* Add 1 Part 6629 Red Technic, Liftarm 1 x 9 Bent (6 - 4) Thick (Counterpart)
* Add 1 Part 6629 Red Technic, Liftarm 1 x 9 Bent (6 - 4) Thick (Counterpart)
Comments from Submitter:
Both red 6629 beams have stickers applied according to the instructions (each has a aprox. 1x2 sticker applied - the stickers from the second row of the bricklink image of the sticker sheet).

Add the word "prototpye" to your listing notes and describe what they are. At
this point, the site does not have a way of tagging listings with such information.

| Randy,
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly! (And nice avatar, Blacktron II forever!)
That makes sense, and my only counter-point to that is that Brickset uses info
from here to list minifigures, and being a collector, it's nice to be able
to have each of the alternate figs listed in a collection. Additionally, it gives
sellers more options to sell unique minifigs as well.
Just giving my two cents.
Thanks!
-Kevin
P.S. I'm curious how those decisions are made, is there one person that decides
on all these things, or do a bunch of admins just come to an agreement? Just
wondering
|
We've discovered that the only two to have multiple versions of the minifig
were the SDCC exclusives, and there were no instructions for those - only box
art that wasn't always consistent.
Considering the fact that people aren't going to be parting out those sets
for the minifigures, there doesn't seem to be a lot of harm in leaving those
two as exceptions.
But for all other sets, we've decided one entry is enough. To allow more
entries like this would create a precedent with huge implications. So your pending
entries will be rejected in a few days.
FYI, decisions like this are often made in the back rooms of BL where the admins
have their own Forum.

This part is in the invetory of this set already in quantity of 18 and it is
a correct number but it is in there in light gray color not in black as you want
to add it (in wrong quantity btw). So what is your source of addition of black
one 32073 to this set. On step one it is shown in light gray not black.

The list of available colors is generated automatically based on the set inventories.
So unless the item has been cataloged in that color as part of a set, it can't
appear in the list.
You can still list the item for sale the same way you would any other color.

To me, yes. I have never been able visually to distinguish the difference between
the two without reinforcement - medium think - thin. I just don't see it,
try as I might.

You can always check mold number molded on the part's underside, magnifying
glass maybe needed.

Or a light piped thingamajig if you happen to be an entomologist (which is kind

Not necessarily. If the alternate part was caught late and added to the catalog
late, then this set may have originally come with only 2453b. I will try to find
some evidence for this, but if I can't, this request will be rejected.

Were the sets you parted out brand new? The reason I ask is because the 44567a

If the sets you parted out were brand new, then we will need to add the parts

Hello Pam it is very easy to do - just go to your inventory page and underneath
the title " items in my inventory " you will in white letters see " category
" click the box in front of this - this will put a tick in the boxes of all
of your inventory then simply scroll down to the " Update My Inventory: " section
near the bottom of the page click the box " delete my items " scroll down to
the bottom and click on " submit changes " and thats it done - be warned though
once you do this there is no recovering this information - it is final and your
inventory is gone forever - I hope this helps kind regards Mark.

I very much agree. This abiguity should be part of both the items for sale (sellers
not wanting to bother to distinguish) and the wanted lists (buyers not caring
whether they get the on or the other variety).
Taken a bit further, for the wanted lists this might take the form of 'any
shade of green', 'a brick of width 2' or 'the a or c variety
of 4085'.
Wishful thinking, but if this #1 upgrade is implemented in Bricklink XL, I am
all for it, despite whatever changes they might make to the interface.

To me, yes. I have never been able visually to distinguish the difference between

try as I might.

You can always check mold number molded on the part's underside, magnifying

Thank you for the explanations. I agree that some times, or for some people it
can be useful, but i believe that most of the time it isn't. As suggested,
I think that there should be an option to do a general search for wantlists or
in store, choose if you care about variants or not.
|
The database isn’t made for this, and the only way now is to have “undetermined”
variants, which just adds another variant, fouls the price guide, and makes half
the buyers unhappy.
What would be nice would be “virtual undetermined parts,” and inventories and
sellers should still have to use the determined variants but searches and WLs
wouldn’t.
(There might still be problems though. Say, a buyer parts out a set into a WL,
they are asked if they allow other variants, they accept because they think it
will be cheaper and easier to fullfil, but the set really can only be built with

But that means modifying the database and the site too deeply, at least for now….

From what I understand from reading about these sets, these aren't going
to be officially recognized LEGO sets. If that's the case, I don't feel
like they belong in the catalog. Someone will post the inventory somewhere (from
what I understand, it happens with most popular MOCs), so there is nothing stopping
a buyer from creating their own wanted list and purchase the parts without having
the set in the catalog.

They're still more official than BrickArms, which is also in the catalog...
Plus, the whole "exciting" part about the whole project, according to BL itself,
is the fact that it's an official cooperation with the LEGO Group.
So yes, I definitely see the irony.

