| Twice now instant checkout has charged buyer's less than half what shipping
costs on new set orders. I've infilled the rates and rates on my shipping
page and it has no idea what a set weighs evidently. Any help, suggestions, and
advice is appreciated. It does fine with minifigure orders but gets stupid on
sets. I've disabled instant checkout and feel it's easier to do invoices.
At least I'm not giving my inventory away

| Bricklink finds the weight based off of the weight in the catalog for that item.
A setting must be messed up if it’s choosing a different rate. Maybe post a picture
of your shipping calculator setup so perhaps it can be solved

The second one I contacted the buyer and he agreed to send the difference for
shipping. It only charged him like 7 and change for a 15$ delivery fee. I'll
try shortly and post it. But the set was basically the same weight as the parrot.
It was the red tractor

Count me as against the practice of charging buyers extra after they've already
paid.

I get that but it never hurts to ask. If he hadn't I would have shipped it

BrickLink weights and dimensions don't include packaging, etc. - maybe you
need to build in some margins for that? Before I had flat shipping I used 10%
+ 1 oz. - this works well for smaller packages, but probably not for larger ones
where you're using a sturdy box. That can add 5-8oz to the overall weight.

Ahh, I didn't mean build in margins for the weight of the items. That's
a lot of work. At the bottom of the page when you edit a shipping method you'll
see the following. For a shipping method intended for sets, I would try something
like base weight 8oz weight margin 20%. So a 1.5 lb set would be calculated at
2 lbs 4.8 oz (24oz plus 8oz base + 4.8oz weight margin) when packaged:

Ok. That does what I'm doing manually. I didn't understand the terms
used. That helps a lot too. Understanding the terminology. So the base weight
(1) is the weight bricklink has for said set/part?. The weight margin is how
much packaging adds. Right?

| I ship large sets often. a sturdy box can add 1# - 1.5# on 23x16x6 dimension
sets. Always have a margin % set to cover this.

If it hasn't been suggested already, recommend you consider manual invoice
for heavier sets. Or add some restrictions & package adjustments so that the
shipping calculates correctly. Personally I would just go with Manual , request
an invoice on these . Also make sure you set your own shipping settings, do not
import any - they are probably somewhat outdated.

Make sure you enable the quote option and display it on the checkout page. I
usually empty carts when I see that it doesn't give me the shipping cost
upfront. Some exceptions are
- quote option shown on checkout page for me to select; - I have bought from
the seller often enough before to know that their shipping is reasonable; - no
one else has the part at a price not significantly more and I really want the
part bad.
There must be a way to enable instant checkout but have lots of exceptions to
it. I have done a search with "instant checkout" selected, only to have
to go through several sellers listings before one actually filled in the shipping
cost and allowed me to instant checkout. To see this I first have to meet the
minimum, so it becomes quite time consuming. I remove any parts with unknown
weights to see if shipping cost will populate, and often it does not.
