Both versions have a map on the back of the instructions. The picture in the
catalog matches neither instruction. The larger version has an advertisement
box in the upper middle saying "www.LEGO.com" "Join the Fun"
box, and the smaller version has a white border. Neither version match the picture
in the catalog.

The current catalog image was likely copied from the official digital version
of the instructions, which does not seem to be available anymore from LEGO.com,
but can still be seen here:
http://www.peeron.com/scans/6720-1/
If you can provide scans or good photographs (maybe with less light refections
than in your first image) of the physical instructions, please upload them here:
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogImageAdd.page?itemType=I
We can add multiple instructions images, but please don't upload a second
image before the first image has been approved, otherwise the first image will
be overwritten.

I can use a copy machine to make good pictures. Which version is the offical
instructions (or are both). I need to know which version you want me to upload
for the catalog photo. I can do both versions, with the back if requested.

Please submit images of both versions if possible, and start with the version
with the lower number as that will be the new main image.
The back is not needed.
Thanks!

I believe the smaller instruction you have does match the catalog. The picture
in the catalog was cropped to take out the white border.
It is most likely the instructions found in the initial release of the set.
Unfortunately, the catalog does not allow more than 1 picture for instructions.
I hope someday that will change as there are quite a few sets that have alternate
instructions.

I agree, the smaller image seems to match, but based on the item number the larger
image was probably produced immediately after the smaller image and were released
at the same time.
