After years of being active in this forum (to a certain degree), we made the
decision to step back from it a while back (and to be fair also from other social
media forums) as it has become a lot more negative in tone and the benefits that
we once enjoyed extracting from it (some members shared some really valuable
insights and some shared detailed analysis of trends on Bricklink and other cool
info...) were no longer here. The insights turned into complaints, the gratitude
for this amazing site turned into members bashing BL and it's admin and employees,
the analysis reports manipulated the data to come to conclusions that were biased,
and helpful suggestions were ridiculed (I believe we made the first suggestion
to require new sellers to receive at least one feedback as a buyer before being
able to open a shop to eradicate new scam accounts- we were ridiculed- we were
shocked to see it implemented many months after). Suggestions and promises made
to sellers (like allowing seller to use their reseller certificates) years ago
have yet to materialize.
So bottom line- we found that our participation in this forum was not beneficial
to us or the community and has wasted resources (mainly time) that could have
been put to better use.
Regardless; I personally (and i think my team here at the shop would agree) have
a lot of respect for people like you who are still putting the effort to make
this forum better and more productive.
We wish you and like minded members lots of luck in your quest to make this forum
more appealing to the community.
Have a great week ahead,
THB

| I have not mocked or ridiculed the participants! Also, I have not participated
in this "vote" because I think it is superfluous.
However, one can not remain silent on this statement!
At the moment there are 1 352 197 members. Of these, 16 participants have voted,
with 4 voting for something that was not actually on the ballot. Ergo, that leaves
12 participants. That is ~0.001% of the total membership. How can you speak of
a will of the community there?
Never believe a statistic or list that you have not falsified yourself.

yes you are correct you drew a conclusion of 'Ridiculous' from the results
of the Poll.
stating "what community " afterwards is downplaying the paricipation
of those members who chose an option. Mocking them in a " whatever , who
cares what they think" mentality...
that is deeming their voices Unimportant.
please refrain from mocking or harrassing participants of Community Polls conducted

ended with Exclamation points.
Exclamation Point:

: a mark ! used especially after an interjection or exclamation to indicate
forceful utterance or strong feeling.

Given the absurdly low overall numbers representing about .001% of the community,
I suggest you cancel this post, because there aren't enough results to count
it as a valid poll yet.
A few members have given their opinions on this poll, very few have actually
voted.
Either release a new poll or let this current poll run for a much longer time
frame.
This is not a result, as you called it. This is a statistical nightmare, and
I was taught statistics in math class at school that was about 35 years ago!
Your post is only your opinion on what you think of the poll results, and is
not, by any means, the 'big picture'. It is just one pixel out of millions
of pixels.
Cheers ...

D) ban Zero Feedback Members from posting URL Links in the Forum.
E) allow Zero Feedback Members Limited Forum Access that is a Moderator Only

Results
A) 10% of members chose this option
B) 33% of members chose this option
D) 57% of members chose this option.
not to disregard member ideas, there were several topic inspried options created
as well.
in general, something needs to be done according to the Communiity,
the Majority of members who voiced their opinions would prefer either:
D) an across the board Ban on new members being able to post URL's in forum
posts.
or
B) new members be required to have at least 1 positive feedback before having
Forum Access posting abilities.
thanks to everyone who participated & stuck to the boundries of the poll rule-set.

Ah this.
I don't see Cancelled messages, there's an option for this in Forum Settings.
And they won't delete them anyway; they've to keep the original in case
of Moderation problem or any legal issue after something is posted...
It's not possible to remove them simply.
Of course there could be a special option for them like "Completely hide
this post", but spaghetti code bla bla...

Interesting that you left out the votes that said "None of the above",

Also, you are counting 12 out of 16 votes in response to a message that was viewed

To be clear...
I do not think that spam is delicious.
I do think that poll options B, C, D and E will actually hurt the community
here, because I believe that these restrictions are unhealthy and will have a
negative impact on the inflow of new participants. I estimate that damage to
be much larger than the current inconvenience of spam.

feel free to choose an option to participate in the Poll.
uodates will be provided.
maybe some of the options should have been encouraging Spam or extending rewards
for Spam...
options included doing nothing ( option A) or detailed various options to deal
with the Spam ( options b,c,d,e)
not sure how options like 'do nothing' vs a selection of 'do something's'
is this steering a poll in a certain direction... but , ok..
the Majority of members who voiced their opinions by choosing an option got their
voice recognized. as per the Poll Perameters rule-set
you are free to partiocipate in this poll right now, or you can choose not too..
thanks & remember Your voice can be recognized as well by choosing a Poll option.

