even though Monkie Kid is little liked, it seems very odd that neither of these
are being sold anywhere or ever have been. Does anyone know why?

Probably because they are so new no one has got them for sale on here yet. They
are 2023 release items

The Monkie Kid sets are not in regular stores that sell LEGOs (Wal-Mart, Target,
etc.) You can only get them online or at a LEGO store, so any Monkie Kid MF
(not just the ones you mentioned) will be much more rare than MFs from other
themes.

That makes sense, but there are other Monkie kid minifigures from the same wave
of sets being sold in several different places. Such as

Minifig No: mk130 Name: Sandy Power-up
*
mk130 (Inv) Sandy Power-up
Minifigures: Monkie Kid
and

Minifig No: mk126 Name: Monkey King - Yellow Robe, Black Bandana
*
mk126 (Inv) Monkey King - Yellow Robe, Black Bandana
Minifigures: Monkie Kid
.
I just think it seems strange. I thought Mk127 would be a more popular minifigure
(as monkie kid stuff goes.)

And while I'm discussing Monkie Kid, I might as well address another point
that confuses me. I cannot figure why the Monkie Kid theme as an whole is as
unpopular as it is. Is it just because it is not sold at stores like crazylegoman
said? I've seen the T.V. show and, although it wasn't great, I thought
it was strides better than the Ninjago one. Maybe just my opinion? I do not
know.

I’m pretty sure it’s extremely popular in china where lego has been expanding
quite a bit lately but can’t say I’ve seen to many fans

That's kind of what I was thinking since it's a re-telling a Chinese
myth and all...

For info, it seems in France it’s aired on Cartoon Network, only available on
cable & internet and with a subscription.
(Plus, there were shenanigans between Warner Bros and Canal+.  So Warner’s channels
aren’t included in Canal+ packages any more.  And Canal+ is big in France.  If
you subscribe to channel packages, it’s the first you take.)

For comparison, Ninjago is on national TV, free and rerunned from time to time
and available for free on streaming too.
Same with Dreamzz now.
And I think France TV is airing (or aired) the City series too.

What I mean is that the strategy is different, and if that applies everywhere
but in East Asia, that explains why it’s not popular overall.

That would probably be the reason. I think in the U.S.A. the first two seasons
are available free on Amazon prime T.V. I don't know that you can watch
it anywhere else here.

It is based on an old, classic Chinese novel that is pretty popular in the Far
East (where the theme does well), but it really isn't a story that kids here
in the Americas grow up hearing about. We have Disney for that.

If you saw or read Dragon Ball, you should have déjà vu moments

There was a movie too: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059855/ (I only saw the
first part)

I have not seen the movie, but I did hear that LEGO picked up a lot of their
Monkie king design there.

even though Monkie Kid is little liked, it seems very odd that neither of these
are being sold anywhere or ever have been. Does anyone know why?

The Monkie Kid sets are not in regular stores that sell LEGOs (Wal-Mart, Target,
etc.) You can only get them online or at a LEGO store, so any Monkie Kid MF

^ This.

However, I think that many of the LEGO stores in the U.S. (maybe all?) don't
even carry the Monkie Kid theme in store at all. As far as I know, it is online
only in the U.S. which makes it extremely hard for it to be seen and bought by
the key demographic: kids and their parents walking through department stores
or LEGO stores.

I heard through the grapevine at my local LEGO store that the Monkie Kid theme
pretty much bombed in the U.S., so it really isn't a surprise that anything
Monkie Kid related would be hard to come by here as compared to residing somewhere
in Asia.

Out of curiosity. Why just buy the Minifigures and not the sets?

I make stop-motion videos and the sets are often too large to film, but the mininfigures
are still good for it.
