

Cheers,
Randy

Hey Reza!

Okay, I was able to see most of what I needed to in the photos, but I cannot
for the life of me see the extra light gray gear anywhere. Would you mind pointing
it out for me in the photos? Or maybe you can send me a higher-resolution image
with all three gears (the two regular plus one extra) highlighted in some way?

Thanks,
Randy

Hey Randy

Did you at least spot one of those 3 gears in that photo?
Unfortunately I cannot be sure there are 3 of them not more. It was pretty hard
to see the 3 gears at once from one angle, let alone taking a good photo. God
knows for how long I shacked the box to take a good photo of the gears, to check
the red round bricks (located in a plastic bag under the tray!) and to spot at
least one of the 8 1*2 slope bricks (completely failed this one).

I think I am not yet done with this set, more coming soon

Reza

The Catalog Associate position is the same in terms of privileges as our former
Catalog Admin position. However, it is only a temporary position that we will
use as a stepping stone to the new Catalog Admin position, which will include
both catalog and inventories privileges plus a few other things.

Marek recently completed one year as an Inventories Administrator:

and has done an excellent job. He has brought steadiness and reliability to our

Congratz Marek! You made it happen

I hope you like this new position as you liked the previous one.

If you have got an impression that I only submit inventory change requests and
don't have many new items to add to catalog, then you are wrong
Since you are the new catalog admin, I now feel more comfortable to submit new
items, photos, change requests,... and there will be tons of work to do, if I
get some free time
There was indeed a project in correcting vintage wires suggested by me.

I hope we achieve to finish this project soon.

I dedicate this inventory change request to the first anniversary of Marek (Hygrotus)
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1133413

About one year ago, I got photos of a new copy of 7838 from the store Bluxe in
France(box opened, content sealed). See photos 1-2. The owner of Bluxe confirmed
that the baseplate does not have white dots and that he was sure he didn't
switch the baseplate with another one.
Since all used copies of 7838 that I had seen (about 10-15 copies) came with
the baseplate

Part No: 3811p01 Name: Baseplate 32 x 32 with Set 7838 Dots Pattern
*
3811p01 Baseplate 32 x 32 with Set 7838 Dots Pattern
Parts: Baseplate
I did not submit this inventory change request earlier. But recently I saw another
NIB copy again in France (box opened, content sealed). See photos 3-8 The seller
wrote me that he bought this set himself from a Lego shop back in 80s. The very
interesting thing is that there is the Lego catalog UK/F/B 114978/115078 from
1986 inside the box but this set is not present in any catalog from 1986 (only
sold between 1983-85).
I bought this copy but it is still in Germany and will be shipped to me later.

As a side note, I find it interesting and weird that this set came with a base-plate
that has white dots. The Lego company had stopped printing white dots on base-plates
back in 70s, but then they did it ONLY for this set in 1983, once for the last
time. (if I am wrong, let me know please)

Hey Fred!

Was your set brand new or used?

Thanks,

Hi Randy,

All wires and connectors came assembled except few service packs in 80s like
1135-1, 1135-2, 1135-3, 5065-1,... but the image on the packaging or in the catalogs
for these service packs clearly shows that the connectors came separate however
the image of 5061-1, 5063-1, 702-3 shows the connectors and wires came pre-assembled
(since the purpose of these service packs were different).

AI don't know why all the wires and connectors were listed separate. I changed
many of them coming with sets like 7860,... Maybe these were copied from Peeron?

I think we can list all connectors and their wires assembled unless if we have
a proof that they did not come assembled.

I have this set, and I was counting pieces in order to verify completeness. However I have not found a place to use 2x4 white brick in the building instructions. Maybe it appears as extra part.

Hello

I don't own this set, but when looking at the building instructions (lego.com)

I've found 3 white plate 2X4:
1x step 3 page 8
1x step 7 page 8
1x step 11 page 23

Your instruction is not the same?

You say “plate,” OP says “brick.”
(I say tomato.)

I then say frog!

I provide here all the production dates of black motors in late 1980:
35 0 / 37 0 / 40 0 / 41 0

And those in 1981:
8 81 (found many times), 15 81 (found many times)/ 22 81 (found many times) /
23 81 / 24 81/ 25 81 / 26 81 / 27 81 / 28 81 / 30 81 / 31 81 / 37 81 / 39 81
/ 42 81 / 47 81 / 49 81

8 81 was around the end of February. The most important point is that for the
releases of 7725 in early 1981, what motor was used? And the answer is: bb12va
with production date 41 0.

