There's no rule that says you can't install a dishwasher, but many older
buildings don't have them and sometimes there's not much room to put
one, anyway.
It's not too bad, but I can't blame the OP's wife for wanting a new
dishwasher, especially if she's the one doing most of the dishes.
Commercial pizza ovens are, however, mandatory in all new housing units.

Thanks for the suggestion, but there's not much incentive to invest in home
improvement when people move around a lot and don't stay in the same place
for very long. Plus, I really do need that extra 40-60 cm of cabinet space.

going for the past eleven years. It's on wheels and rolls to the sink where
you attach the hose to the sink faucet and the power cord to the outlet.
It works well; it isn't that much more of a hassle moving it compared to
built-in ones.
