Agree. At least something as important as orders should not be purged as fast
as now. Should be kept for a minimum of 12 months. A modern dual-core based linux
server can handle a gazillion of database queries with no problems, and as for
storage, it's really dirt cheap now.

  My suggestion: stop purging data.
It's the 21st century, mass storage is cheap.
There's no at all reason to purge data ever.

This one is very easy for a seasoned scammer to get around, and it also puts
many sellers from "obscure" countries (like mine) in disadvantage because it's
not easy for them to get a CC.
But as an option, yes.

BrickLink should setup a system where a seller would need to have a credit card
to sell on BL, and BL charges the seller a small amount (say $5) to setup the
store, and activate it, and verify the seller's information that is on BL against
the credit card.

The $5 would offset any costs associated with checking names/addresses. Once
BL has a card # and a charge on it, they can verify the name and address to the
card, and they know that they are dealing with a real person, at a real address.
Or, maybe make this an option, and have a store icon that shows that the seller
is verified.

Or, perhaps make this a requirement only if the seller wishes to sell high value
products, or lots of items valued at a high value.

I would gladly do this for my store, to show that I'm legit and serious about
selling.

Resistance is futile.

Excellent suggestion, and it's implementation should be accompanied by even more
measures, like proof of stock for these new sellers with many expensive sets
(or many sets in general), verification of the sellers details, etc. Maybe this
should be enforced for new sellers with an expensive stock, and not the hobbyist
sellers with parts and an occasional set listed. In any case it shouldn't be
so easy to scam people within BL. And speaking about BL, with so many transactions
taking place every day i think that they can afford these added measures. They
will benefit both BL and it's users.

I have some ideas on how to fix this problem.

Put a limit on the number of transactions allowed for new sellers.

One per day or 3 per week until established as a seller.

That would limit the damage done by a new seller.

I feel for the buyers that are not familiar with feedback system to spot these
styles of fraud.
