for some reason, Brickstore has some parts with an extra space in the name when
I download to excel. Some examples would be:

Technic, Axle 4L has 1 extra space between Axle and 4L
Wheel 8mm D. x 6mm has 1 extra space between Wheel and 8mm
Bar 4L (Lightsaber Blade / Wand) has 1 extra space after Bar
Wedge, Plate 2 x 2 Cut Corner has 1 extra space after 2 x 2
String, Cord Thin 50cm for some reason has 3 extra spaces between Thin and 50cm

this is only a few of the many instances I've come across.

Brickstock had this issue the entire time I used them. But I switched and noticed
that Brickstore did not have this issue. when looking directly at the part
pages, there's no extra spaces in the names there. Nor do I see this when
downloading the catalog from Bricklink. I did notice that the description of
the item in the "info" box does NOT have the extra space.

Anyone know what the deal with the extra spaces are?

I standardized all of them just a couple of days ago because they had length
dimensions that were undefined.

Axles are similar to hoses in that the length is what is being searched for.
I could search for any hose in the catalog by using a length dimension with the
"L" unit. I could not do the same for axles. I thus made it possible to search
for axles using the "L" unit.

Names of items in the catalog can change quickly, so I would suggest that you
do not link data to the names, but to the item numbers. Item numbers change much
less frequently.

Cheers,
Randy

I can appreciate that items in the catalog can change quickly, but I don't
think I'm unreasonable to suggest that you can at BARE MINIMUM make a post
in the catalog section of the forum stating, "hey dudes, I ninja edited over
50 entries. They won't be in the parts change log"

Can you at least plan on making a blanket change? Maybe post in the catalog
forum, "hey guys, In a day or two, we are changing the every one Technic Axle
names." Or "hey people, on the 8th of every month we are going to make a slew
of changes." This will at least give those who it will effect some time to plan
accordingly.

I would suggest that you do not link data to the names

you know what? some of us do. What's the point of having it if it's
so unreliable that you suggest we don't use it. (part numbers change too,
so having the text data helps find those changes as well) I find it frustrating
when all the sudden I have many errors in my spreadsheets. All I ask is that
you let us know when you do it. At least when you changed all "handles" to "bar
handles" they show up in the change log. (Which I still find stupid because
all handles, except a very few, are bar handles. Why not just change the non-bar
handles to something else?)

It wasn’t that way August 27th (last time I downloaded the catalogue).

So it might be so recent that there isn’t any log yet

There is no log if an Admin edits directly the name of a part without using the
change request form.

Seems they standardized all the axles, I tried my best sometime ago.

It's not that I mind the changes, but there should at least me some kind
of announcement when they blanket change these things. It's become very
annoying when my spreadsheets all the sudden come up with hundreds of errors.

Items that are relatively new to the catalog (just a few months) can't be
moved directly?

From now on, if a part has been in the catalog for more than a few weeks (let's
say 3-4), and it is clearly not an outright error, then it gets added to the
next batch of items to move on the six month interval. Since this item has been
in the catalog almost five months, it is way past the time to just move it outright
without giving sellers the time to be notified and informed about the change
before it is moved.

Cheers,
Randy

I appreciate that you do it that way.

thanks for all your hard work.

Yes, I believe so.

It should at least by 1 x 1 x 4 - then the height would be implicit. I don't
think we have this option with the antenna in the OP since that doesn't have
a stud holder - it doesn't have a length and width, only a height.

I would be fine with doing it that way, also.

* Change 1 Part Dark Bluish Gray 3069bpc1 Tile 1 x 2 with Groove with Vehicle Control Panel Pattern {match ID 0 to 3}

Comments from Submitter:
adding Light Bluish Gray 3069bpb847 as an alternate piece to Dark Bluish Gray 3069pc1. I have personally seen this alternate piece in 2 sets.

This is a new piece. But the old 3069bpc1 has also been found in this set. So
the new piece should be added to the inventory as an alternate.

I tried to make an inventory change for it, but it was over my head on how to
do it. Maybe someone else will give it a go.

What's the deal with adding "Bar" to all the handled entries? for example:

Plate, Modified 1 x 1 Rounded with Bar Handle

Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Bar Handle on Side with Closed Ends

Plate, Modified 1 x 2 with Bar Arm Up

There's 107 entries when you search for "Bar Handle". What's the point
of this? How many situations were there where there was a Door with handle and
people were confused if it was a stud handle or a bar handle or a thin handle.

not to mention that there are several that don't have the "bar" for example:

Dish 6 x 6 Inverted - No Studs with Handle with Wires and Red Panel Pattern

Brick, Modified 1 x 2 with Handle on End - Bar Flush with Edge of Handle

Bar Holder with Handle

Minifigure, Utensil Tool Saw with Handle and Tooth

I'm all for clearing up the inventory names. I feel moving a lot of the
brick, modified with round tops to slope was smart. But adding "bar" to handle
just seems like changing things for the sake of changing things. I don't
know how many of the sellers organize things, but for me, when there's a
sweeping change I have to remake labels, move parts, and adjust spreadsheets.
Heck, it's because of all that hassle that I really hope you don't change
it back.

