Hello,

I am searching for the right color name of those old light grey used in sets
like 6061. None of the colors in the color lists seem to match. Maybe someone
can help me ?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

It’s Light Gray.

You can check the dates on the Color Guide https://www.bricklink.com/catalogColors.asp
(but they not exact because of the way they are collected).

You can also use this more accurate list: http://www.ryanhowerter.net/colors.php

Thanks for the more accurate list. I searched for better dates here on site but
did not found any. That list is very useful!

Yes, that’s because the dates in BL’s colour guide is derived from inventories
and sets’ production years, not the colours or parts themselves (which we don’t
always know).

For instance Light Gray is said to go from 1954 to 2008 but the ‘real’ end date
is 2006 (I’d have said 2004, the second year of the Great Colour Change, but
LEGO uses its stocks to the end ).
The difference comes from the fact that some sets were produced during and after
the change.  Their early production runs used LG and the later ones used LBG.
But, for the catalogue, the sets have an end date of 2008 and they have LG parts
in their inventories.  So the small summary on the Colour Guide gives 2008 for
the end of LG.
We have the same problem with mould variants.
