Hello all.
I'm new here on bricklink.
I have come across some sellers who have some lego set for sale without pictures
off the items.
And when I ask for pictures they don't have, and can't get any.
Is that normal in here, or should i stay away. I mean, who will buy something
for 1000 usd or more without having seen it first.
Kind regards.

Some sellers simply don’t provide photos even if it’s an expensive item as their
are many buyers who simply want photos and never actually buy anything and taking
good photos that will be of help can be quite a bit of work so in General many
stores just never get involved with photos so if the seller has good feedback
I’d not be to worried

There are at least two reasons for this (possibly more) …

The seller has no way to know if the person asking is legitimate, or if they
want a clean image, that the search engines have never seen before, to
run a scam as a make-believe seller.

If the seller wanted to provide a picture, it should not be on a private basis,
but should be posted to the lot offer, so that the search engines can index it
here, and know the provenance of the image. I might also suggest that the seller
watermark the image with their store name.

About a week back, I noticed a listing that another seller had, with a custom
image. It said that it was the actual image of the set on offer. The lot said
quantity 3. 🤔

Are you looking for photos of the box? How much do you expect to learn from the
photo? If it's a sealed set, then you know what's included. It it's
a used set, then it's up to the seller to describe exactly the contents.
A photo is not going to show you the precise condition any more then a good description
from a trusted seller.

Do your homework, read the seller's terms and check their feedback carefully.
(Both sent and received.) Make sure you use a payment process that has buyer
protections. Then, you don't need photos anymore.

I will provide photos when requested for high value items.

But seeing that you are a new buyer sellers are more then likely to ignore you
as 99% of people asking for photos don't commit to buying, regardless of
condition. they ask you provide and then never hear from them again

one of the main problems i have seen on some of the groups i am in are people
asking for photos and using them to scam people online as in facebook market
place and such, so with some sellers might have caught on with that and are trying
to reduce others with being scammed that is my observation from viewing so many
scam posts reported in one of the groups i am in, so now i have detoured myself
from social media on buying lego items unless they are local. don't get me
wrong i feel if you are serious about the item maybe they should imprint their
store name on picture, not sure if that would help but i guess if you get burnt
a time or two to end up learning.

Most sellers know that people that need photos, especially for sealed items,
never result in a sale. As someone said below, if it's a sealed set, you're
going to get a picture of a box that is basically identical to the boxes in the
images.

Unless you're buying it for the box, which probably should have been in your
request.

I have some loose complete sets in my store and have had people asking for photos,
and I've said "what are you looking for, a picture of a bag with lego
in it?"

A bit as the others said, Sets are usually not pictured to show their content.

As if they're sealed, then they can't be opened.

But if not, a picture wouldn't help, as you may see only a picture of the
first layer, and only a part of the bags, the ones on the top, so you'd need
tens and tens of pictures in order to "be sure". But then again, if it's
an Used set, the quality of the parts is a main concern, and you won't see
this on a general picture.

In short, it's quite "normal" you don't get "general"
pictures.

But but, as you're relatively new here, DO NOT acquire huge amounts of Sets,
Parts, whatever, WITHOUT:

* using PayPal for the payment (no IBAN/SEPA...)

* a BrickLink order (do not buy by e-mail or message directly with a seller)

* watch and read closely the seller Feedback profile, especially Neutral and
Negative ones

* read well his/her Shop Terms

And in case of any doubt, ask in forum, you'll get some help.

But please do so before investing big $$$

Hello again. Thanks for all your replies. I have definitely learned more about
the seller's view of it.
in my case, I'm very interested in pictures because I'm a collector of
old sets, and I care a lot about the box being as nice as possible, and therefore
don't want to buy something I haven't seen. and new and sealed is not
a good enough description for me if I have to pay 1500 usd for a set.