I voted yes for this, but wouldn't want something exactly like this, but
something more customizable in general.

In Suggestions, qwertyboy writes:
Our shop abandoned using the order details page about 5 years ago in favor of
a homegrown version. It would be nice if BL offered an alternative way of showing
the order items similar to this (I intentionally say "alternative way" as I am
sure there are many people who don't want to have this page changed).

Our order detail page shows each lot as a little picture of the item, with "amount
ordered" - "new/used" - "item ID" - "color" below it, and "inventory left" (see
first pic) (we also have a red border around "new" items to have them stand out
as we mainly sell used items). The page shows 10 lots in a row, and when printed,
shows 10 rows on the first page (so 100 lots on the first page), and 120 lots
on subsequent pages.

Also, with just one additional field in the "order items table" (called "status"
or something similar) you can add some serious useful functionality to the order
details page. When you pick an order with the BL order details page, you can
use the check boxes in front of the items to keep track of what you picked. Until
you (for whatever reason) refresh the page. Boom. All checks are gone. With that
additional database field, BL can keep track of the "status" of an order item.
We use 4 different statuses - "none", "picked", "packed" and "error". In the
first pic you can see the first two items shown green ("picked"), and the other
4 items white (status "none").

Using this database field makes the "colors" ("statuses") of the lots persistent
- you can break for coffee and continue where you left off, you can load the
order on a different device etc.

At the top right we have a quick view of the state of the entire order (see second
pic) - this order has a total of 44 lots, all lots except 4 have been picked,
and no errors found. If you were to add a second field to the order items table
(something like "note"), you can add notes to a lot. See third pic - here we
have a lot where there is an issue (status is "red") with an indicator at the
top-left of the item pic which corresponds to a note at the bottom of the order
details page.

We use a print of this page as our picking list in our orders - no serious deforesting
needed, and annotated lots when there is the occasional issue.

Just some thoughts in case BL wants to revamp the order details page. I am available
if BL needs some technical assistance.

(We don't use the "remarks" field for order picking as we have our inventory
stored by category, but it is easy to change what is shown below each lot picture.
Also, our version packs some more functionality, like if you click on the picture,
you get a popup with the an overview of that item in all colors with amount sold,
amount in inventory, links to inventory history, appearance in sets etc - there
is so much functionality that can be added to the order details page.)

If anyone has any questions or need more pics, feel free to shoot me a message
(and no, this "product" is not easily portable, so we can't supply it to
other shops right now).

Niek.

I absolutely do take that into account.

Here's the problem: standardizing the catalog would result in changes. The
site believes that changes frighten people. Therefore, changes are sometimes
met with resistance. Some changes that have been made were reversed by the site.

it clearly wasn't considered with this change.

It was considered. An appearance of incompetence on our part doesn't equate
to actual incompetence. Other factors are involved.

I won't even get in to why bricks and plate are 1x4 (smaller number first)
but slopes and wedges are 4x1 (larger number first).

Because BrickLink dimensions don't always make sense. The catalog team does
not have the liberty to correct these kinds of problems at this point in time.

thanks for all your hard work. I'm sure it's not easy when people gripe
at every turn.

I don't consider discussion to be griping. Feedback is important and an
ongoing conversation between members and the catalog team is greatly welcomed,
even if we can't always agree on everything.

Keep in mind, though, that every public expression of discontent reinforces the
site's belief that members abhor change. Contacting us privately with dissatisfactions
is preferred. We will respond.

For plate, modified with clips and handles are the two main things I have sorted
in sub-sections. I guess, I also have slope, curved sorted by the 2nd dimension
(like ? x 1 and ? x 2+).

I'm an adapter, so when the changes come in, it's really not that big

thanks for the info. I appreciate the special page listing all the changes.

I'm hoping that when you rename things you will take in to account sorting
alphabetically by part name. For example, It's plate, modified and not modified
plate so that your regular plates are with your modified plates instead of "modified
plate" where your modified plates would be with your "modified bricks".

