  Hey all,

Apologies if this has been asked before but I can not find a discussion for it
and it does not seem that bricklink provide this functionality.....yet at least
although I hope I am wrong. I assumed this would be under the inventories section
but I think this more for sellers to list all their inventory.

What I wanted to do and I believe it would be a really cool feature, is to create
a list of all the lego parts (technic mostly in my case) I own. This way I would
have a list of all the parts I have, then I could for example compare this to
a set I wanted to see if I have the required parts or not. It could also allow
me to do a generic search for sets I could complete, for example it could say
you need 10 parts for this set or 50 for this another one.

Hope I have missed this 'feature', if not - do you think it is a good
idea? Is it something that could/will be added?

At least three ways to do that:

1. Become a seller and keep your store closed.

2. Use BrickStock (or your own tools) and manage your inventory offline.

3. Use https://rebrickable.com/

Awesome thanks, rebrickable is what I needed thanks but it would be cool if it
could be built in to bricklink.

There is good cooperation between BrickLink and Rebrickable. At the bottom of
each BrickLink Set Inventory there is a link to the set at Rebrickable. This
lets you quickly see if you own the set already.
At Rebrickable you can use the Build this Set Feature to see what parts you have
and what parts you need to buy. Once you know what you need, you can use the
Buy Parts to get a list of BrickLink stores that have parts you need. Those
you need can be added directly to a BrickLink cart or you can export the parts
to a BrickLink wanted list.

I am Thea at both BrickLink and Rebrickable.

For all of mine the s number in () corresponds to the copyright year printed
on the hangtag. For example (s17) indicates 2017.

My keychain Tiles with LEGO logo referenced in this post all have the molded
number of 91873. Searching 91873, even when adding the asterisk*, takes one
to the plain 48995, making it difficult to find them to determine how the missing
ones need to be added.
So my questions are
Do the different (s number)s rate their own BL part number, or just a variable
dates note?
If they rate their own BL part number, shouldn't they be listed as 91873
if that is the number molded on the part?

I didn't notice until I was taking a pic for the catalog and then realized I'd just been down this road in another set.

I just took this set apart over the weekend for the first time since it was built
from MISB.
You made me look, and I have 30389c also.

There was no official market for 12v trains in the USA in the 1980s. Anyone
wanting a 12v train system in the USA had to import it.

Trains 7813, 7814, 7817, 7818, 7715, 7720, 7722 and other sets like this one
(7823), 7839 were sold in USA so people could buy them from shops or order them
via "shop at home"

https://images.brickset.com/library/Catalogues/c87sah.pdf

Yes, 7823 was available in USA and it was indeed a successful set.

Thanks for that information. I did not realize that sets 7823 and 7839 with
the 12v metal track were made available through mail order.

I expected all of the other sets you mentioned would have been available in the
USA because they were intended for multi-use with push trains, battery, or 12v
systems (but did not contain 12v metal track).

Did you forget to upload the evidence?

Two more comments:
- I don't know if the bricks 3002, 3003 should be kep as alternates or not.
I don't have any evidence for them coming in later releases.
- I had previously submitted a request for adding one red 1*1 tile as extra.
I gave a reliable evidence. My other inv. change requests were accepted using
the same evidence. But that one was rejected with no comment. I would like to
know why (and it helps me to know).

Reza -

What about the clip lights? I see the thick-ring versions in the photos here:

http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=558274

The other Inventory Admin, Paul, is also the one who added the alternates to
the inventory back in 2011.

Did this set ever come with the thin-ring versions?

Cheers,
Randy

Randy,

For keeping early variant or removing them, there is no good solution but I have
my own philosophy
We know the later variations of clips and hinges came in early 1985. I have checked
light gray hinges since long time ago and I am convinced that we should remove
them for this set. Well, if one day somebody gives an evidence, we can add them
back but I don't think this would happen.

I didn't request to remove thin-clips for this set (from 1986) because I
have not checked enough number of used/new copies in the American market. I don't
know if those copies of 7823 sold in USA were imported directly from Denmark
or were produced in USA. This is a complicated case. My doubts raised as I have
seen few neat copies of American 6393 (with American box in the market of USA)
coming with thin clips in most colors (there come with 6393 in four colors) As
I have seen few used copies of 6393 coming with rare thin clips, I believe they
were still available in 1987. Admin Russel removed thin-clips from 6393 in Nov.
2018
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogInvChangeItem.asp?itemType=S&itemNo=6393-1&viewDate=Y&viewStatus=1

Once I have some more data, I come back to 6393. Unfortunately, I don't think
we find any new 6393, let alone an early release!

