Prices have gone up but the selection of parts have gone down (at least in our
area where 3 Lego stores are relatively close).
The good news is that the cardboard boxes they now use hold just as much as the
cups. We purchased one and filled it with 1x1 round plates then poured them into
a PAB cup and found that hold about the same amount maybe with the box holding
just a smidge more. The advantage with the box being rectangular instead of round
means that they are better for stacking square parts like plates or door frames.
And they are definitely more gooder then worser for the environmenta.

1) Buyer leaves positive feedback, but doesn’t change the order status from “Shipped”
2) Buyer leaves positive feedback and changes the status to “Received” thinking
that’s it. Fairly common, actually.
3) Buyer contacts seller thanking them for the LEGO and offers praise of service
and/or product, without changing the status from “Shipped” or “Received”.
4) Buyer and seller are in communication over an order issue, which concludes
with the buyer expressing complete satisfaction with the transaction, again without
bothering to change the status.
In short, there's a good many LEGO fans that simply don’t know, don’t
care or don’t care to know about 'order status duties’ Many just wish to
buy LEGO and that’s it. Which is fine. The changing of order status by the seller
just helps a vendor to clean things up a bit, to stay organized.
|
Good points. I think that after 30 days if a buyer has not changed the order
status to "Complete" then they probably will fall under the category
'dont care' and will not care if the seller changes the status to complete.

Exactly! Shoppers will be getting what they ordered and paid for, they just wont
be able to easily shop for different variants of a particular piece unless they
shop at stores that specify that they actually sorting out different variants

I say this only because shoppers stating that they want what they pay for is

You can go to our store and look at our store terms, this will give you a good
idea of what to charge. You can copy and paste anything you want from our store
terms, we wont mind.
Another thing you should try is putting all your parts on sale at around 10 to
15% off. I noticed that all your prices are at the 6 month sales average which
is a good place to start but for a small starting store I think putting your
parts up at 10 to 15% off may really help. I know the closer we get to putting
our parts at 15% off the 6 month sales average the more sales our store receives.

Well of course close all stores except ours!
But seriously. I know where your coming from because it really comes down to
where do you draw the line? Everyone will have a differing opinion on where that
line should be and once the line is drawn what happens when you, me, or anyone
else crosses that threshold by just one negative? No one would would want their
store to be closed down because of just that one feedback that causes us to cross
that threshold.
But when a store has at least a few thousand feedbacks for selling and 10% or
more of them are negative / neutrals, maybe an actual percentage should not automatically
close down their store but I think it would be good for BrickLink to examine
stores with a high percentage of bad feedbacks and first maybe give them a warning
to clean up their act and if after a certain period of time they dont change
then BL should consider further consequences.

| We have had our share of neutral and negative feedbacks - at total of 26 - but
how are some stores still allowed to do business? There is a store in Germany
with around 8850 total feedbacks but out of his 7151 feedbacks for selling he
has 393 negative / neutrals. This past year alone he has 503 positive but 48
negative / neutrals - that is almost 10%!! That means 1 out of every 10 customers
are getting bad service and how many more are getting bad service but are afraid
to leave a negative feedback out of fear of getting retaliatory feedback.
Sometimes when I stumble across a store with a really bad reputation, like the
one above, I am surprised that they are still allowed to keep their selling status.
Just a rant.

Maybe this is the solution:
You told the seller to add a VAT invoice.
Maybe it would have been better to ask for "The" VAT invoice.
So just ask your seller to download the Invoice on top of his order page. (see
example)
Let him send it electronicaly to you, you can send it to the customs.
I hope this helps.
Please let us know if this is good

The Order Summery line also has an "IOSS No" link for orders that require
the IOSS number to be electronically transmitted when purchasing postage online.
Here is what the popup window shows when you click on the link:
The IOSS link shows the following info in a popup window when opened:
BrickLink IOSS number: XXXXXXXXXXX
You must share BrickLink’s IOSS number directly with your shipping carrier so
that the shipping carrier can submit this information electronically. This helps
to ensure that the buyer will not be charged VAT twice.
You MUST NOT use BrickLink’s IOSS number for any other purpose and NEVER write
this number on your packages.
Note: Always double-check this process with your local shipping carrier as the
process may vary. Some shipping carriers cannot accept or submit IOSS numbers
in post office locations, so you may only be able to do this online. If your
carrier cannot transmit our IOSS number electronically, the buyer could be charged
VAT a second time.
Visit the EU marketplace help page to learn more about the IOSS number.
As far as I know the IOSS link will always show up on orders that require the
IOSS number.

