| Why don’t more sellers with manual invoicing allow Quote requests?
I learned the hard way to do this through messaging ahead of time, but I am curious
as to why more people don’t offer it.

As you technically haven't agreed to charges you haven't seen yet, aren't
all of them quote requests? Certainly seems that way with people complaining
about buyers not wanting to pay after they see the shipping charges on the invoice.

Not really, since a seller can't start an NPB if a would-be buyer rejects
a quote request, but can if the buyer places an order, balks at the shipping
cost, and doesn't pay. And 3 completed NPBs means you lose your buyer privileges.

Bricklink calls them legally binding orders.
Telling a buyer what the costs are before they order is certainly good practice,
whether through IC or a table in the terms or an order.

I suspect it is because many don't know the feature exists or don't know
to go turn it on. It is off by default. The seller tools and settings are a bit
of a labyrinth wouldn't you agree?
Personally, when I have sent a query to a seller and I mention that feature,
I get back a question about what it is and how to turn it on.
Here is a well-written message that explains how to turn on Quotes if you want
to share it with your sellers too:

Not sure why they don't use it other then I agree it's not easy to find
and turn on.
I prefer when I get a quote request so that I don't have to cancel an order
and return items to inventory.
I still get new users purchasing and not using the quote feature but it's
just because they are not familiar with it. About 85 percent of those that use
it accept the quote, mostly overseas buyers are the ones that don't accept
due to freight prices.

| Thanks everyone! This all makes sense. Cancelling an order I placed, after
getting a ridiculous shipping cost on an invoice, was what made me question why
more sellers don’t offer it. I now message ahead of time LOL.
I hope more people figure it out. As a seller, I have never had anyone say no
after I sent a them quote, and I feel like it is a great tool. That way they
have the chance to opt out if it is too much for them. Seems sensible. And
if they do opt out, that’s totally fine and helpful to both.

I reckon lack of knowing they can offer quotes. Just like the lack of knowing
they can do instant checkout. And the lack of knowing they need to have an onsite
payment method if tax is due. So many threads from US buyers asking why doesn't
a US seller ship to me indicate the last point.

We have quote request set up but we also have as a shipping option named as "Quote
Request" that we set up before BrickLink offered it as a feature. We get
about half the customers that want to get a quote use the BrickLink Quote Request
to get a quote and the other half choose the shipping method labeled "Quote
Request". When people choose the latter one and dont follow thru with the
order then we just cancel the order after a while.
So if a store does not want to hassle trying to figure out how to set up Quote
Requests then they can just set up a shipping option labeled Quote Request and
just make sure it will apply to all possible orders so it is always an option
that shows up for customes to choose during the checkout process.
Jim.
