Browser?

Can you give a specific example? Which search box?

I put "bricks" in the top search box from the home page in both FF and Chrome
and when I clicked the back button after searching, the search term remained
on both browsers. (Which is not how Chrome worked with the old site!)

Scott

Know what? It works like that for me now too. Weird.

And bricklink seems quite a lot faster now than when I was testing. Whatever
and guess it's all good now. lol

What I want is more options... like

Turn grouping on or off (like solids, transparents, so on)

Sort by various stats, like number of parts, years, color ID #s, how much parts
on sale, so on.

I use this page for updating years used on my monochrome colors and it is very
awkward finding colors. I'm pretty sure it can be pretty simple and useful.

You can do most of this on my color list, which is more complete and accurate
than BrickLink's

http://ryanhowerter.com/colors.html

Apparently can't sort by years used. Maybe separate start year and end year
so it can be sorted?

Oh irc is bit different, it's usually slower so you probably should stay
on (probably change nick to (your nick)_away. You can then read backlog and sometimes
can chat when on same time. No 10 min boot is both positive and negative.

Will probably newer happen (at least not in the near future).
So for now you are welcomed in to the unofficial IRC chat channel.
irc://irc.esper.net/#bricklink (Please use only your own Bricklink username there)

We aren't many in there right now, but it could be use for the same things
that the old chat was.

Have a nice day.
taxan

Yeah I'm usually there too, though I tend to be away, what with 10 hours
a day work.

You may have successfully ordered, but the background issue of releasing without

Yeah this is why I use long, ugly, and unique passwords for each and each site.

Like say E#x3(+hf,RHoodd Uaz'pViPoJr#vBe so on. Gonna love password generator.

I don't understand why they don't just setup another chat server totally
separate from the webserver, throw a link to it on the main page and let people
have at it. I wouldn't even care if it required a separate login and password,
kind of like the help desk does.

Chat disappeared because it was full of security issues.

I really do prefer old chat because it has auto-boot function so it's not
full of "idle zombies". But yeah evenually we need chat. I had quite a few deals
there.

LOL no. chat was removed because it was FULL of exploits hacker used to hack
site couple times. Not because of "rant" and such. It pre-dates that new rule
by pretty long shot.

May I ask what is it you guys don't like about the new forum? Is it the fact
that it uses the "Entire thread on one page" format? or that new comments
appear at the top? Is there other any specific features you'd like to see
over there?

Dagsbricks already posted a good start of things that are sub-par with the MOC
forums.

http://moc.bricklink.com/pages/moc/comm/forum_view.page?id=1

I'll summarize what he wrote:

1 .Comments are limited to 560 characters? Many many posts need to be much longer
than that.

2. A one line text entry field is just wierd? Should be a text box like in this
forum. If you write past the one line it just scrolls and you can't look
back at what you wrote?

3. A new tab opens everytime you click on a forum thread. Why? Most people know
how to use back in their browsers. No need for a new tab

Now I'll add some new ones:

4. This community is used to a threaded style board. Using a flat style makes
it hard to see who replied to who and makes it hard to have a conversation.
One thread per page is fine, but there needs to be some indentations between
posts or at least add the post that was replied to in quotes so that you can
somewhat follow the conversation.

5. What posts have I read? Which posts have new replies? I just clicked on
a few posts, closed the 5 new tabs it created. Reloaded the base forum page,
and the posts I already clicked on didn't change color or anything? How
do I know what I have already read?

6. Loss of Profile info in post. This is supposed to foster community spirit.
Was nice in every post to be able to quickly see a users feedback rating as
well as a link to their store. In the new forum all you see at a glance is their
pic and their username? You have to click on their name to see any of their
info, but even then it only seems to show MOC info. I hope when this forum is
integrated into Bricklink 2.0 we will have more info available about them as
a seller/buyer since that is the focus of this site.

