Hello,

I have a torso that looks exactly like 973p41 but it is black. The BL catalog
entry for 973p41 shows only Blue and Red as valid colors. The part does not have
'LEGO' stamped on the top of the neck post.

Is there any way to know if I have a legitimate part or a knock off?

Thanks,
-Tim

That would be a pretty giant stretch of "looks exactly like"

I wouldn't be shocked if that variant existed on a part this old. Does it
look old? Short ribs? Someone could make a knockoff NOW, but they probably
couldn't do it in the 80s.

True! If it is not this one, it is pretty save to say it is a knockoff.

I misread your inital post. If the part DOES NOT HAVE the Lego stamp on the
neck, it is probably a knockoff, yes.

Yes, it doesn't have LEGO stamped on the neck post = it's a knockoff

Post a photo with the top of the neck stud clearly visible. I'm sure it will
be revealed to be a knockoff.

Has anyone else come across variants that had an injection mold pip on the LEGO
logo, making it hard to see? I ask because I'm sure I can remember at least
a few torsos with mold pips that made it hard to properly make out the LEGO logo.

Cheers ...
