Until we have a working tag system it would be helpful if minifigure descriptions
also included the species so that they can be located and identified in one place
using this search criteria alone

For instance many people will know this is a Wookiee, yet how many people will
know the name let alone how to spell it correctly?

Minifig No: sw0626  Name: Wullffwarro
*
sw0626 (Inv) Wullffwarro
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Rebels

I therefore think we should always try to include the species in brackets

Wullffwarro (Wookiee)

Minifig No: sw0530 Name: Chief Tarfful
*
sw0530 (Inv) Chief Tarfful
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 3
Chief Tarfful (Wookiee)

Minifig No: sw0328  Name: Wald
*
sw0328 (Inv) Wald
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 1
Wald (Rodian)

Minifig No: sw0241 Name: Onaconda Farr
*
sw0241 (Inv) Onaconda Farr
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars The Clone Wars
Onaconda Farr (Rodian)

Minifig No: sw0639 Name: Captain Tarpals
*
sw0639 (Inv) Captain Tarpals
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 1
Captain Tarpals (Gungan)

Minifig No: lor079  Name: Thranduil
*
lor079 (Inv) Thranduil
Minifigures: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: The Hobbit
Thranduil (Elf)

Minifig No: lor020  Name: Haldir
*
lor020 (Inv) Haldir
Minifigures: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: The Lord of the Rings
Haldir (Elf)

Minifig No: lor107 Name: Dain Ironfoot
*
lor107 (Inv) Dain Ironfoot
Minifigures: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies
Dain Ironfoot (Dwarf)

Minifig No: lor025  Name: Lurtz
*
lor025 (Inv) Lurtz
Minifigures: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: The Lord of the Rings
Lurtz (Uruk-Hai)

Besides we already appear to have done this for certain species like Ewoks:-

Wouldn’t help me as I don’t usually know their name or species, a few exceptions,
but agree it would help many.

Like lots of different terms used in the catalog its one of those things you
get to learn though. For instance I've never properly watched Harry Potter
apart from a few bits from the first two films but still have an understanding
of what a Dementor looks like:-

Seconded for the Star Wars Minifigs, especially since many of the aliens are
fairly obscure characters for casual fans.

Wookiees are fairly recognisable (due to Chewbacca), while Wullffwarro only appeared
in one episode of Star Wars Rebels (the series premiere). I do concede
that some species are far more obscure than others, though!

That was my point. Casual fans may know "Wookiee" and "Ewok",
but not "Rodian" or "Twi'lek". However, I do like the
idea. This is a perfect example of why the system needs tags.

I think we may make this one a reality, but please do not do anything as of yet.
We are swamped with work right now and do not have the time for this.

Cheers,
Randy

I realise that you are joking, but adding Clone's numbers would mess with
the search function (since a search for set it part numbers such as 1004 or 7567
would return unwanted results).

I think it is a good idea. Admin will like the idea better if someone is volunteering
to make the change requests.

Anyone can submit change requests.

This isn't a 'one' request change though. It requires someone to
be able to carry out a proper overhaul of the descriptions unhindered

We could break things up by species, movie/show, affiliation, etc.

Besides we already appear to have done this for certain species like Ewoks:-
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/search.page?q=ewok&type=M&tab=A#T=A

That would create problems for characters represented by minifigures like Yoda.
In the Star Wars movies, his species has intentionally been kept unknown by George
Lucas. He liked the mystery and intrigue this created about the character of
Yoda.

There may be other characters represented in this way so it's best to include
a designation of unknown in the species if you're planning on adding them.

See this Fandom page for more information on Yoda's species, which, coincidentally,
is known as exactly that: "Yoda's species":

Well I think its safe to say this is all about providing species information
that is known/useful rather than being overly concerned with trying to add species
info that is unknown or hard to source besides which I would go as far as to
say there is no need to add 'Human' to every human character and it may
not be necessary to add the species name where only one known character of that
species exists in Lego form For instance the character Sebulba may not need to
be defined by species unless another character of same species comes along in
which case adding 'Dug' to both entries may be beneficial but I wouldn't
be against it being added though it won't be of much use to anyone for search
purposes unless the character is just as well know by their species as their
actual name

Phew! Take a breath. Please use punctuation. I almost ran out of breath reading

This only affects Yoda and Grogu (and Yaddle, if we ever get a Minifig of her);
all other characters have named species.

Yes, no...

In your list Paploo isn't a specie, it's his name?
https://www.starwars.com/databank/paploo

So why?

Minifig No: sw0067 Name: Ewok, Tan Hood (Paploo)
*
sw0067 (Inv) Ewok, Tan Hood (Paploo)
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 4/5/6

And is separating species a modern concept, I mean, like in 2023???

Frankly, I'm far from a SW pro, but I do like some characters, and don't
care for their specie (if any, because even this can be difficult).

Being an Ewok or a Whatever shouldn't be important.

As written, I'm not for differentiating "species" on SW.

Sure!

But then what else shoud we add to be convenient after specie: skin color, sex,
religion?

I don't wish this to be political, but differentiating isn't a 'modern'
concept.

  The point I'm meaning is: it's Paploo.

Being an Ewok or a Whatever shouldn't be important.

except it is since if i look at that guy I'm not thinking oh that's paploo
I'm thinking oh that's an ewok but if ewok wasn't in the name and
i search it up then id get confused if i didn't know that it was for sure
lego and would end up spending more time trying to figure out what exactly it

Are you suggesting that we should include “Jedi” and “Sith” in Minifig names
as well (though this would pose some issues for sw0452), or are you saying that
including fictional species names in titles is somehow racist?

I don't know - but we can have doubts about who's "Jedi" or "Sith"
for some, and depending of the period - maybe.

Should be say that Nubs is a Canuck and Ghyde an Aussie?

Personnaly, I'd say Nubs is Nubs and Ghyde is a pita
Or the opposite

The point is, it's differentiating individuals on some group arbitrary criteria.

OK pals, sorry for the rant, I'm not for this; but I'm not a SW fan,
and sure the Catalog people do their best to help people find what they wish,
which is fine for me.
I'm off

No more arbitrary than the differentiation between

it only is if one makes it but adding the species name in the title is very helpful
unlike those other ones

  Besides we already appear to have done this for certain species like Ewoks:-

Yes, no...

In your list Paploo isn't a specie, it's his name?
https://www.starwars.com/databank/paploo

So why?

Minifig No: sw0067 Name: Ewok, Tan Hood (Paploo)
*
sw0067 (Inv) Ewok, Tan Hood (Paploo)
Minifigures: Star Wars: Star Wars Episode 4/5/6

Its not my list it just happens to appear among my 'Ewok' search results
but I think you already realsie that? Either way isn't it obvious?.... that
entry simply needs to be altered in line with the other Ewok entries and this
is by no means the only one!
