Hi Jennifer,
Like I said, there is no box to search for "dimensions unavailable". The box
that you've selected only searches for items that you've already set
to 'manual' meaning they can't be included in an instant checkout
order. What we need is a box that selects items that have no dimensions listed
in the Bricklink catalogue so that we as sellers can either enter the dimensions
ourselves or set the item to 'manual'.
Ron
|
It is not correct to say that the search only returns results for items you've
already set to manual. That search returns results for the following:
All items set to manual;
All items with no weight at all;
All items with weight but no dimensions and set volume bound (such as instructions).
The images below are from that exact search in my inventory and all of those
items will not be in an IC order
|
Correct. That search though will not find items that are set as weight bound
(by default)that have no catalogue dimensions. This is the tool we need to
find items too large to be sent as large letter.

Yes. Exactly. Finally someone understands what I'm asking. The current
tools available will not find items in our inventory that are set as weight bound
(by default in the catalogue) that have no dimensions which is what is causing
the problems with IC.

As mentioned previously using the "instant checkout unavailable" tool will only
find items that are volume bound without dimensions or weight bound without
weight. It will not find items that are set as weight bound without dimensions
that are too big to be sent as a large letter, which is what is causing all the
problems. For instance if a BURP was set as weight bound and had no catalogue
dimensions Instant checkout will allow it to be sent as a 20mm thick letter.
Clearly it will never fit unless I run over the piece with a truck several dozen
times first. Unfortunately there are many catalogue items set as weight bound
by default that clearly shouldn't be - like train track.

The incongruity exists because BL has not yet decided to implement the newer
shipping data within the existing catalog structure and database.
Each part has a data field in the catalog for Item Dimensions (listed on each
catalog page as Size.) This is measured approximately in studs / brick height.
The data is supplied by members and is maintained by the Catalog Admin though
the forms on the Add or Change tab.
The newer shipping dimensions data was put in place along with Instant Checkout.
This data is only in mm. The data is not visible except on the My Inventory and
Order Detail pages. The data is maintained by the staff at BrickLink and is submitted
by members on a thread here in the Forum. I believe they originally calculated
many of their measurements from the catalog Item Dimensions data. They have not
maintained consistency in which measurements are X, Y, or Z, or how precise measurements
must be. However, you can change the data for each part in your own shop from
your Inventory detail page.
Hope that helps,
Jen

Yes I understand that, but there is still no easy solution for finding which
items don't have catalogue dimensions without searching through each lot,
which is what I am asking for. We can search items with no catalogue weight,
but can not search for items with no catalogue dimensions.

No, that doesn't help at all. Why can't sellers have an option to search
their inventory for items without dimensions so we can add our own? Unfortunately
there are a lot of items in the catalogue without dimensions that have been set
by default as weight bound rather than volume bound that can't (In Australia
at least) be sent as a large letter as they will exceed the 20mm maximum thickness.
This wasn't as big an issue in the past, but now with instant checkout it
is. Why should it matter if an item does or doesn't fit within the normal
stud/brick height system? Surely the main purpose of dimensions is for calculating
postage costs?
It's not that difficult to pull out a ruler or tape measure and measure
something. I'm happy to do it myself to my own inventory, just give me the
option to search for items that don't have catalogue dimensions like we can
for items without weight.
|
First, I didn't make this system and I would certainly NEVER defend it.
I was just trying to explain some the details.
Second, you can absolutely look up parts missing shipping dimensions in your
inventory. I don't use Instant Checkout, but I believe there is a checkbox
for Instant Checkout Unavailable on your My Inventory page.
Your original post seemed to be asking about item dimensions which are not the
same thing.
|
No. What I am asking for is to be able to search for items in the catalogue that
do not have dimensions. This cannot be done currently. You can only search
for catalogue items without weight. Yes you can do a search for items that won't
work with instant checkout, but as previously mentioned this won't pickup
items that are listed as weight bound, have a catalogue weight but no dimensions
and are too big to be sent as a large letter.

One thing that has not come up here … Is there a 1:1 relationship between which
catalog entry (for parts) have brick stud dimensions and which IC entries have
hidden mm dimensions ? IOW, are the two traveling in sync with one another ?
|
No
|
I just went and did a Parts.XML download from the catalog. In it I see X/Y/Z
dimensions in studs (just like what's on the Catalog page). Can I reliably
infer that parts in that download missing dimensions are also missing in the
IC database, are that they even match (mathematically speaking) ?
|
Alas no
|
Then I took one set at random (1356-1) … Both the catalog page and the download
show dimensions in cm. But the fields below a lot entry are in mm. That would
seem to be an easy calculation provided that they are more closely in sync than
the parts may be.
|
If you part the set out using Bricklink's tool for doing so and break the
minifigs into parts as well, you will see for that particular set that the minifigs
will be weight bound as well as all the torso assemblies and all the minifig
heads, all the other parts have IC dimensions. The easiest way still to check
inventory for missing dimensions is still the inventory setting for IC not available.
The easiest method to check for missing details when uploading is also unfortunately
to use the part-out tool in Bricklink (I forget to do this as a check from time
to time since I've stopped using Bricklink altogether for uploading inventory),
you cannot get that information from Brickstock either.
Jean

OK, the 'IC not available' option (which I only now realize exists) says
I have 104 lots that are not IC complete. They are, based on a cursory scan,
all in Original Boxes, Catalogs, Instructions, Sticker Sheets, Gear, Trading
Cards, and a couple of custom lots. As far as I can tell, nothing in my Parts,
Sets, or Minifigs is in that list, so the core items of my inventory should pass
muster (assuming the given numbers are legitimate, which for a few sets have
proven to be otherwise).

Hi Randy,
All wires and connectors came assembled except few service packs in 80s like
1135-1, 1135-2, 1135-3, 5065-1,... but the image on the packaging or in the catalogs
for these service packs clearly shows that the connectors came separate however
the image of 5061-1, 5063-1, 702-3 shows the connectors and wires came pre-assembled
(since the purpose of these service packs were different).
AI don't know why all the wires and connectors were listed separate. I changed
many of them coming with sets like 7860,... Maybe these were copied from Peeron?
I think we can list all connectors and their wires assembled unless if we have
a proof that they did not come assembled.

Difficult to know, it was bought on a ebay like website.
As far as this type of box do not have seal , I don't know if the seller
just opened it for picture or if the set was used.

Marek and I took the time to research this with input from multiple people, and
we have come to the conclusion that uncertainty remains about this set.
The set was inventoried from sealed set contents, so it is hard to believe that
the original submitter of the inventory would make such large mistakes. Also,
the only proof that something may be different is the images of the set. These
images are not always correct on promotional items, and these sets were not factory
packaged. Therefore it is easy to come to the conclusion that alternate parts
may have been substituted in some sets or have had different parts from the images
altogether.
For now, the inventory will remain as is and these requests will be rejected.
BrickLink inventories come with a disclaimer that they are not guaranteed to
be accurate, so I think what we currently have is going to come as close to accurate
as it can be for now.
Cheers,
Randy

Add the item as a new part.
After the part is approved, request a change to the set inventory.
The stickered item is a counterpart (matched to the corresponding item without
