I am always amused by how many different kinds of people ask on the Forum: I
want to sell here, but I read the rules and would rather not do what they say,
so how can I get around them?

The rules are there to encourage new sellers to learn a bit about how the system
works first and so to protect our buyers here. It also discourages scam stores
from being able to set up quickly and easily.

So, Good Luck! new would-be sellers in setting up a shop, navigating the BrickLink
system, learning how to pack up orders and about the postal system. Placing an
order for a feedback is the least big hoop to jump through I'd say!

I never read the rules, but I registered before you needed positive feedback
to open a store. My very first BrickLink order was an order that I received,
not an order that I placed.

It took me 4 months to get the first order received (after having talked in forum
and PMs, and having placed a few orders).
I then took 2 or 3 extra months before opening officially.

I'm fine with BrickLink taking time to register new sellers.
This way it may discourage quick register-sell-and-run schemes?

The only thing is that it should be written somewhere when registering/upgrading,
like "This will take up to a month" or such text.

No one reads Help/Terms, see the vast majority of the questions in forum, including
about this delay

I meant, in BOLD RED (or something like this) just above the register/upgrade
button.
Or a check box "I understand it will take a long delay"...

Well, that's just the difference between 2005 and 2014.

When Brickbay.com first when online on Jun 19, 2000, it was just a small community
of longtime adult LEGO fans looking to trade with other AFOLs. Total sales volume
was low and orders were relatively infrequent. New seller verification was much
faster then than it is today and didn't require positive feedback, but receiving
your first order and establishing yourself within the community took longer.

All of the currently open stores were listed on the home page: https://www.bricklink.com/archive/history/BB101800.htm

When topoloco1912 registered on 6 septembre 2005, much of that was still true,
but by the time wildchicken13 registered on Aug 11, 2014, things had started
to change. On Feb 7, 2014, The Lego Movie began showing in American theaters
and suddenly playing with children's toys at age 13 became socially acceptable.

Combine that with the March 2020 COVID-19 pandemic and bored people stuck at
home looking for something to do and suddenly Brickbay was transformed from a
small community of a few hundred dedicated AFOLs to an ecommerce marketplace
with over a million registered users owned by a multibillion-kroner holding company.

Now, the list of stores fills thousands of pages, and the home page only lists
stores that had a high sales volume during the past month, or those that have
posted a sales announcement in the forum in the past day, or those that have
received positive feedback from a buyer near you within the past few minutes.

I'm fine with BrickLink taking time to register new sellers.
This way it may discourage quick register-sell-and-run schemes?

Indeed, I have no problem with BrickLink taking weeks or months to verify new
stores, if only because I am already an established seller with an open store
and I live in a big country where I can move and not have to undergo the verification
process all over again.

Some would argue that it's not fair to new sellers because it puts them at
a competitive disadvantage to old sellers, but it also helps prevent scammers.
It can also be unfair to sellers who live in smaller countries and have to close
their store for weeks or months if they want to move.

The only thing is that it should be written somewhere when registering/upgrading,
like "This will take up to a month" or such text.

As Sylvain (the other one) pointed out, it is written in the help pages, but
not everyone reads the fine print.

Sometimes, posting in the forum does help. I remember once I had a MOC in the
Studio gallery set to display only due to copyright infringement. When I complained
about in in the forum, Russell changed it back.

So, maybe when someone complains in the forum that their store is still not verified
after many weeks, it brings it to the attention of the site admins, who can then
address the issue, whether it be a technical issue with the site, the buyer not
knowing how to open their store, or not enough staff at the help desk.

And Nubs can tell them to be patient and to celebrate with pizza when their store
is finally approved. 🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕

Same here - we've got a backlog of orders (Xmas...), and when a buyer writes
me, after a kind discussion I try to put her/him in (a higher) priority.

It's normal, while somewhere abnormal for those who aren't complaining

I like the idea of certain delays which participate in maintaining some Quality
here.

It's just it should be written in big red bold before people click.
Because then you can think, prepare the whole process, etc.

Except many sellers don’t leave feedback. Or wait for the buyer to receive their
product, mark the order as complete before they do. Then perhaps on a quarterly
basis. Essentially, an order is not guaranteed pathway to seller verification.
Though perhaps thats a good lesson too