Now, coming back to 7823, I think it is better I check some more used/new copies
in the market of USA before requesting to remove them. I will come back to this
in few months.

Cheers,
Reza

I'm fairly sure I remember this not having a special cot blanket, instead the towel was used.

I spent a lot of time researching this, but I cannot find anything definitive
to guide my actions on this request.

The set and box images that I can find seem to show only two yellow blankets/towels
of some sort, but the current inventory contains two yellow towels and one yellow
blanket. Therefore, I believe *something* is wrong. Whether there are supposed
to be only two towels or only two blankets or one of each is unknown. What makes
it even harder is that I cannot find any instructions or official part count
for this set to help me out.

The inventory on Peeron states that the set has two towels and no blankets and
was composed from a MISB set. That piece supports your claim to remove this blanket.
However, the blanket was added to the set by a past Inventory Administrator.
So, once again, we have conflicting data.

I don't know what the right thing to do here is, but my gut tells me not
to do anything without better evidence.

Therefore, this request will not be accepted at this time.

Hi Randy,
There is something wrong. I'm working on our inventory at Rebrickable to
try to get our part count correct too.
Here is a page from a LEGO Fall 2002 catalog showing the part count as 73.
Hope that helps you.

Always An Adventure!

Thank you, Thea. I appreciate the post!

Unfortunately, the advertised piece count of 73 pieces is even *higher* than
the current inventory here. Looking at this request, I would have expected to
see a piece count of 71, but this throws yet another wrench into the mix.
I wish these older sets geared towards girls were easier to get a hold of.

I will let you know if I find out anything else.

Cheers,
Randy

The BrickLink piece count is currently 72 parts and 2 minifigs for a total of
74.
These are only 1 part "minifigs" because currently the clothing is accounted
for in the regular inventory.
If you remove the cot blanket, which really doesn't belong, you will have
a total of 73.

I found the missing part for the Rebrickable inventory - the handwarmer/muff.
Now to find someone who owns one to submit a photo of it to Rebrickable.

Set No: 7822 Name: Railway Station
*
7822-1 (Inv) Railway Station
372 Parts, 3 Minifigures, 1980
Sets: Train: 4.5V

* Add 4 Part 3242 Light Gray Train, Track 12V Conducting Rail Straight

The source is from a NIB set sold on Ebay in Italy.
I have also seen used lots containing 4.5v sets+7822 and 4 extra conducting rails.

This set is advertised 4.5v in catalogs 1980-2 but TLG included 4 straight conducting
rails too so at the end, it was both working with either 4.5v or 12v layout.

I'm not convinced that this set would originally come with conducting rails.
It seems more likely that this seller would throw those rails in with the set
as a service for buyers who might want to use it with a 12V layout. I don't
remember my own set coming with these rails.

This is the only MISB set I have seen. I contacted the seller and asked him more
photos. He didn't know about Lego much and didn't have other train-related
staff. He was certainly not a Lego dealer, that I am sure.

We would never know if ALL copies contained these extra conducting rails.
The problem is that I cannot trust used lots at all as conducting rails are so
common and people have them. However, I attach a used lot containing only 4.5V
sets sold on Ebay in US where 12v train were not sold. We see 3 straight conducting
rails and there may be one extra (or maybe lost?).

I do have another set of photos of an NIB copy but the quality is bad and we
cannot see much.

I also point two things:
1) how did the seller know he had to add 4 extra conducting rails but they are
included in peeron, bricklink,...? why did he do that? I remember he did not
claim the set was complete. In the advertisement, he mentioned something like
"all bags are sealed. Not sure if complete"
2) The conducting rails have contact holes. These are produced between 1980-87.
But they came in two versions. The first version didn't have plastic reinforcements
below the notches (1980-84) but since 1985 they added extra plastic (to all types,
including straight, curved, cross, points,...). See
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1078534

In the photos we can see two conducting rails don't have reinforcements (the
other two are not visible). This is also why I trusted them.

