| Hi everyone
Having been a seller for just two weeks I am still finding my feet and today
I realised I think I might have misunderstood how the shipping works. My shop
is set up so that buyers just pick items then pay upfront using Paypal. I am
in the UK so I have set up the Royal Mail options for large letter and small
parcel, as well as international parcels.
I recently had a buyer purchase a part which is quite large, but they obviously
(as you would) selected the cheapest shipping, which allows parcels up to 25mm
only. My question is whether it is possible to restrict the shipping options
available for a particular item as (and I could definitely be incorrect here)
my understanding is that the customer is just guessing and selecting the postage
they think is suitable, giving me no control over that.
In most cases its not a problem as most parts are very small but I wondered how
more experienced sellers get around being out of pocket on larger orders, or
orders with larger parts in them.
Any advice would be gratefully received!
Thank you
Debbie

Hello Debbie,
As Nubs suggested, you can add dimension restrictions to your shipping methods
to prevent buyers from inadvertently choosing the wrong shipping method.
To do so, go to your store settings and click on the shipping tab: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/mystore/shipping.page
Then, click on the name of the shipping method that you want to edit and scroll
down to where it says Restrictions and Adjustments. You might have to
play around with the settings to get it to work the way you want, and I believe
though I am not certain that BrickLink allows sellers to create a second account
in order to test their own store's shipping methods.
Alternatively, you can force certain items to be manual-only. If the buyer adds
a manual-only item to their cart and tries to check out, they will have to request
an invoice before they can pay. You can them compute the shipping cost manually
before sending the invoice.
To do so, go to your store settings and click on the management tab: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/mystore/management.page
Scroll down to where it says Checkout and check the box to Use invoice
when an order can not be placed with Instant Checkout.
Then, scroll down to where it says Store / Inventory Options and check
the box to Enable my weight and my packing dimensions on each item for sale.
Then, locate the item in your inventory: https://www.bricklink.com/inventory.asp
And select Manual Only from the drop-down menu under Pkg Type.
Hope that helps.