It's not necessary as much with things that have their own categories, but
Modified plates that have clips are kind of their own category. For example
you've went with the nomenclature of Plate, Modified with OPEN O clip with
Horizontal Grip instead of Plate Modified with clip (open O) with Horizontal
Grip.

I am not trying to get things changed again, I just hoping that in the future
some of this is considered before making large scale changes as it clearly wasn't
considered with this change.

I won't even get in to why bricks and plate are 1x4 (smaller number first)

There's some get-it-done type individuals working on the catalog, now. I
don't know if this has to do with your question: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1200979

...if not, just plug it into the forum search. They are all fairly active on

When did this happen?

First, all the clips were “harmonized” together (capitals, order, names).
It happened between March 7th 2020 and May 20th 2020 (I haven’t downloaded the
catalogue in between these dates).
E.g., for 61252, “with Clip Horizontal (thick open O clip)” became “with Open
O Clip Horizontal Thick.”

Then, the “Clip Horizontal|Vertical” was changed to “(Horizontal|Vertical Grip)”
around the 5th of June, during this discussion: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1200992

You’ll note there have been absolutely no message by the admins that the discussion
spurred the change.
At the beginning of the discussion, there was no “grip,” then it appeared.

Yep, the logs are useless for that.

They are considered the same (for now) if they have the same Design ID/Element
ID numbers (the numbers near the copyright). You can list it as 70418stk01 with
no issues.

Cheers,
Randy

thanks!

I'm parting out set 70418, and I have the sticker 70418stk01. it appears
to be the same at the one shown except the one shown has 128984 in the corner.
Mine has 134071A in the corner. I looked at other stickers that had alternate
items for the north american sticker and the international sticker, and they
had different numbers by the copyright. (see 75106stk01a and 75106stk01b).

My question is do I have a "different" sticker than 704189stk01? According to
the naming conventions with the (60466/6273230) they would be the same. I'm
willing to upload a picture and submit a change report, but wanted to make sure
it needed to be done. If someone buys my sticker with the 134071A in the upper
corner are they going to be disappointed it doesn't have the 128984 in the
corner (though I sell so very few stickers).

thanks,
jed

I voted yes. I always let a buyer know if they payed with an echeck and that
it will take a few days to clear to avoid confusion.

It would also be nice if there was a form email that you could just click on
when status was set to "eCheck". Similar to button to send an invoice or drive
through.

  Please implement standard deviation.

By eliminating the (small number)% cheapest and (small number) % most expensively
priced lots, the average price index would be "more statistically significant"
in scientific terms ( less error margin ).
This is only necessary for items that have at least e.g. 10 distinct lots for
sale.

Why this suggestion ?

Yesterday i noticed one particular seller set all his prices at ( BL avg x 10000
). This caused average price index "lots for sale" to be inflated at least
tenfold
.
Someone else suggested he made a mistake in currency.
If this one shopkeeper persists, unwanted "extreme" inflation may occur on several
very common items, and those lots - for sellers not paying attention when adding
to their inventory - might become impossible to sell.

Voted no.

I do not want BL to remove any data. If you want to suggest *adding* information,
I would be fine with that. (Such as adding the median price.)

To any seller who blindly uses the current For Sale Average to set their prices,
I would have a simple suggestion: Don't.

So, for the suggestion: No. Please do not remove information which is useful
to many of us, just because a few sellers might be using that information in
a silly way (that only hurts themselves).

Back when I took stats, trimming extreme outliers was considered a desirable
practice. This would be particularly true if the outlier was not so much a black
swan as a data recording error or false reporting. Does anyone know if this
advice has changed?

In any case, the notion of "removing" data does not seem to fully apply here.
No one is suggesting it be removed from the price guide. Someone interested
in reviewing every data point is free to look at them where they are reported
in the price guide.

The information that is being suggested to be removed is the mathematical mean.
I don't want that removed. If people want to have additional information
added, such as a trimmed mean, that's fine. But not as a replacement
of what we have now.

Frankly, the only reason I can think of for not making this change is that some
sellers will make fewer and smaller mistakes. That will prevent the rest of
us from enjoying the arbitrage.

Not all prices have normal distribution. Sometimes the outliers are significant.

http://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?P=62360&colorID=11

For the last several months, the trimmed mean for this part would have shown
around $1. The actual mean (which is what currently gets displayed) was $2. If
I had some last month, I probably would have listed them at $15, which would
likely have been the highest listing at the time. And they probably would have
sold by now.

Now, in that case, the mean isn't a particularly good representation either.
But it's a better number for a seller wondering what price they should ask,
than the trimmed mean.

holy cow, what caused the sudden rise in the price of that part?