7. No way to preview your post

8. Doesn't interact with the database. No way to link Set/Part numbers like
you can here. ie

Part No: 3020 Name: Plate 2 x 4
*
3020 Plate 2 x 4
Parts: Plate

9. No image linking / uploading?

10. Doesn't auto-resolve html links. In this forum you just copy and paste
a link and it automagically makes it work. There you post a link and you would
have to copy and paste it again.

Well that is my start of what is wrong with the MOC forums. Hope that helps
get you started. I'm sure some others will think of more things

WOW great summary!! Thank you!

Both. and I want to see same forum style as here, only with backend improved
and better search functions. I love how a post can split into two discussions
and can easily keep track. Single track you cant do it. And backwards timewise...
yeah it just does not make sense at all!

The MOC shop needs it's own dedicated sub forum in the boards. Please give
us one.

It has its own forum. The worse forum I have ever seen, but it exists.

Just found it, but that is not what I was thinking about though. I feel the MOC
shop needs to have it's own category here in the main bricklink forum.

Agreed. Also also keep this forum format. I love it. Moc page is supposed to
have structure of new bricklink. I guess it includes that supersucky forum there.

I don't know if this will ever happen but I would love to see that chat rooms
return. They really helped me out when I was new and other as well. It was
also nice to make friends and talk Lego with others to get ideas and tips on
projects. I would hope that admin and the new owner of BL may see that chat
was an addition to the site. It was not the cause of BL 1.0's downfall so
it really makes no sence to take it out

Voted "yes" for chatrooms. I asked about that some time ago because i did not
see the chat available and atleast someone told, that there had been some bugs
or difficulties with chat when it still was available. If someone would know
how to make chat working again, would be nice

Is there any amount of users known that would have effect on chat, in a way,
that would make it slower to use, for example hundreds or thousands or more chatting
at the same time?

What if in BrickLink there were chatrooms for more than just 1, for example 1
chatroom only Lego-chat, 1 for example for things in life in general and so on.
So people could choose which chatroom to go to at different times.

Already exists, you could create rooms.

I didn't realize that the MOC shop had its' own forums.

OMG is that HORRIBLE!

NOT threaded, and it seems to put the most recent comment ON TOP! So you have
to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and read up to properly follow
a conversation.

And clicking on a thread opens it in a new window?

What were they thinking?

I am truly frightened about what this means for the future of the site, if this
is the basis of "BrickLink 3.0" and this is the best that they can come up with.

Troy

Indeed! I would be forced to move on if it has that really bad forum. And the
overuse of light gray on lighter gray or white!

Good suggestion. I made the same one in 2010:

http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=480265

Of course I vote yes.

Thor

I am sure i've made it before as well, probably even earlier then that!

You and others probably did. It is one of those oldies but goldies that never
dies. I still don't know why it was never implemented. It would seem so easy
to code.

I suggested something similar but more strict - ignore works both ways like it
does at one site. You ignore someone and you won't be able to read that person
posts - but that person ALSO can't read any of yours.

Yes, I am familiar with this. The problem I see is that by completely ignoring
someone, you cannot read anything positive, constructive or helpful they may
post to others. Nor can you read anything they propose that may affect your business.
If the problem is that two members cannot communicate in a civil manner, simply
remove their ability to communicate only with each other.

Thor

That's point of ignore function, remove posts you don't want to read.
My suggestion just makes that person cannot read yours either.

I understand Rolf. But ignoring a poster hides ALL posts from that poster, even
the good non-offensive ones. Most people who are ignored do not always write
inappropriate posts. In fact, most of their posts are fine. Wouldn't you
still want to read those?

Thor

Indeed. It is up to you to decide if that person posts probably isn't worth
reading permanently. So far I have ignored 2 persons, so pretty rare for me.

I made similar suggestion a long while ago too. In fact, mine is more flexible,
it's hide ANY branch of discussion. It will hide any replies to that post

Odd effect would be that if some person spammed forum and many people ignored
that person, the forum would be silent to that person.