Ok. Maybe you are right about these. But if we add these I think they should
be added as extra parts and not regular parts. They are not shown anywhere on
the box art or instructions. That would fit the definition of extra parts.

I have 2 of this set, one purchased while we were in Europe and another that
was purchased in 1994 at a ToysRUs in Texas. Neither had 12v conducting rails.

If this change request were to be presented at Rebrickable, we could handle it
with an alternate inventory version, giving members the option of choosing the
one that fits their actual set. Since this is not the case at BrickLink, adding
these rails as extras creates a problem for anyone in the future selling this
as a New Complete Set. Buyers would expect to receive the 12v rails, even though
the actual set may have been part of the original production run that did not
include them.

In other situations similar to this, BrickLink has included notes stating the
differences between early and later production runs. Perhaps a note stating
"Later production runs of this set included 4 12v conducting rails." would be
sufficient.

636 Parts, 1986

* Add 4 Part 4081b Light Gray Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip Light - Thick Ring (match ID 1)
* Delete 6 Part 4276a Red Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers and Solid Studs (match ID 1)

* Change 4 Part Light Gray 4081a Plate, Modified 1 x 1 with Clip Light - Thin Ring {Regular to Alternate} {match ID 0 to 1}

Ok, this is a challenging one.
This set was produced between 1986-92 but in US (and Canada?) it was released
only since 1989. So we do not get much info about the concerning parts by checking
the market of USA (like worthpoint)

The boxes (and instructions) of Model team sets (5510-1, 5580-1, 5590-1,...)
appeared in two versions. I read on brickset that the second version was released
in 1990 but I think it was changed since 1989 (like the boxes of trains, supplemental
sets for trains,...) As you see in the photos, there is a catalog of 1989

Catalog No: c89us2 Name: 1989 Medium US (109117/109217)
*
c89us2 1989 Medium US (109117/109217)
Catalogs: 1989
So this particular NIB copy does not help with whether the early versions of
hinges and clips came also with this set or not.

Hinges: the later versions 4276 and 4275 were released since very early 1985.
Since we do not have a proof that the hinges with hollow studs appeared in early
productions of this set, I think we should remove them.

Clips: I know that the clips 4081 were produced first in 1985 and appeared in
early released of 7817-1 and 7745-1 as alternate but also, it appeared in some
sets form 1986-7 in other colors (probably in the US market)!

I have not seen them in any used copy of this set but if they came in some early
releases, we are probably looking to find a rare released (something like 0.5%
of total releases of this set). The cautious decision would be to keep them as
alternate (as that would be very rare) otherwise we can just remove them.

My husband Paul has 2 of this set. We've found the box for one, and it is
a 1990 version(1990 printed on the box) purchased in Germany sometime before
Jan., 1993. There are 2 stickers showing the original and reduced price in DM.(He
is actually using the inner tray right now for sorting while he's building
42055-1, so it was literally right there in front of his nose. )
We aren't sure about the location of the other box and the actual models.
There is a possibility the other one is a different version, because we lived
in Europe from 1984-1993. Give us a few days to find them and report back to
you.

A Great Adventure Together!

Many thanks Thea.
The photos that I attached prove that the thick clips and hinges with hollow
studs came with this set in later releases. What we need to find is an early
release from 1986 to see if the thin clips or red hinges with solid studs came
also with this set. If your sets are from 1990, I don't think they can add
any information with what we already know.

Bests,
Reza

We found the actual models today and the 2 instruction books. Both instruction
books say 1986 1990 on them, so I'm afraid I can only verify what you have
said about the later version.

Comments from Submitter:
7 red 1x2 bricks are actually used in that set, not extra. 6 for the chimney (1 at rear for level 1 - 2 on each sides for level 2 - 2 on each sides and 1 at rear for level 3 - with an arch at front) and 1 as a gift pack in the brown box.

Nice catch!

Yep, I tried building it in LDD without the other two red bricks and it leaves
two holes in the back of the chimney unfilled. I have a feeling they were supposed
to be filled.

Cheers,
Randy

Thanks for verifying the model Randy. I've changed our inventory at Rebrickable
as well.

They contain many unique elements.

