| So 3 weeks ago I decided to add a local pick-up option to my shipping list. Since
then I have consistently had 2-3 orders per DAY by people all over the country
selecting that as their shipping option. What am I missing? Is there a setting
I should have chosen that would deter non-locals from selecting that option?
For other sellers who have a local pick-up option, how many of your other orders
are you having to send out shipping invoices to? How do you keep buyers from
defaulting to that selection?
I was trying to make things easier, but at this point having to send out multiple
invoices a day, keep track of who has paid and who hasn't, while running
the rest of the business has become a major hassle. Any help and advice would
be great.

This is what I have under the local pick-up option:
STOP, STOP, STOP!!!!
IN PERSON PICKUP ONLY.
We will cancel any orders that should have had a different shipping option.

It will show to them as the cheapest option whether they are local or not. If
you want local pickup, it is probably best to have this under the manual invoice
only option. At least that way, you can invoice for shipping if it is not a local
buyer.

| Years ago I suggested that sellers be allowed to have a local pickup option for
shipping, but that it needed a password to use, similar to bypassing a store's
minimum buy. No one at Bricklink cared, so the idea never went anywhere.

| Honestly, its not worth having it.
I lived in Southern Cali, a huge area for lego, and got like...2 local pickups.
Both people messaged be before and I just invoiced them like a penny for shipping
or something.
So, I then added a separate shipping option.
Everyone as you've discovered, presses it. They don't read. I never found
a way to make it stop except to remove it.
If people want to pick up locally, they'll just message you, don't bother
with it is my opinion.
also, to be noted, both my local pickups could have spent less money or like...$4...just
having me ship it, because they were always pretty far away despite being "close".
One guy drove 2 hours for an order that was $7 to ship *shrug*

| Ginny,
If someone pays with PayPal and picks up locally, there's no proof of delivery
and no seller protection. How are going to prove you "shipped" the order?
I used to offer local pickup where I lived or in midtown Manhattan I work. Almost
no one took me up on it. If the savings is worth someone's time they reach
out on their own.

| Thanks everyone for your great replies. I added the option since I get 1-2 in-person
pick-ups per month; a number that has been increasing over the last couple of
years. I was trying to simplify things, but as I noted in my initial post it
has created more work instead of less. I hadn't thought about a PayPal dispute;
I'll have to noodle on that one a bit.

I have local pick-up as an option and it's a big hit, I get 1-2 buyers per
week. It's under manual invoice so I only had one buyer so far making a mistake.
In addition to local buyers, I get some buyers that are from out of town and
that will stop as they pass by.
I wouldn't worry about fraud claims as those are buyers that will very likely
come back. Worst case, buy a Ring doorbell, you'll have the video.
