It's useful for a few collectors, who collect special bricks and/or very
old bricks (mainly 2x4 test/prototype runs in most cases) also based on the mould
number and mould position number.
Not for the generic modern brick, though.

Date: No. These numbers are part of a mould that will be/has been used for years.
Location: Yes, unless this mould has been used in multiple locations (happened
for old moulds sold/sent to other manufacturing sites back then)

I don't suppose it tells me what colour the brick is? My word, that would
be so helpful! Telling medium blue from maersk blue or dark pink from magenta
isn't always easy!

Hehe, unfortunately not... The same moulds are used for all colours.

I was wondering what the other set of numbers on a brick were for?

For example, on a lime green 2x4 brick (randomly pulled from a bin I'm working
through) there is the seriel number "3001" which defines what piece it is.

Then, in the other corner is another set of numbers "6-251"

Is this anything useful to us sellers? Is it just something to do with the date/factory/machine
it was manufactured on?

I don't suppose it tells me what colour the brick is? My word, that would
be so helpful! Telling medium blue from maersk blue or dark pink from magenta
isn't always easy!

They are already in the catalogue

Actually: No - at least not properly.

Look in the instructions category of the set, and you will see that the last
image is showing the 'tall' booklet.

See

One booklet ("1/2") for the second model ("8270") is shown. The OP has
two different ones, named "8270-2".

We're at 4 pcs in total now, so at least some correction (and an additional
image) would be required for the catalog.

Just make a note when you list them, stating that they are of the tall type?

Add an original photo of both leaflets (sell them in one lot, since it doesn't
make sense to sell them separately) and note that they are different than the
version in the current database. Plus, that you sell the leaflets for second
model only, of course.

Plus, add a fourth image to this entry:

Probably needs straightening out. For the ones that I submitted to the catalog,
I provided the height of the piece, which would always be 1/3 higher than the
distance that the roller coaster would fall.

consisting of parts 26560 and 26559 has the same elevation than four 34738 ramps.

With the elevation specified in the name of the parts, this would not fit:
2 x 6 1/3 = 12 2/3
4 x 3 1/3 = 13 1/3

The correct elevation is:
2 x 6 = 12
4 x 3 = 12

That does look very similar, the person I bought it from said it might have a
german orgin, but I can't find any specific info.

Howdy.

I'm looking for light bright orange 1x1 round bricks with open stud (3062b).

I've bought several over the last few months, but there's now only one
left on the market place.

I was hoping that I could perhaps get more from sets (here or eBay etc.),
however looking for this part "In Sets" doesn't appear to net any results
- https://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=3062b&in=S

Am I reading that right?

If it didn't appear in sets (and was released in an apparent limited number)
where did it come from?

I presume that once that last brick is sold it will then be deleted from the
catalogue too, so no more will ever be made available

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I’m not sure when they were rounded but I find them difficult to differentiate.

I have a couple unmarked yellow heads from old figs (the ones that had their
hands in their pockets and their feet like Charlie Chaplin) that look more square.
I have new heads (2010-) that look rounder.
In between, I have old classic grin heads that seem rounder than the unmarked
ones but squarer than the newer ones

Anything to look for with the tanks?

There’s at least two versions / two plastics from that time:

But:
— no logo / number under the “collar”
— no ridge inside the bottles / same diameter all the way up.

I only checked on a dozen or so old airtanks but the pip seems to always be
on the right of the bar on top of the bottles (right = the right of the MF, so
near its right shoulder).
On the 5 new ones I have, it’s on the left.
Could be chance though.

I am comfortable identifying the original helmets and torsos.

Trying to re-assemble original versions and want to make sure I am doing it right.

Bricks with the split tubes like this are older, usually from the 60's/70's.
I'm not sure if this part number has an "old" variant, but for the 3001's
and 3002's, these split tubes are classified along with the other 3001old
and 3002old parts. You have a very vintage piece there!

Probably something fromn the mid 1970s. The 3001old with these tubes were introduced
in 1973. Sellers usually list them separately with "with split tubes" in the
comments.

This part comes up over and over and over again. What are the search terms you
used when looking for the part? The title needs to be updated to make it easier
to locate in the catalog.

This part, the tipper bed wedge end thing, the train posts, the watch bezel,
and a half dozen others that show up weekly...

I'm of the opinion that many of these things can't be adequately described

I'd propose there be a...well, I'd propose a lot of things...but for
this I'd propose there be a forum section entitled "WHAT IS THIS PART" and
that page would have these dozen always-asked-for items be permafixed there as
big, you-can't-miss-'em images. Those along with links to the goatleg
and whatnot. After that stuff, then a box to post the question if it hasn't
been resolved by the aforementioned.
