Hello! I am new to the Bricklink Community and have a question regarding discontinued
sets. I recently purchased a bulk collection of LEGO. From this collection,
I think I will be able to complete several discontinued sets. What's the
general rule for something like this especially with common pieces? Are buyers
expecting original common parts or is it okay that the set was created from a
mixture of parts.

as long as it matches the bricklink inventory and rules you should be good to
go. some buyers may want era exact molds and variations but that is a lot of
work and research so it may not be worth the time

I might be able to supply that, if you find a way to list it here - the things
you find in thriftshop Lego crates never stop amazing me ... :p

Hi,

My rule of thumb is if it's from before 2000 YES IT MATTERS.

The older it is, the more it matters, I'd say anything before 1990, collectors
WILL notice if something is not original.

Keep in mind this isn't even about variants. I can tell the decade a brick
was from by looking at it, most vintage collectors can do the same. I usually
sell incomplete sets as is, or I finish them from another incomplete set. I literally
have hundreds of pounds of decade separated parts to do so with.