| I voted yes, not because this is the best solution, but there needs to be some
solution. If buyers don't trust the marketplace, eventually sales decline.
BrickLink needs a high enough bar to limit scammers, but low enough to allow
legitimate new sellers. The current bar is way too low.
Maybe, a staggered sales limit for new stores (Ebay model); month 1 limit sales
to $250, then month 2 to $350, etc. BrickLink has the data to optimize the sales
limits.
If you can delay the amount of time scammers need to wait for their payday, you
limit the number of scammers. Additionally, any that are using fraudulent Bank
Accounts/PayPal/Credit Cards will probably be discovered within 3 months. Basically,
let the Trust and Security Departments of large financial institutions weed out
the bad actors.
|
I agree something must be done, but an issue with this is that a scammer sets
up multiple accounts and let's them sit for a few months.
|
You are absolutely correct. This (and thank you) opens up the topic of small/medium/large
sellers. Most of the problems seen here are not from small sellers selling cheap
parts, it's always someone trying to make the maximum money as fast as possible,
before the game is up. The current problem (L and N) may well involve many thousands
of dollars.
Where we end up is, a small seller needs very little vetting and identity checking.
A large seller, or anyone stacking their store up with lots of high ticket desirable
sets, needs a laser focused identity check and proof of inventory. Any seller
account moving up the ladder, regardless of the day they apply, or several months
down the road, should cause that check to be done. This is as more about allowing
the limited resources on the admin team to be applied to where the problems occur.
Nita Rae
|
I think your proposal are excellent. Probably over 95% of new legitimate beginning
sellers would not sell more then $250.00 worth of Lego in their first couple
of months. In fact, most new stores would probably be thrilled to make that much
and more importantly, most scammers wouldn't even want to waste their time
for $250.00.
I also think your ideas on vetting sellers who want to sell high ticket items
would also be important and would dissuade most scammers from even wanting to
go thru the vetting process.
Great ideas!! I hope BrickLink will seriously consider them.

Same here. Out of all the orders we have received only a couple went bad and
we just went ahead and approved the refund for missing packages.
Because our postage software uses PayPal's addresses we use those but we
always do a quick compare to make sure they are the same but not not because
about worrying about scams, we just want to make sue the order is shipped to
where the customer wants it to be shipped to. When the addresses differ we just
contact the buyer and ask which address they want the order shipped to. This
has happened just a handful of times and when we shipped it to a different address

(all in about 100ish torsos) mixed in were some and which
don't exist in those colours as is. I cant be 100% certain but they don't
seem to have had a print wiped off. i remember a while ago there was a big thing
about some parts in unofficial things like this couldn't be sold as they
were stolen from lego but to the best of my knowledge these are from long before
that was a thing so i wasn't sure if I was allowed to list them on bricklink
or not as many of those listings were taken down and similar
19x Flat Silver torsos
15x Olive Green torsos
|
I dont see why not considering they are for sale, and have been sold here, so
BL definitely allows them to be sold in those colors.

For those of you who are already on-board with this, I'll link a great article
I found that excellently argues this point and cites its sources:
https://womensbrickinitiative.com/diverse-lego-minifigure-petition/
For those fans who haven't put much thought into this or are opposed to diversifying
the LEGO minifigure population, I'd urge you to read the above article. It's
well-written and researched, and says everything that needs to be said on this
topic.
In short, I don't at all agree with LEGO's staunch position on "yellow"
washing its minifigs that don't represent a certain IP. Their argument (as
quoted in the above article) that yellow is "race-neutral" is insulting,
as only light-skinned people can truly relate to that tone of color.
I'm personally interested in buying my first modular sets, but I also know
that I will have to spend money to swap out the heads, arms and some torsos to
make it representative of the world I live in, and the people I know.
I strongly believe that LEGO needs to do better, swallow its pride and discontinue
yellow minifigures. They're boring and lazy anyway.
I love LEGO and will be a lifelong fan. I just wish the brand matured with the
times quicker, and embraced cultural diversity.

