maybe a simple Poll would be something needed to see what the Community thinks
moving forward.
Poll:
Which option would you prefer as a gummy Solution
A) nothing, gummy Spam is Delicious!
B) require a Forum Pay-To-Play Positive Feedback, similar to the Seller
Requirement
C) require new users to be Verified by some Official Secondary means w/
Bricklink i.e. a payment processor.
D) ban Zero Feedback Members from posting URL Links in the Forum.
E) allow Zero Feedback Members Limited Forum Access that is visible to
Moderators Only and does not post publicly.
F) Restrict New Users from using the Forum Period, placing them in a 'Guest
User' mode until they actually buy/sell something. any questions they have
can be directed straight to either Admin's, Moderators or Veteran BL Members
who volunteer to answer Guest User Questions.
being fair, let's say leave poll open for 2 weeks...
to give occational forum readers a chance to participate, if they want too.

Are the links a problem though? How many people see an obvious spam message with
loads of links in and think it would be a good idea to follow them?
To me, the issue is that the spam exists, not that there are clickable links
in the spam. Stopping any clickable links doesn't solve the spam issue.
Luckily, enough people report them and forum moderators act quickly once they
are reported reported and then the spam disappears if you have the hide cancelled
posts setting selected.

My thought was that if a new user tries to post a message with a URL, BL would
give the user an error (URLs/links not allowed in messages from new members,
or something like that,) and the message would not go through at all. If a spammer
found that he could not post a message with a link, he would give up very soon
(hopefully,) and leave.
You're entirely right about BL members not being dumb enough to click on
obviously bogus links (which makes me wonder why the spammers go to the trouble
of posting them anyway.) I also agree with you that the moderators do a good
job of cancelling the spam posts.

Then the moderators could release posts to the public once they see they are
not spam. It would be great if they could then have control to, in a sense, "Unlock"
their activity after a period of time where it becomes obvious to them that the
poster is not a spammer and then their posts would no longer need to be subject
to their approval.

I'm pretty sure network administrators have better things to do with their
time than post advertisements for keto gummies in the BrickLink discussion forum.
I'm going to play devil's advocate here and argue that we need more
gummy spam. A few posts per night is just not enough. We need to create some
sort of incentive to get these spammers to post more, especially during the daytime
when more people can read their posts before they get cancelled by the moderators.
Maybe some catalog credit or a store coupon, or a discount on seller fees.

|
For my part, I only cancel gummy posts so I can keep the good deals they advertise
to myself.

these are not "New BL Members".. they are Network Administrators at some
company.

I'm pretty sure network administrators have better things to do with their
time than post advertisements for keto gummies in the BrickLink discussion forum.

Easiest would be to create a specific Topic "GUMMIES"
This way spammers would post there, for sure.
And there would be cron or such batch that empties the Topic every minute!
Brilliant!

Instead of deleting the messages, maybe we could replace the "Store Sales"
column on the homepage with the Gummies topic.
That would help reduce the amount of spam in the Sales topic from sellers trying
to get on the homepage.
