Hi guys,
regarding LEGO 9474 Helm's Deep, keep it or sell it?
Is it a set that will increase the value even more?

Some colors of parts from this era are becoming brittle and cracking. Dark Red,
Dark Brown, Reddish Brown, etc.

If your set is used, you can check these parts carefully. If it's still sealed,
well, then?? It's anyone's guess how it will all turn out.

Not very helpful I know!

It will almost certainly continue to increase in value but at what rate is hard
to say?
A year from now pricing may not have shifted all that much at all or it could
jump up by several hundred pounds. Nobody can know for sure. In the end it comes
down to whether or not you could do with the money for other things. If not then
you may as well hold on to it as Lego will always remain a good investment though
considering the overall size of the set its probably fair to say that there are
better sets to invest in overall!

If you are in two minds and not overly concerned about selling it. Price it at
the higher end of the market price guide that way if it sells you will get better
than average money for it and if it doesn't sell, well it continues to remain
a good investment for you!

After 10 years of holding onto 3 copies of this set I actually decided to sell
one to make way for other stock and it sold only a couple of months ago for £469.95
which is currently the highest sold price in the last 6 months for this particular
set:-

Obviously you are far less likely to get a quick sale with this approach but
it can be a worthwhile approach if you're not entirely sure whether you want
to sell it or not

I imagine it will keep on slowly increasing in value, but not at the rate it
has done. Much of the amount a set increases in value is in the first year after
retirement or after some important event. This set has now had both types.
It is long retired and there have been two significant events in that first LEGO
became significantly more popular with adults around 2016-18 and more recently
in that LOTR sets have been produced again, both these revitalizing interest
in them to people that might not have been interested before. It will slowly
increase as the lower priced sets are sold but it is unlikely to jump again.
If LEGO do a new Theoden minifigure, then that could impact on further growth
on his value. While new versions of figures or sets don't necessarily affect
the value of the old, they can reduce the sales volumes as people happy with
any version will go for the cheaper newer ones. Similarly if they do a new Helm's
Deep or similar set in future, the better value new version may slow sales of
the older one even more than they currently are (if the prices are not dropped).

If you feel you are good at picking "winners" for the future, I'd
sell now and reinvest as future winners will jump in value more at retirement
than sets that have already experienced a lot of growth in value.

After the initial spike, sets don't actually tend to go up much, they simply
keep up with inflation. Which can look like prices rising, but it really isn't.
I would sell it. Personally.