Your option A is not neutral.
It is "I love spam".
By the way you phrase that, you make sure that people will not vote for "do

Is spam a way to hack a site? If so, there should me tight controls. Bricklink
was hacked one time and while nothing was done to BL that we know of, the hacker
did say that they could get on other sites with the information gleaned from
BL. I think that the answer should be whatever makes BL safer.

In the same way someone putting leaflets in the mailbox in front of your house
can take possession of your house.
Well, maybe not the best analogy: I guess that may work with you if they are
advertising naked Barbies and they are asking for your house in exchange
The main problems with spam are (in no particular order):
1. flooding: when there’s so many spam that you can’t see the genuine
messages or that the system flounders under the load.
2. Scams: some people may think that they are genuine offers for genuine
products by genuine sellers.
3. The site’s image: bad image for a site to leave spam/scam live (especially
if (2) happens).
The problem for BL is mostly (3).

the poll was conducted for 1 week, all members were allowed to choose an option.
some are choosing to not participate. the Poll is not intended to force all members
to choose an option. it is a voluntary poll.
let's use an example scenario:
Boss walks into office: " free Donuts everyone!" & sets boxes of donuts
on the table, everyone has the choice to go over & get a donut for free.
some employees walk over to the table & start complaining there are not any Croissants
or pop-tarts. stating their boss sucks for not doing exactly what they wanted
instead of a generalized 'gift for all'. so disgruntled croissant wanters
& pop-tart fans just stand there telling everyone who wants a donut how much
it isn't fair.
those who chose to participate had their voices recognized.
option A was the Do Nothing option. options b,c,d,e were Do Something options.
poll options did not include an option F, while user created options did occur
and a few of these options were self proclaimed option F, F was not a poll option.
thus no calculation was needed, but those other options were recognized.
feel free to participate now, updates will be provided,

| yes , we accomplished conducting a Poll here.
while a few didn't vote at all & turned it into a discussion topic, many
members did participate & voted the option they would want initiated within the
Community in regards to Spam & The Forum.
|
A few didn't vote? This cracks me up as there are 1,353,547 registered members.
Only 16 voted and only 12 of those voters actually chose a letter.
| here is the original Poll as a refresher & the Results.
"Poll:
Which option would you prefer as a Spamming Solution
A? nothing, Raw Spam is Delicious!
B) require a Pay-To-Play Positive Feedback, similar to the Seller Requirement
C) require new users to be Verified by some Official Secondary means w/ Bricklink.
D) ban Zero Feedback Members from posting URL Links in the Forum.
E) allow Zero Feedback Members Limited Forum Access that is a Moderator Only
visiblie / Replies Enabled post"
|
What about an option F) None of the above. This option would make this vote a
much better example of a vote.
I would recommend running the vote for 1 month to get a better representation
of the "communities" opinion on the matter.
BTW, I did not vote because I do not feel that any of the options are the correct
way to go. Add an option F) and I will.

the poll was conducted for 1 week, all members were allowed to choose an option.
some are choosing to not participate. the Poll is not intended to force all members
to choose an option. it is a voluntary poll.
let's use an example scenario:

This whole thread is worse than the actual spam.

thank you Bricklink Representative for your input.
Members of this Community having a civil conversation about a problem with something
on bricklink should not be frowned upon nor dismissed with negativity.
we are ..*cough*, hoping, people like yourself, Bricklink Representatives, will
see The Community finds the Spamming issue as a problem and want something done
about it & possibly you, Bricklink Representtaives, can enact something.
thank you for whatever you can accommplish in regards to Spam regulating .
We are a Civilized Lego Community
Together, Brick-by-Brick, we can Build a Solution.
|
I can't do anything about it. I am just a volunteer who has no access to
site code.
However, I do know that the problem is being discussed by BrickLink staff who
can do something about it.

| What bothers me the most is that this topic has been talked about for a while
now & we've heard nothing from the admins about having the spam resolved
- it'd be nice if they'd at least chime in and acknowledge the issue
so everyone could stop arguing over potential solutions, it's ridiculous
|
We noticed an uptick in the spam a couple months ago and actually put together
a chart for May that showed this. We are in discussion with our prodcut teams
about the best way of handling this without chilling our newest members.
As most of you know, when a spam post is discovered / reported, our Discussions
Moderators will cancel the post and banning the user from the Forum. However,
our customer service team still needs to anonymize the username and ban the account
from the system. So we are very aware of the spam problem since we handle each
case manually.

| What does this have to do with your survey?
The way it's done has been done for years. When a problem accumulates, you
naturally think about a solution.
So don't pin a medal on yourself for something you contributed absolutely
nothing to.