Actually, that brings up a question that has plagued me for years and that is...
Why do we say when we need to go the the bathroom to take care of business, why
do we say, "I have to take a pee" or if you plan on sitting for a while,
"I have to take a poo"??
Than makes no sense at all! I have never seen anybody who said that they had
to take a poo go the the bathroom and leave there with a bag full or even
a hand full of poo - same with pee - you dont see people leaving bathrooms with
a glasses of pee. So why do we say that we have "take" a pee or "take"
a poo? Shouldn't we it be more like "I have to go LEAVE a pee or LEAVE
a poo"?
One of life's little ponderables.
Side note: I used the words pee and poo instead of their more common descriptives
so as to be polite and not offend any with a more delicate constitution.

| Dear BrickLink members,
Welcome back and thank you for your patience. We were down for longer than anyone
would have wanted. Now that we’re back up and running, we can share with you
what’s happened.
As many of you will know, we received a threat and ransom demand on Friday, November
3rd. We’d been aware of and actively managing some limited suspicious activity
since mid-October, with unauthorized sellers offering products at huge discounts
and fraudulently accepting payment from buyers.
As soon as we were aware of the potential escalation on November 3rd, we put
the site into maintenance mode out of an abundance of caution. We did this to
protect our members and keep complete control of the platform while investigating.
We found that a relatively small number of BrickLink accounts may have been accessed.
It is important to note that there is no evidence so far that our systems were
compromised.
At this stage we believe this was a ‘credential stuffing’ incident, where
someone obtains lists of usernames and passwords from a third party, often illegally,
and opportunistically tries to use them on a website.
Actions we’ve taken
Although we know that the BrickLink site was not breached, we've further
strengthened our security. We take the safety of BrickLink and our members very
seriously and will continue to step up security across the platform.
We’ve informed people where we have reason to believe that their accounts or
stores may have been impacted, and reminded members of ways they can make their
accounts safer and more secure by practicing good data security. Keep your systems
up-to-date with the latest patches, Use security software and create strong,
unique passwords for each website you use.
Again, we’re sorry for the interruption and inconvenience this has caused you.
If you have any questions or concerns, have a look at the FAQ for more details,
or reach out to customersupport@bricklink.com.

| A few months back we received a message from a seller on BrickLink with an offer.
I can't remember the wording, but the main offer was to help us build up
our inventory by selling to us in bulk. They have a store here and if I remember
correctly they have just a couple hundred feedbacks. I put off calling them at
the time because we were very busy doing other things.
About a month back I was finally going to call them but I could not find the
message they sent us. I looked thru all of our messages but nada. I would really
like to get in touch with them to find out what they are offering and I would
imagine that we were not the only store that received their message so I was
hoping that someone else may have received a similar message and could possibly
send us a private message with at least their store name so we can contact them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I was thinking the same thing but then I thought a little bet more about what
constitutes a sale, or at least what it is supposed to. A sale is supposed to
be when you lower your prices a certain amount lower then what you normally charge.
If you are constantly running a sale then your sale prices are just your normal
everyday prices.
We to have never posted in the "Sales" forum but we usually always have
all of our parts priced at any given time at 9% to 15% off the 6 month sales
average so we could potentially advertise a sale every week in the forums but
where is the "sale" in that? We price our inventory below the 6 month
sales average to increase our overall selling of parts so advertising a "Sale"
would just be false advertising.
I think once a month is a good idea.

Going along with that... When you think of a set, you dont think of the minifigs
as much as you think about the model you will build with the set. I would imagine
BrickLink admins look at sets that way also. Minifigs do not make the set a set,
the model does and it makes sense that BrickLink would delete listings of sets
that only contain figs as they are no longer sets or even incomplete sets,
they are now just minifigures. I think it would be like trying to list a set
under minifigure with the note that "This is for the model - no minifigures
included".

