When the main item cannot be considered a figure without having a sticker applied,
then we do not add it as a figure.

Logical, from a pure catalog perspective, I guess. But from a seller prospective,
it's a LOUSY argument and one I disagree with.

As a seller, I wanna sell the fig without the sticker. If I can't do it
here, I will do it on another venue. The BL catalog exists to aid COMMERCE so
sellers can sell stuff; it does not exist purely as a reference catalog that
is "exactly accurate," whatever that might even mean.

It's Lego. It's a TOY. Whether it has a face or not could be left to
the imagination.
The fig in question is also an insect. Whether insects have faces or not, I
do not know.

Going forward in time, lotsa people might rebuild this minifig and not have the
stickered tile. With the current thinking in place, they won't be able to
offer it for sale here. What a load of baloney.

I notice the sticker sheet has TWO face options for the sticker.

Why are there not TWO minifig entries with the sticker face? 166s1 and 166s2

That's fine. You are welcome to your opinion.

As a seller, I wanna sell the fig without the sticker. If I can't do it
here, I will do it on another venue.

That is also fine, and I understand your argument. However, the catalog has to
have guidelines, or it would be the Wild West. In other words, someone has to
draw the lines at what gets added and what doesn't. We are put in our roles
to help drive those guidelines, and the current catalog admin team made the decision
to not allow counterpart assemblies as figures if they cannot be considered a
figure without a sticker. However, we could always have our minds changed.

The BL catalog exists to aid COMMERCE so
sellers can sell stuff; it does not exist purely as a reference catalog that
is "exactly accurate," whatever that might even mean.

We know that, and that is why things are constantly being updated and changed
to aid in commerce. It literally is the reason for our roles. We do part category
moves, catalog item type moves, tried a "Special Assembly" category,
defined full sets of CMFs for sale even though TLG does not, added new colors
to the catalog that were not yet recognized because they were thought unimportant
in the past, added all cardboard sleeves to the catalog so that people would
know what was in them, created new relationships and populated them to make finding
things easier in more ways, etc., etc. And we are always in the process of discussing
other things to aid in making things easier for everybody as much as we can.

  It's Lego. It's a TOY.

Why does that negate the need for a structured catalog that follows guidelines
to be able to manage a complex marketplace?

Whether it has a face or not could be left to the imagination.

Not really. The character is from a video game, and in that video game, the character
has a face. There is nothing left to the imagination.

The fig in question is also an insect. Whether insects have faces or not, I
do not know.

There are many search engines, AI chatbots, and even Wikipedia to help with that.

Going forward in time, lotsa people might rebuild this minifig and not have the
stickered tile.

Once again, by our definitions, it is not a figure without the stickered tile,
just like a figure defined with a cape is not a figure without the cape.

With the current thinking in place, they won't be able to
offer it for sale here. What a load of baloney.

You can't list figures for sale here that do not meet the figure inventories
as defined here, so BrickLink is well aware of what is able to be sold here and
not sold here. The catalog admins did not make that decision; the community of
sellers that wanted a stable price guide based on identical items being sold
and BrickLink management made that decision. So, just like you can't sell
a figure here that is defined as having a cape without the cape*, you can't
sell Moto Bug here without the sticker. That's the rules as they are. Obviously
this could change in the future, but sellers here (according to what I have heard
and witnessed) have largely been in favor of the choice BrickLink made.

* You actually can sell the figure without the cape, but you can't use the
figure entry in the catalog. You either have to part it out, list it as a custom
lot, or sell it somewhere else. Likewise, you can actually sell Moto Bug here
without the sticker, but you can't use the figure entry as defined in the
catalog.

It is the same reason that we don't have two figure entries for each figure
in an instruction manual that shows it with a hair and helmet piece. Only one
of them can be available at a time, so the catalog has to define one. The one
that is defined is the one that comes first in the instruction manual. In this
case, the first shown in the instruction manual (and on the set packaging for
that matter) is the one that is in the Moto Bug inventory. These are the same
guidelines that have been followed for figures since BrickLink started. It is
nothing new.

If you have any more questions or want to discuss things further, please contact
us (catalog@bricklink.com). We really do listen to the community, but we can't
do everything that everyone wants or please everyone. Believe me when I say that
we know that going into every decision we make.

Cheers,
Randy

The downside here is that bricklink are also removing incomplete minifigures
listed as custom items. This of course means they also delete photos and descriptions
and you have to do thiscwork again to relist it. And if you ask them why, they
tell you to take it up with catalogue administrators. Unfortunately some paid
BL staff don't have a clue what they are doing.

If you are missing any part of any minifigure, you cannot offer it for sale as
a minifigure here. Why should this be any different?

A listing wouldn't necessarily let you do that. The one WITH sticker has
been in the catalog a couple weeks and no one has sold one and no one is offering
one. I am pretty doubtful of there being a market for this character. But he
has an average partout value of $3.

Really doubt it.
