I noticed that the numbers 30, 45, 53, 75, 79, 92, 112 are not in use and also
numbers 170-209.
Any reason for skipping those?

Always wondered what the story is there... Reddish Orange was 256 before being
bumped down to 167.

I read (somewhere) that the database can handle only integer figures upto 255,
so Reddish Orange had to use a lower (unused) value. As for the other missing
values...?

112 was merged in 2005:
https://www.bricklink.com/catalogReqList.asp?nID=&viewDate=Y&viewType=E&viewStatus=A&viewAction=A

167-209 were Brickarms colors which were added in early 2018 and removed some
time after The LEGO Group acquired BrickLink, so the numbers can now be used
for normal colors.

The other gaps I cannot explain, but I guess they were merged as well and the
log entries were deleted.

Or maybe they never were logged because they were merged directly in the database
(olden times, when the site was more artisanal).