I purchased this set at the Lonetree (Denver area) LEGO store on Nov. 9th. There
were at least 20 hanging on the rack. My minifigs look the same as yours, but
the ones at that store had a special cardboard insert. I don't have a way
to take a picture of the set, but my husband scanned the insert.

How would you recommend selling a complete set of CMFs?

Personally, I would do what these other sellers have done and list the whole
set under the random entry. As long as you describe things clearly in your notes,
buyers will understand that they are paying for a whole set. This is one of those
areas where the average prices must be deduced from scanning listings or sold
listings instead of the calculated averages.

It is a shame that the site cannot do something and step in and help sellers
and buyers here, by realising what they need. Some people want to sell and buy
complete series. I thought the primary goal of bricklink was to enable sales
of LEGO, so adding a "complete series" for each CMF or similar series would work
well for those people. Does it really matter that they were never sold that way
by LEGO? If need be, this information could always be added as a note to a complete
series entry.

+1

It's about time!

Here you go. Let's try it out.

Set No: 41775 Name: Character, Unikitty!, Series 1 (Complete Random Set of 1 Character)
*
41775-1 (Inv) Character, Unikitty!, Series 1 (Complete Random Set of 1 Character)
1 Set, 2018
Sets: Unikitty!: Unikitty! Series 1

Set No: 41775 Name: Character, Unikitty!, Series 1 (Complete Series of 12 Complete Character Sets)
*
41775-2 (Inv) Character, Unikitty!, Series 1 (Complete Series of 12 Complete Character Sets)
12 Sets, 2018
Sets: Unikitty!: Unikitty! Series 1

Let me know if you think the random one needs a big question mark placed over
it. If people like this entry and use it, we'll go ahead and add the others.

Hi Russell,
I've updated the Rebrickable Unikitty Series entry, 41775-13, to link to
this new BrickLink entry. Just checked the Rebrickable link on Bricklink 41775-2.
It needs to be corrected to link to 41775-13 at Rebrickable.

Hopefully this type of Bricklink entry will be applied to the other CMF series.
If you add anymore, please message me so I can correct the links from Rebrickable.

Thanks,

Thea

The source of the inventory was a friend's childhood collection. Therefore,
I have changed BrickLink's source to Instructions (previously there was no
source listed).

The submitter says that as far as can be remembered the set came with a thin
ring clip.

To answer Sezar's request for a list of my complete train sets - A reminder
that many 4.5v and 12v train sets are stored in one of 4 large boxes that are
supporting a 6ft x 6ft display. Since 7817-1 is available for checking, it is
the only train car I can say with any certainty at the present time is
in its original state. My father visited us in 1985 for my daughter's graduation.
He is the one who built it from a new box, and my son never wanted it taken
apart because "Grandpa built it." I specified train car because he did take
the minifig to play with.

Thanks for chiming in, Thea.

SezaR, you may not be aware of this, but Thea is an inventory administrator herself
over at Rebrickable. The fact that she purchased the set as an adult and has
kept it isolated is very helpful. I'm also pleased to see confirmation of
Jetlap's information in a European set.

I've approved your change requests with one caveat - I've removed the
thin ring clip (4081a). If you find proof of it in a set, then it can always
be added back in.

Just want to point out that at Rebrickable there aren't separate catalog
admins. Inventory admins add items to both the database and the inventories.

As for the 4081 a vs b in

Set No: 7745 Name: High-Speed City Express Passenger Train
*
7745-1 (Inv) High-Speed City Express Passenger Train
695 Parts, 10 Minifigures, 1985
Sets: Train: 12V
I hadn't looked at my 7745 when you were talking about 12v motors, because
it was converted to 9 volt back in 1994 when I did a display. I did look just
now and it has thick ring clips. But that doesn't mean that LEGO only used
thick rings in all the 1985 sets. If there were some thin rings still in their
stockpile, they might have ended up in any of the 1985 sets.

Looking at 7745-1 inventory at peeron shows it was verified by John P. (legoman77)
with 4081a. Perhaps if you contact him he can shed further light on the subject.

Thanks for correcting the 3002 to 3001. I was just typing up a post about that.
Mine are 3001 with cross supports. and the current 4081 have the thick ring,
but there is a 'small possibility' that I replaced those because of breakage.