The differences between light bluish gray and light gray are subtle and unless

especially sense light bluish gray can fade to the point of making you think

each for cheap little padded mailers in bulk, I used to not factor in packing
materials when I started out, establishing my store (I used to ship worldwide
too at no minimum, huge headache, I stopped after realizing how stiff PayPal's
terms are about lost/missing orders). Now that I am a little more established,
with plenty of positive reviews and that I sell large sealed sets to minifigs,
I choose not to loose on shipping ever anymore.
|
then just increase the shipping a little but there's a difference between
loosing on shipping on every order compared to loosing on some and making on
other which evens out and ends up with you not loosing on shipping still if you
take a step back and look at the bigger picture. but if you still think your
loosing on shipping the raise the prices and it will work out

I'm not loosing on shipping, that's the point. You just said you do loose
on some orders, and make it up on others. I'm saying across the board at
my store, I don't loose money on shipping... But I'm Loco. (pun based
on my username, don't take it personally)
|
with this method across the board at your store you also wouldn't loose money
but you could do a split. with having instant checkout for most items but
then for larger items you could mark them as manual only and then charge exact
shipping so its a win win
|
This way really works well. We have most all of our sets set up manual invoicing
only and all of our parts set up for instant checkout and we have had no problems.
I would definitely recommend setting it up that way.
We are located in California so our shipping cost increases according to how
far away the shipping address is located, so places like New York on the east
coast cost the most. To make it easy and to make sure we dont lose any money
on shipping, we have set up our shipping levels to reflect the prices for shipping
to New York. As an example, we charge $4.53 for orders up to 4 ounces (including
the envelope) which will cover the cost to ship as far away as the east coast.
Orders shipping to Arizona will cost a little less but we still charge the same.
Because we use instant checkout, our potential customers will know what the shipping
cost will be before they place their order so everybody is happy. When we put
sets up for sale we usually write in the Description how much the shipping will
be for shipping to anywhere in the contiguous US basing our prices on the east
coast and fortunately using UPS and USPS Ground Advantage, the prices are pretty
decent for our customers.

In general I'm shipping NO tracking, it's on buyers risk!
NO Refund of costs if goods are lost on mailing route.

I like the line, "If you are not satisfied, contact your supplier who delivers
the goods to you". I like the way he refers to the postal service as "your
supplier" yet he is the one who pays the postal service and drops the package
off there. I hate stores that try to pass the buck like that so that they can
think that they dont need to take ANY responsibility for a lost or damaged order.

The way I did, back when I used to offer free shipping, worked like this …
Each lot (for a set) that I wanted to ship for free, I overrode both the dimensions
and the weight, to make them both as small as possible. I think something like
0.001 gms and 0.1 mm on each side. Then I set up a shipping method that only
processed something below 1-oz (or smaller if possible) and a physical dimension
of 1-inch x 1-inch x 1-inch. That tended to route the set orders into that very
small cubic space, and the parts elsewhere. Try setting this up on a test lot,
that is reserved to your test account, then see what happens when you put it
into a shopping cart. Let unchanged, your other lots will not trigger the shipping
method, if it’s set up correctly.
Good luck, Nita Rae
|
Thank you, that sounds like it should work. In fact, that should work for selling
sets with a fixed shipping value also. Again, thanks.

That would be one way but I would really like to be able to have sets worth less

I would not want the shipping method apply to any parts or minifigures.

Thank you for replying. I was thinking of buying another part for them but how
do I make any money off of their original order of around $5.00? Plus the other
seller might even send the wrong part. Might as well just refund their entire
order and send it to them for free. As some of the stickered parts are not perfect
either that they ordered. Selling on here is certainly not easy.
|
Making money when a mistake is made should not really be a concern especially
when it is a small amount. You made a mistake with your inventory and screwed
up - not a big deal, we all have screwed up but how we handle those occasional
screw ups shows what kind of persons we are and we view our customer service.
A good example is myself. Just a few days ago a customer placed an order and
paid but then asked if he could go ahead and place another order and have both
of them combined. I said sure and told him that he should go ahead and place
the 2nd order and I would combine them and just refund him the shipping. Well
like an idiot (which I quite often am, at least I am often told) I shipped the
first order before he place the 2nd one.
The second order total of parts was $3.68 but the shipping was a little over
$4.00. I already told the customer I would refund the shipping so I had to ship
the second order at a loss. It was a bummer but hey, at least my customer would
receive his orders and be happy and that is more important to me then making
money.
I would suggest taking the loss and make your customer a happy customer. After
all, the mistake, even though small, was made by you and not your customer.

