| Was a bit surprised to find these items didn't come up when searching for

There is some differences between a Sailor and a Captain. A Sailor wears a white
canvas hat with an upright brim, often referred to as a "Dixie cup".
while a Captain would wear a similar hat to as shown in the images. The part
is well described for what it is, since it is a hat worn by a Captain and not
a Sailor which is a common misunderstanding.

A Sailor and a Captain are both jobs in the Navy with uniforms. But also anyone
who sails is a sailor and anyone who owns a boat can get a Captain's license
and be Captain of their boat. It is reasonably likely that is ex-Navy.
I don't expect Joe Shopper be awfully up to speed on what is a captain and
what is a sailor though. I would totally support sailor being in the names of
those items.

He is just the captain of a fishing boat, isn't he? I don't recall any
Navy memorabilia in the old fishing shack to link him to the navy.

I didn't mean to establish a link. I felt like I was being charitous. This
old man does not command a ship anymore. He runs a shop next to the sea. He
is captain of nothing. But he still wears his captain hat. I think it is reasonably
likely that he was in the Navy and is wistful of those old days.
But the rest of my point is that he isn't in the Navy anymore. If anyone
calls him Captain now, it is out of respect or familiarity. He might be a sailor,
though, in his time off.

He is the master of his fate, the captain of his soul.

That kinda sounds like a literary quote, but I think most lore would agree that
he is the captain of his ship, but the sea is the master of his fate.

Here, captains of pleasure boats wear that type of hat partly, I think, to show
they are in charge. Same for any rich bloke with a boat.

In which case I will have to remember to type "Captain fishing boat"
next time I need to find him? But wait that still doesn't bring him up and
do you realize how many Captains are in the catalog?
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/search.page?q=captain#T=A
Captain Sailor would seem more appropriate given how many people are likely to
associate him as a sailor of sorts. Captain alone is very generic term. Captain
of what? the Redcoats? the Pirates? America?
Besides a sailor can be referred to as anyone associated with boats and being
at sea be that for recreational purposes or being a fishing boat captain which
seems to sum up this guy pretty well

Isn't anyone in the navy a sailor, though? At least to people outside of
the navy. I wouldn't expect your average BrickLink user to be familiar with
U.S. naval ranks and uniforms.

If Anton (is that his name?) was a Captain in the Navy, he would definitely not
let anyone call him a sailor, because to him that would sound like he wasn't
a Captain.
But yes, I am not surprised by a random shopper searching for sailor. The original
post is a case in point, right?

The LEGO Group's description of the set reads:
"Includes 4 minifigures: a captain, fisherman, fisherwoman and a child, plus
cat and 3 seagull figures."
Basically, the minifigures for this set were named appropriately according to
the above.
However, once again, we are left in a situation that would be better left to
a tag system. I don't foresee that ever happening, though, so I have added
"Sailor" to the descriptions of the items.
Cheers,
Randy
P.S. The names of the following minifigures will not be changed:
