| When a user contacts me (via messages), I receive an email from blservice@bricklink.com.
What happens to the reply I send via my email client?

It's just "lost" AFAIK.
It's kind of a noreply@bricklink.com.
It's a pure pain, I copy the email address which is in the message and replace
the blservice@bricklink.com with this address.

Thank you for your reply.
Would be a useful and minor change it's changed to noreply@... so it's
more a give-away the email won't arrive.

It goes to blservice@bricklink.com and then disappears into the nether. If you
want to contact a member, do it through BrickLink or put their email address
in yourself.

This is not the behavior that it used to have. Last I can check was a message
from 2022.06.06, which has a reply-to field with the e-mail address of the member,
not blservice.

I experience both variants. For some messages: it's the blservice@... email
address.
For other kind of messages: it's the actual user address. Haven't investigated
when it's which.
Always using the same email client by the way too.

Not quite accurate...
Messages sent through the old BL message system (via our little mail envelope
link) shows the member as the return email address.
Messages sent through the new BL message system enacted in the storefronts shows
blservice.
BrickLink has been told many, many times about the discrepancy and all it's
problems. We should keep telling them until it gets fixed.

Part of the story, is that some of those header fields, and under specific combinations,
conflict with best spam-prevention practices. I know that at one point in time,
replying to a Contact notification email would go back to the email of the sender.
At one point in time, it seemed like everyone that I responded to (via BL) would
then end up responding to me via email. So the capability was there, but it may
have changed.

AFAIK from the e-mails I receive from blservice, the Reply-To field is correctly
set to the sender’s email address. Therefore, when I hit Reply on MUA (Mail-User
Agent), the reply goes to the address in that field (that is, the member).
If your MUA is stupid, it’ll send the reply to the From field, blservice, and
it will be lost in time like tears in the rain.

I noticed the behavior in my mail client (fat client Microsoft Outlook 365) is
different from where the email originated. Sometime the reply is to the actual
user's email address, sometime it's to blservice@...
In any case, it would be more obvious if blservice@ would be changed to noreply@
for a clearer visual indication.

Check the “source” to see the fields.
My guess is that the e-mails that go to blservice because they don’t have a Reply-To
field do that because the member chose to do it this way.
For instance, some Invoices allow to reply to the store, others don’t.
As I never sent an invoice, I don’t know where the option is but it must be somewhere….

Wouldn’t hurt… except those who set up filters on blservice
