Variant Merge - How do I sort this out after being close for a couple years.
I had always hoped to reopen when my elderly parent caregiver roll had ended.
I feel like it's just not worth the bother to merge or update all these parts
with "notes" of variants. That's quite ridiculous. I don't know
what the push is, but this is certainly pushing me to the point of - is it worth
my time?

This is a very bad, generic move - the catalog was awesome, now no more.

Really. I'm not sure what to do to keep my inventory current now.
Apparently, I've missed a lot.

Couple points: I have sold on here about 4 years, I do not like the changes,
but whats more worrisome to me is what these changes mean coupled with the decision
to full steam ahead with them despite immensely vocal opposition by the bricklkink
community.

To me this is my faith in this site gone. That being said, you can still do
business on this site efficiently, the circling of the drain will be a long one.
This is my opinion, I'm sure there are others.

It's evident corporate doesn't want these distinctions at all moving
forward. They expect most sellers to say, "screw it, I won't mark these
distinctions in the notes!" BL sellers and buyers alike lose out on the historical
specificity, options, price-point, and general utility of the site. The only
winner is TLG.

I decided to go ahead and enter comments for the listed variants in my inventory.
It was not too painful a process. I simply followed the instructions for this
given in the initial FAQ. (It is the process wherein you create a wanted list,
and then see which variant parts are in your store) I will add that I only did
this for my current existing stock. I will not be carrying the process forward
for new stock. I'm treating this is sort of an experiment, just to see if
it makes any difference.

However, having done this, I don't know that I would recommend you do the
same, unless you are very devoted to distinguishing the variants, or believe
that your buyers are discriminating enough to care about the comments and variant
distinctions.

Bricklink officially advises you that it is not worth your time. You can decide
to provide comments distinguishing none, some, or all of the variants in your
stock - it is very unlikely to make a difference to the vast majority of buyers.

I hope this helps.

Before you worry too much about it, I would advise checking your inventory against
the XML list of the parts that are affected. It's not as many as you would
think.

**Can someone repost the instructions on how to do that here? I can't seem
to find the post. And has this list been updated yet with the newest announcement?**

Once you know, you can decide if you want to continue to list these separately
(with a note for you and your buyers) or combine your lots once the merge is
done.

Thanks,
~Jen

After the merges, you just do a search for identical lots and then go look at
them. If you want to lump them together, do it. If you want to keep them separate,
describe them. I agree with you about their decision, but keeping the inventory
straight shouldn't be very hard.

What I noticed during parting out a set:

- When I go to the first part out screen, the system notifies me that some
of the parts to be parted out are already in my inventory

- As I want to consolidate them, this is perfectly fine

- But on the next screen before final confirmation the parts for which already
existing lots have a comment (e.g. 7 teeth) are now shown as new lots and will
be created exactly as new lots

This is very bad and I don't understand the difference why the system recognizes
the same lots on the first scheen but then finally does not merge these lots?

Do I miss something?
