I'm quite frankly disgusted at the number of people that are selling on here
that will only accept PayPal. I don't have it, I don't want it. Why be
so narrow minded and arrogant to expect people to only pay your way? I'm
frigging sick of it

Wow, no reason to be that upset over something!
Paypal is by far the largest financial app out there. Not to mention they bought
out Venmo which was the second largest. My point is, close to 95% of people
use Paypal.

Our shop for 2022, official numbers:
PayPal 76%
Stripe 10%
SEPA/IBAN 14%

And we accept more than 10 currencies; some people seem to appreciate to pay
in their currency - I can understand this every time I buy in HUF or see Shipping
prices in Zloty

It's an extra cost for us, but maybe an extra order also

Of the 688 orders I've had this year, 590 were PayPal and 98 by Stripe.
That yields 85.75% for Paypal and 14.25% for Stripe. You point that PayPal is
the largest still holds true, but a lot of people are not a big fan of them and
would use others if given the chance.

You misread what I said. I never said just BL, I am talking about Paypal overall.
And those stats are just based on your store. I understand. But my point
is world wide, not just on BL. But even on BL, it is the dominating financial
go to.

I don't disagree with you, PayPal is a massive fee collecting machine.
That said, I'd bet that my store percentage is plus or minus a percent or
two of the greater Bricklink community that offers both payment methods. I also
still feel that a lot of people are not a big fan of PayPal, and would use other
options if given the choice, which is why offer Stripe. It's really not
hard to setup a Stripe account, and I'm surprised more sellers don't
offer it. If 25% of my 98 Stripe orders this year would only use Stripe and
I didn't offer it, it would have cost me approximately $500 in lost sales
based on a $20 average order.

Just for fun I went back to last year's numbers as well. 115 of my 1056
orders were with Stripe for 10.9%. If that kind of growth persists for a few
more years, sellers who are PayPal exclusive are going to be missing out.

Well, there's no comparable alternative.

You have to understand the "people that are selling on here" are being
corralled into only accepting those payment processors BL is working with, due
in part to the site itself being corralled (by recent legislations) into collecting
requisite taxes on most transactions.

Pull back and focus at least some of that understandable ire on those that influence
such things, and less on the sellers here

You don't have to have a PayPal account to pay using PayPal, AFAIK - at least
that was possible years ago.

And there's also Stripe, SEPA/IBAN, personnal check, etc.

I've had zero problem with PayPal for 18 years, and it's even cheaper
than our bank!

So, I don't *like* PayPal, but frankly it's not the worst.

I'm not sure how this could be arrogant.

Ok, first off take a breathe and calm down. Secondly, bricklink only allows sellers
to use certain company’s, and PayPal is the only one that is most usable. We
can’t do bank transfers even if we wanted. Not the sellers “arrogance” just bricklink
trying to avoid scammers.

This is a reply to both this thread and one from a week ago that was titled "Excluding
sellers who only accept Paypal".

https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1427770

I would caution sellers that don't have experience dealing with the typical
credit card services company like Stripe. Please do your own due diligence and
check reviews by others online outside of this forum before jumping into this
(especially if you are mainly a low volume seller).

Sellers also keep asking if selling international is worth it. If you're
a high volume seller maybe you swim those waters, but do you have the time to
deal with the hassle and loss of revenue. I think the same could be said about
selling on multiple competing platforms, but no one wants to talk about that
here.

As a hobby seller you can make a good profit here, claiming it as a small business
on your taxes along with your day job, but its my opinion that none of the above
is necessary to run a successful BrickLink store.
