| Hi!
I got my first order and shipped it out today. I tried to mark it as shipped
but I don’t have that option.
What am I doing wrong?

Was the payment made Onsite? Does the order show as Paid?
Click on Edit Order on the bottom of the Order Detail page and have a look at
the info at the top of that screen.

It says on-site but it is not showing up as paid. There’s quite a learning curve,

How was the payment made ? Was it Paypal or Stripe? I'd check those places
first to make sure you got the payment . First thing I do when I receive an order
is to check the payment status where the payment came from. If it was Paypal,
it should have an entry in your Paypal account showing the payment, what was
paid for the order, the shipping, any state taxes, etc. Then I ship the order
. The order should say "Paid ". If it wasn't paid, then you don't
ship it.

Sorry, I just assumed you received a payment on Paypal so you knew to ship the

Looks like your buyer may have paid offsite, meaning the taxes aren’t going where
they’re supposed to.
One way to check for this is in PayPal.
Is there a line that says “partner fee”?
This would be the state tax that BrickLink collects on your behalf.
If that line is not there, your buyer paid offsite.
If that is the case, you will need to refund the buyer and have him pay via PayPal
on-site (through BrickLink).

+1 they may have selected PayPal onsite but never actually paid onsite. If they
paid onsite then that’s tax fraud… hopefully you can work it out with the buyer
but yah it has to be paid onsite and you can easily tell if it has as it auto
updates to paid so you know they have paid onsite

This is not always the case as I have had customers in the past pay offsite even
including the said tax. Most have said they did that because for some reason
the onsite pay button wasn't working at the time of payment! Trouble is that
you don't get the paperwork from Bricklink that says they paid the tax when
its offsite so its much better making the payment onsite.
Some other payment methods don't show the 'shipped status' if your
order is set to 'packed'. 'Bank deposit' is one method I know
of. One way to fix that is mark in back to 'paid' then mark it as 'shipped'
as it should be there.
Brett.

Meaning you revived tax money that was supposed to go to bricklink who legally
remits it… meaning tax fraud since legally no one can remit it any other way
as of now when bricklink is supposed to collect it… it dosnt have be intentional
to be “illegal” unless bricklinks collection of sales tax in Australia is different

Australia works like the VAT countries: if it’s domestic, BrickLink doesn’t collect,
if it’s imported and below a threshold (AUD 1,000), then BL collects.
But BL only started collecting last month.
So it’s not clear if maxlego is talking about {Australian GST} or {US sales tax
or UK/EU VAT} and whether it was recent or not (well, nigh on 3 years for sales
tax now).

| Man, you must be tired or have some gripe or something! The couple that did it
was a few years ago and they were European orders. Last one that did it, I just
told him that I couldn't accept that payment and had to refund him because
if I don't receive the payment onsite, I don't get the necessary paperwork
from Bricklink to ship his order. He understood and tried again which worked
as he tried the first time and the onsite pay button wasn't working for him
so that's why he paid offsite the first time.
Been trading here far too long to try and swipe a few measly dollars from the
government in Australia and also governments outside of Australia for that matter
Brett.

Is there someone that I can reach out to that can look things over and see exactly
what went on? BrinkLink added the tax, order summary says that it was paid by

The order summary only shows how the buyer chose to pay, not how the buyer actually

No, there is not. Thank you so much for showing me (and other newbies) what we

Well, what I would do is:
1 - refund the buyer for the sales tax amount (if any) he or she paid, since
you don't have a way of remitting it
2 - since the order is not yet paid, apply a credit to it of the amount the buyer
did pay
3 - send the buyer an invoice for whatever amount is left over ... not sure what
happens if that amount is zero
Also - there are some states that don't have a sales tax for online purchases
(or at all). If the buyer is in one of these states (e.g., DE, MS, OR) then there's
nothing to worry about.

Since you shipped it out, there isn't much else you can do . It's possible it is a state where there is no sales tax - not all states have sales tax. Try not to beat yourself up. One thing to think about is that you may wish to have a store email address which does not track to your Paypal account. This eliminates the possibility that a buyer could pay offsite and send money to your Paypal email address. I keep mine separate. my store email address is NOT my Paypal email. One thing you don't mention is whether you have Order status and payment status as 2 separate entries on your order page. If. this isn't the way your order page is set up- follow the directions below .
|
" You can change the status of each order to paid by default when an order
has been paid for. You can also separate the payment status from the order status
which will give you more status options for the payment. To do this, select the
"Separate order payment status from order status" option in your Orders
Settings page. Each order will then have its own payment status drop-down selection
box separate from the order status. After this option is selected, you will be
able to change the status of your existing orders from paid but the option to
change the order status to paid will not be available."

Please don't feel like this is entirely your fault. There are sellers here
with 1000's of feedback who still don't understand the implications of
the tax and Onsite payments. Also, there is a warning right at the top of invoices
to buyers telling them NOT to pay off-site if they checked out with Onsite payment.
BrickLink does not have a way for you to remit taxes after the fact. So, I would
write a quick message to your buyer explaining the issue and asking if they are
willing to work with you to pay properly. If they don't understand, you can
direct them to this thread. I would also be happy to send a brief explanation
if you think it would help.
Take care,
~Jen

Also:
Use a different email address for BL than for PayPal. That at least will prevent
someone trying to send a PayPal payment to your BL email address.

If BrickLink added tax to a transaction, and you accepted payment offsite or
with another method, then you are now in possession of the tax payment. BrickLink
doesn't get the money any other way but Onsite payment.
Paying offsite for a non-taxed transaction is not a problem.

I got my first order and shipped it out today. I tried to mark it as shipped
but I don’t have that option.
What am I doing wrong?

I would just contact BrickLink and let them know what happened and ask how to
remedy the situation. If they respond and things get fixed, great. But if they
dont then I would just let the order stay marked as pending or what ever else
and move on. You will have done your due diligence (I would imagine the tax collected
was probably not that much?). Once your customer gets his order he probably wont
care that his order is still marked as pending or packed especially if you let
him know why.

BrickLink has made an official announcement regarding this:
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1401495
Contacting BL will likely result in this seller being warned about payment evasion.
It's really not okay for sellers to keep tax payments.

I sent a message to the Help Desk first thing this morning and I got a ticket
number so hopefully this can be worked out soon. This buyer originally wanted
to pay through PayPal and not through BrickLink but I refused because it violates
the terms that I agreed to. When I sent the invoice and the buyer paid it, I
thought everything was good and it was just a communication issue. If I get to
keep my store, I’m going to use another email address. I think that’s a great
suggestion.
I’m waiting to hear from BrickLink at this point and will follow through with
their instructions.
Thank you all for your responses. I love how supportive you guys are.