They dont even need to be older plates to be brittle. We have had brittle reddish
brown plates from sets as new as this year break easily right out of the box.
Reddish brown pieces can be sooooo brittle. Recently a customer ordered some
of these:
When checking them for brittleness I found that they would break.
We have over 250 of them that we wont even try to sell now because everyone that
I tried to break by just slightly bending with very little pressure snapped easily
into shards. I am afraid to try other pieces not wanting to see them also snap

I would just contact BrickLink and let them know what happened and ask how to
remedy the situation. If they respond and things get fixed, great. But if they

I think insurance options in the US may be better then in other countries but
our shipping costs for overseas have become outrageous. Thru Our shipping service
we pay $1.55 per $100.00 of insurance for overseas orders (75 cents for every
$100.00 for domestic orders) so an overseas order would cost $15.55 for $1000.00

We have quote request set up but we also have as a shipping option named as "Quote
Request" that we set up before BrickLink offered it as a feature. We get
about half the customers that want to get a quote use the BrickLink Quote Request
to get a quote and the other half choose the shipping method labeled "Quote
Request". When people choose the latter one and dont follow thru with the
order then we just cancel the order after a while.
So if a store does not want to hassle trying to figure out how to set up Quote
Requests then they can just set up a shipping option labeled Quote Request and
just make sure it will apply to all possible orders so it is always an option
that shows up for customes to choose during the checkout process.

A single shop items page (with a setting of 50 lots/page) is already approx 90
requests to BrickLink.
This could be about only 50 pages (in various shops, during 24 hrs) to reach
the 5000 requests.
But it's more than this, because your Browser caches pages, pictures, CSS
and code...
So it can be any number, it's unpredictable.
And it's a bit unfair because it'll hit more often "newbies"
because they don't have many elements in cache.
In short, one should better avoid "browsing randomly": use wanted-list,
searches, etc.
|
So does this mean that if you have a lot of images of parts and such in your
browser cache from searching in the past that there is less likely a chance of
reaching the BL allowed limit of browsing?

A few years back a customer placed a good size order of parts and such, filled
it and then dropped it off at the post office and everything seemed fine. Several
days later the customer contacts us that they had not received it yet and said
that the tracking number only shows that postage was purchased but that was it.
Long story short, come to figure out that I never attached the postage label
to the order. I went to the post office and they said that there was really nothing
they could do because there was no address on the package so it was sent to that
dark place where packages go to die. We always put a secondary label on every
order that we ship that has our store name and the order number on it but back
then, no address. Sense then we have included our address on the label for those
"just in case" moments.

Buyers can plainly see that the original bag is not included and they have been

Basically what had happened is that my inventory was doubled.
This morning around 4800 lots were created (uploaded) with 77000 items. They
all have the date stamp 'Added Mar. 22, 2023'
How do I get rid of these lots? (And how could it happen, of course).
I have a bsx backup file from my inventory (from Bricksync) but have no idea
how to make this the new inventory for Bricklink.
What's the best way to go from here?

I would think that the easiest way would be to download your inventory into BrickStore,
sort by date, highlight all the offending listings by left clicking on the top
listing dated 3-23-2023 then scroll down to the last listing with that date and
left click that listing while holding down the shift key and delete (hit save).
The next part is the scary part - delete all your inventory on BrickLink .
Then use BrickStore to upload your inventory. The plus side is that because
it is considered all new inventory, BrickLink will send out a whole bunch of
email notifications of new parts being added to your inventory.