It is indeed known that TLG didn't throw away anything. Since the motor bb12va
was only used for one or (few) first production run(s) while this set was
in market for four years between 1981-1984, I requested to add it as alternate.

Few comments about the sets 7725 and 7740 that jansc received from their original
owner who also gave me few photos:
7725:
- The box of 7725 is DK/F/NL (those sold in Germany, Belgium and Netherlands
between 1981-82)
- it comes with sleepers without cable grooves (produced between 1980-82)

Part No: 767 Name: Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 without Cable Grooves
*
767 Train, Track Sleeper Plate 2 x 8 without Cable Grooves
Parts: Train, Track
- It does not include 3241c as this one was only released in 1982 and used for
7725, 7730 and 7740 since 1982.

Part No: 3241c Name: Train, Track 12V Conducting Rail Curved, interference-free
*
3241c Train, Track 12V Conducting Rail Curved, interference-free
Parts: Train, Track

7740:
- It does not include 3241c as this one was only released in 1982 and used for
7725, 7730 and 7740 since 1982.
- the two green trays have rounded corners which was only used between 1980-mid
1980. (for this set and other trains like 7720, 7730, 7750 and some other Technic
or universal sets like 8860) This matches with the production date of motor below,
(see photo attached and compare with the photo of another empty box)
- the production date of motor was 13 0. (see photo attached) so the two motors
were not switched between the two sets.
- the sleepers are 747 as for 7725. (this single evidence shows that this copy
was released between 1980-82)
- there are texts in three languages (versus 9) inside the box (right top side
in the photo) which shows that this version was released between 1980-81. Since
1982, they added 6 languages and printed the text in total of 9 languages.
- both boxes comes with all inner trays which is rare and shows that the first
owner had kept them in neat condition

Among many, I also found another used neat copy of 7725 from Ebay of Germany
whose motor was 41 0 but I only have the link of Ebay. The box is complete (all
trays), the train and box neat and it comes even with the wire which was most
of the time missing.

Sets: Train: 12V

* Change 1 Part Black bb12vb Electric, Train Motor 12V Modern Type II with 3 round contact holes {match ID 0 to 3}

Last year, I wrote a thread on Europebrick.com and requested people to provide
me the production dates of their 12v motors.
https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/158820-help-when-were-your-12v-motors-released-lets-complete-the-table/

I learnt a lot from the data I got and corrected the inventories of all 12v trains.
But two questions were no answered, one concerning 7725 and the other 7760. I
am personally sure now that the very early releases of 7725 came with bb12va
(I call this motor type 1; it has 2 contact holes). There is almost no hope we
find a sealed set and even a set with sealed content is not 100% trusted because
its motor did not come sealed in the box and could be exchanged with another
one.
So based on my date, the latest production date of bb12va is 41 0 (41th week
in 1980). The next production date that we found is 08 81 (8th week in 1981)
and it is the motor bb12vb (I call this motor type 2; it has three contact holes
and the pin is integrated with its housing).

Side note: the production dates in 1981 are like that 08 81, 15 81, 22 81, 23
81, 23 81,...
I think this is related to the fact that in summer 1981, the train 7725 (so the
12v trains) were also released in other countries like UK, France and Italy so
they produced more motors in 22 81, 23 81, 24 81,...

The story began as there were one shop in Netherlands who had a neat 7725 with
box. In the desciption, he mentioned that 2731a was missing, so incomplete. After
this inventory change request

https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=231333

The store was "New (and Used) Old Sets" and the user "jansc". He still has the
set in his inventory.
I contacted him and let him know that his copy was indeed complete and requested
him some photos and the production date of his motor. The production date was
41 0! He got three sets 7725, 7740 and 7866 form the first owner who unfortunately
had passed away. He had kept his sets in perfect condition, keeping everything
as the first day.
I also checked photos of 7740 and the production date of its motor. It was from
very early 1980 and the type of box confirms this (will comment more about this)
So I am sure the motors were not switched between the two sets.
Later, I found other used copies of 7725 coming with motor 41 0.

To be continued with more photos and comments.
