My son (9) is interested in getting some power into his MOC's (e.g. open
and close doors, lifting things up, move heads or legs of any creatures he makes).
He uses the program Scratch now and than and we saw you can use Scratch on Lego
as well. But how to, I'm not sure.

I'm just not sure if you need any of the Lego sets (like Boost or Mindstorms)
to use Scratch or if you could just buy an motor set (and which one???) and build
your own things.
It looks like many of the powerd sets ar either cars of robots and he's not
interested in those sets, but he is interested in powering up his Lego.

Also I'm a little confused about which power source to use. There is Boost,
Powered Up, Function, mindstorms. Which one to choose?

Is there someone who can help us with this? I've been looking on the internet,
but I'm still not sure what to choose.

I'm not very good ad technics myself...I just happen to have a son who is

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

You could check the LEGO shop online to see what they currently have available.
This way your sone is working with the newest technology!

Good luck!

In order to use Scratch, I think you need one of the hubs that are either in
the recently-retired

Set No: 51515 Name: Robot Inventor
*
51515-1 (Inv) Robot Inventor
949 Parts, 2020
Sets: MINDSTORMS
or in one of the SPIKE sets

Set No: 45678 Name: SPIKE Prime Set
*
45678-1 (Inv) SPIKE Prime Set
520 Parts, 2 Minifigures, 4 Gear, 2020
Sets: Educational & Dacta: SPIKE Prime
or

Set No: 45345 Name: SPIKE Essential Set
*
45345-1 (Inv) SPIKE Essential Set
433 Parts, 4 Minifigures, 4 Gear, 2021
Sets: Educational & Dacta: SPIKE Prime
I think the hub may also be purchased separately from LEGO. It includes a rechargeable
battery.

Apart from these hubs, the components they support (motors/lights/sensors) are
mostly from the Powered Up line which also has its own hibs controled either
by a mobile phone app or a remote (for the train sets).

This is simplified summary, hope this helps.
