Can we please have an option to search our inventory for items without dimensions
in the catalogue? There is already an option to search for items without a catalogue
weight or items that won't work with instant checkout, but it won't help
with finding items that are set as weight bound by default with no dimensions
(Curved train track, some rollercoaster track) which are potentially too big
to send in a letter.

Prohibiting new sets from being inventoried without all the parts having weights
and dimensions would be a big help too, providing users don't add arbitrary
values which seems to be the case for 99% of instruction books at the moment.

Yes, this!!

I just had another IC order in which a part that is too large to fit through
the 2 cm Canada Post mail slot did not have proper dimensions entered and thus
I will likely have to eat at least $9.00 CAD in shipping costs. I get it, it's
as much my fault as it is Bricklink's, maybe more so. But I will admit that
it is frustrating to see all the work that BL is putting into this AFOL meanwhile
the promised inventory engagement tools are still not here. I'll admit, I
know next to nothing about programming, but I can't imagine it would be overly
difficult to implement this suggestion and add a way that we sellers could quickly
identify the items in our inventory that cause these issues.

I'm hoping to see this one implemented quickly. Meanwhile, I guess I'm
searching through my inventory to find other culprits....

No, that doesn't help at all. Why can't sellers have an option to search
their inventory for items without dimensions so we can add our own? Unfortunately
there are a lot of items in the catalogue without dimensions that have been set
by default as weight bound rather than volume bound that can't (In Australia
at least) be sent as a large letter as they will exceed the 20mm maximum thickness.
This wasn't as big an issue in the past, but now with instant checkout it
is. Why should it matter if an item does or doesn't fit within the normal
stud/brick height system? Surely the main purpose of dimensions is for calculating
postage costs?
It's not that difficult to pull out a ruler or tape measure and measure
something. I'm happy to do it myself to my own inventory, just give me the
option to search for items that don't have catalogue dimensions like we can
for items without weight.

First, I didn't make this system and I would certainly NEVER defend it.
I was just trying to explain some the details.

Second, you can absolutely look up parts missing shipping dimensions in your
inventory. I don't use Instant Checkout, but I believe there is a checkbox
for Instant Checkout Unavailable on your My Inventory page.
Your original post seemed to be asking about item dimensions which are not the
same thing.

I was just coming to suggest this very thing. Before I did though I checked,
and no, there is no such box. That would probably be one of those "inventory
management tools" that were promised years ago but have yet to materialise.

That's what I get for not googling it. It was late and I guess my brain wasn't
working.

Was this a normal thing back in the 90's? I didn't realize packaging
came in different colors like this

Thanks

This is one of the incongruities of BrickLink. Dimensions are measured in studs
(system or duplo) in the Catalog, but the override fields below a lot entry are
in millimeters.

For example, a Duplo Brick 2600 shows on the catalog page as "Size: 2 x 6 x 1
in studs", but underneath a listed lot it is …

DimX(mm): 96mm
DimY(mm): 23.6mm
DimZ: (mm) 32mm
(and yes, the semi-colon is used inconsistently there)

I do not wish that we entered by studs for manual overrides, but it's clear
to me that the system is converting from one to another for the benefit of IC.
It's also clear that you can override any part to any set of dimensions if
you wanted to.

Nita Rae

The incongruity exists because BL has not yet decided to implement the newer
shipping data within the existing catalog structure and database.

Each part has a data field in the catalog for Item Dimensions (listed on each
catalog page as Size.) This is measured approximately in studs / brick height.
The data is supplied by members and is maintained by the Catalog Admin though
the forms on the Add or Change tab.

The newer shipping dimensions data was put in place along with Instant Checkout.
This data is only in mm. The data is not visible except on the My Inventory and
Order Detail pages. The data is maintained by the staff at BrickLink and is submitted
by members on a thread here in the Forum. I believe they originally calculated
many of their measurements from the catalog Item Dimensions data. They have not
maintained consistency in which measurements are X, Y, or Z, or how precise measurements
must be. However, you can change the data for each part in your own shop from
your Inventory detail page.

Hope that helps,
Jen

Ahhh, thank you. That clears up a misunderstanding on my part, as I thought one
was being dynamically converted from the other on the fly. Now I see that it
was a one-shot, when they originally loaded the parts IC database.

I can't tell. They were found in used bricks I bought. According to BrickLink:
1984-2018 (timeline of 4624 wheel).

/Jan

Hi

Yes they are factory pre-assembled wheels.

The first ones that came out were glued or pressed together.
Same for the 3464c02 and 4624c01 and 4624c02.
(from 1984-85 till I think begin 90s)
Also same for the first 6015 type with the 6014a.

The rubber is also harder, the assembles are softer in rubber.

Stefaan

Were these only glued in certain regions? This time frame was the heyday of my
LEGO collecting as a child, but I can't ever recall seeing glued wheels (and
I took *everything* apart). I only ever bought sets from the US though.

Do you happen to recall any specific sets that would have had glued wheels? I
have a ton of sealed sets from this era and would like to try and see if any
of them might be glued.

Josh

Hi

They came assembled, that's for sure.
As I wrote: 'glued or pressed'

I had a lot 6015+6014a and I took them apart and there was a residue of glue
on them.
(6015+6014a begin 90s)

For the small wheel and tyre, when it's a harder plastic you can't remove
them.
Start begin half 80s when this new type wheel came out.

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=4624c02&in=S
(some inv. are not correct and the wheel ass. don't pop-up in the list)

Here below I attach the pictures of my set. The box still has the cellophane
(I carefully cut it in one side to be able to open it). The content (3795+3034+4166)
was not packaged in a bag.
