Hello,

I feel as long as I been doing this I would of ran across something like this
before. I have sold to several new members with zero feedback and believe we
all start somewhere. But today, I received an order from a member that created
the account today, ordered a $400 minifigure (Arf trooper). Guess my questions
are -

Could this be some type of scam?
Should I cancel the order?
Other then insurance, what if anything can I do to protect not losing $400

Thanks,
Marty

Not suspicious at all. It is a rare figure.
He/she probably created the account because the only place they could find it
is on Bricklink.

If you want to overkill it, you could ship UPS extra insurance and signature
required. That way you know it was delivered to their door and a person signed
for it.

Just let them you are requiring signature, some people are never home during
the workweek.

Probably worth it on such a high dollar figure. Use at least an 8x6x4 box though,
UPS loses bubble mailers.

Thanks for the feedback, also thought it was odd that they bought it with a new
account within hours of me listing it and sending notifications. Like the only
way they know about it, is through another account receiving the notifications,
or it is just extremely odd timing that they happened to open an account to look
for a figure that I posted just hours before. Good advice on requiring a signature
and larger box.

Thanks - Marty

Do you have a long list of members you stoplisted?

3-4 years ago.

In that case i am wondering if it may be someone who cannot login to his account
since 3rd November accident so he decided to create a new account and buy this.

If this would happen to me, all alarmbells would go off. Ofcourse is not necessarily
a scam, but it sounds at least a little suspicious.

Trackable AND insured shipping should be highly recommended, not only in this
case but because of the value of the order.
When I was in your position, I would, in this case, only accept a non-returnable
form of payment if that's possible (such as a bank transfer).

This happened to me recently with 75252-1 The Imperial Star Destroyer for $975.
I emailed the buyer and explained that such a large purchase to someone with
zero feedback made me a little nervous and that I might have to add delivery
signature. I got a reply and we talked back and forth a few times. This guy had
been lurking for a while and finally got enough saved up to justify the purchase.

My advice is to reach out and strike up a conversation with the buyer. Don't
make the sale until you are comfortable with the buyer. Sellers don't have
a lot of protections, and shipping insurance might only cover damage sustained
in transit and not from theft. Just be careful.
