| I sold an item to a US buyer, and they requested to have their item insured.
In my invoice, I put the cost of insurance in the Insurance box, but Bricklink
has now added that to the taxes that they take. I didn't notice it until
after the buyer paid. What can I do?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. In what way did BrickLink take out
the insurance cost?

The tax rate for the order is 5%, but instead of the tax totaling $30, it is
$42.15 which is the 5% rate plus the insurance.

Are you sure that's the correct rate, and the total of $42.15 for tax collected
isn't simply coincidental?

I'm sure. I have looked at the payment details on Paypal, and it shows 600
for subtotal, 25 for shipping, and 42.15 for taxes. There isn't a line for
insurance.

I think the only thing you can do is contact the Help Desk then. Or hopefully
an admin will see this thread.

Not sure what has occurred exactly...
That BL folded the itemized insurance amount that you applied to the order, into
their "partner fee" and that you didn't receive it, or that BL calculated
taxes on the insured amount? If the latter, insurance falls within "taxable
services" for online sales/use taxation in some states.
Can you clarify?

My reply to another comment explains it.

I don't know this, but I would guess, this is probably to prevent people
adjusting numbers to avoid paying fees and/or taxes.
Kinda how ebay takes a fee on shipping costs because people were gaming it