It would be nice if the catalog had the sophistication to have a metapart that
would collect listings of all three in a search if someone really didn't
care which.
|
I guess it does in a way as you can search for "arch 1 x 6 x 2 -curved -pattern"
if you don't care which one you get, but it only really works for searches
and not wants lists. So yes having a metadata tag to link them would be good.
Same for a number of other parts with minor variations that may be inconsequential
for some people but important for others.

I get the raised arch difference, that is notable, but this thin/thick thing?
|
To me, yes. I have never been able visually to distinguish the difference between
the two without reinforcement - medium think - thin. I just don't see it,
try as I might.
|
You can always check mold number molded on the part's underside, magnifying
glass maybe needed.
|
Or a light piped thingamajig if you happen to be an entomologist (which is kind
of cheating).
I thought about buying an otoscope the other day so I could see the part number
on the giraffe guy's hat. Then I thought that might be a sign of obsession.

but I finally was able to read this mold number

It would be nice if the catalog had the sophistication to have a metapart that
would collect listings of all three in a search if someone really didn't
care which.

There is a reason for the multiple entries, and that reason is because LEGO made
three variations of that part with different purposes in mind for each one. Some
of the builds that use one variation of the arch cannot be built using either
of the other two.

Three variants. Don’t exaggerate, you’re showing them
* | | 3307 Arch 1 x 6 x 2 - Thick Top with Reinforced Underside Parts: Arch |
* | | 15254 Arch 1 x 6 x 2 - Medium Thick Top without Reinforced Underside Parts: Arch |
* | | 12939 Arch 1 x 6 x 2 - Thin Top without Reinforced Underside Parts: Arch |
| | I get the raised arch difference, that is notable, but this thin/thick thing?
|
The thin / thick thing is described in the notes, and mm dimensions given. Personally,
the difference between the old and new style (with/without the reinforcement)
is enough, but I I can understand why the different variants are there.
|
Yes, the variants are important:
1. You can fit some parts under the thin and medium thick parts that you can’t
fit under the thick one. E.g.
2. Collectors find it very important to get the right variant.
The odd part here would be the thin one: it was short lived (a year). Too fragile?
Too thin (it leaves a noticeable gap)?
Anyway, it’s here and came before the medium thick and was already in the catalogue
(2013) when the medium thick version was spotted / included in the catalogue
(2016).
There was no reason to merge thin and medium thick then and there’s no much reason
to do it now as we would still need to keep the old one.
Wouldn’t it be as confusing to have a “thick” version and “more or less thin”
one?

| Please make changes to the following inventory:
* Add 4 Part 445a Blue Door 1 x 3 x 4 Left with Thin Handle (Alternate)
* Add 4 Part 446a Blue Door 1 x 3 x 4 Right with Thin Handle (Alternate)
Comments from Submitter:
I only want to add 445a and 446a as alternative part. If you look at the instructions and the box it could very well be the door with thin handle. Since you don't have 445a and 446a as a part in any inventory list, I cannot find the item id. This would affect all sets with doors 3188, 3189, 3195, 3194, 445 and 446, to have the door with thin handle as alternative. Regards, Johan

* Add 2 Part 3040 White Slope 45 2 x 1 (Alternate) (match ID 3)
Comments from Submitter:
As per my recent submission re: 3943b, I also note that in my two sets the 45 2x1 slopes have bottom tubes (3040). Again, with the last known use of 3040a being 1981, and the earliest use of 3040 being 1977, it makes sense that later production runs of 6842 which had low attachment modified plates and axle hole cones would also have 3040.

* Add 1 Part 3943b Black Cone 4 x 4 x 2 with Axle Hole (Alternate) (match ID 2)
Comments from Submitter:
I had a pair of these since childhood and recently disassembled and bagged them for storage. Both had the axle hole version of the large cones, which is corroborated in terms of timeline by the already confirmed existence in 6890 and 6929. Both sets also contained 3839b, which implies they were from a later production run.

| Why is this part so expensive in DBG??
|
The long answer:
It only came out in 2005, and for all intents and purposes, the only fully-distributed
set it was in was 7251 Darth Vader Transformation. Until Lego released an updated
version of that in 2017, it was a fairly high-demand set because that scene in
Revenge of the Sith is iconic. But sets released in 2004-2005 typically had short
shelf lives because of Lego's color transformation and changes in the company.
So higher demand + lower supply = a fairly expensive set -- it still averages
$28 for 53 pieces, or $0.53/piece, and I remember seeing it go for $35-$40
a few years back. Since there are very few exclusive parts in the set besides
the figs, the few exclusive/rare parts get priced up extremely high, likely because
of people trying to Bricklink the set.

Thanks.I am new at this. I have now instead tried to add the minifig with brown
hair as a new item (belvmale21). I hope I will have better luck with that. If
there is one with black hair on ebay, you must be right that both versions
exist.