Gees, it looks like they ran over the pieces with their truck and then stomped
on them until they stopped moving just to make sure they dead.
I would just write the store a nice message and send them a picture. There is
a good chance they will take care of you after seeing the picture. I know if
we received a message about damaged parts like that then we would offer to resend
all new parts (if we had them) or give a full refund. I am a firm believer that
it the sellers responsibility to make sure that orders arrive at the customers
address in good condition. If it is lost or damaged then I feel it is the store's
responsibility to make it right with the customer. As Nubs said, insurance is
for the seller not the buyer. The buyer pays for it, submits the claim and receives
the compensation.

want to break the figures down but I also dont want to sell them and have the
customers complain that we sent them the wrong heads. What should I do in this
case??
Thanks in advance.

in "new" condition? I keep seeing stores that have descriptions of their
"new" figures as "mint" or "great condition" and then
95% of their used figures have damage that has to be noted like:
"FIGURE IS GREAT CONDITION!, except the torso is cracked and there are scratches."
I've sold thousands of used minifigures and probably 10% of them have had
damage that's required adding a description. Are these the unluckiest resellers
in the world or perhaps there's something fishy about all of their "new"
figs...

What about that
Yesterday i came across the following item description listed as new 'from
collector'. The store has 1000+ feedbacks history with more than 99% positive
Some sellers cant imagine that VGC or 'as new' does not mean new

Gees, I feel like a choir boy then considering how much I can overshare about
some used pieces. https://store.bricklink.com/Yellow.Brick?p=Yellow.Brick&itemID=337018738#/shop
And believe it or not, someone bought one of my classic red ones that was super
chewed on over the one that was mint. I guess they needed a damaged one for
some perverse macabre reason.
I always err on the side of caution. It's only new if I personally take
it out of the box and part it out.

I especially liked the comment for the listed fig, "Was nibbled on by dog
about 30 years ago so there are three tooth marks" - very honest and up front.
That made me want to buy it just so I could see 30 year old dog teeth marks .
By the way, how do you know the dog chewed it 30 years ago??

| If he is a drop shipper, like many have already guessed at (I think so to), then
that would probably mean he will not try to scam any of the stores he is buying
from because he will want to keep his feedback clean so that he can continue
buying here and not burn any bridges along the way. His business only continues
if he keeps the sellers he buys from happy. We have never had any problems with
drop shippers.

where customers who have purchased sets that required us to send an invoice,
lived in states that collect taxes. I assumed BL had collected the taxes from
PayPal like when customers pay using onsite payments (which is 99.9% of our orders).
And like I mentioned, we have been doing it this way for years - that is why
I wondered if maybe BL has changed something.
|
BL can't collect the taxes unless the buyer pays on-site - if the buyer pays
directly through PayPal BL never "sees" that transaction.
It could just be that this situation just hasn't happened to you over the
past few years (as you say, most buyers pay on-site; and if a buyer lives in
a state that doesn't collect sales tax, it doesn't matter).
|
I agree, I think that is exactly what happened. Well, at least now I have that
option removed from the invoice I send out.

| A big thank you to everybody that helped me figure out what I was doing wrong.
My inserted link to make a payment to my PayPal address was the problem. My customer
choose that option instead of the BrickLink Pay button on the invoice that we
sent them. I have removed the link so that it will no longer be included on future
manually sent invoices.
Again, thank you for all the replies and help. It was something I should have
already known but hey, I never said I was smarrt.

| | Chances are your buyers have been clicking the pay button, rather than the link.
BL also puts a warning on the invoice if the buyer's location requires sales
tax....
|
That makes a lot of sense. If I received an invoice that had a link from the
buyer or a pay button from BrickLink, I would always choose the button so that
is probably what has been going on.

| | For this kind of order you the payment button appears for the users, but if you
put a link in your comments and they used it then it needs to be refunded and
paid using the button on Bricklink.
I had the link in the past but since a few years ago I removed it and just point
the users to use the Pay button that appears inside the order view (linking to
it) and on their orders placed page.
|
So your saying that if I send a manual invoice to a customer that there is a
"Pay" button on there? Below is a line that we included on all invoices
we send manually for the link top make the payment(the X's are replacing
my PayPal email):
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?&cmd=_xclick&business=XXXX@XXX.com¤cy_code=USD&amount=41.64&item_name=Order21450872
So I take it that all this time (at least sense BL implemented onsite payments)
I should not have had that line in there because there was always a "Pay"
button on the invoice? Which makes sense considering I always see the pay button
when I place an order on BL and get sent an invoice.
