Hey Everyone,

We sent a message in here a couple weeks ago trying to get API access to work
on a school project. Now that finals are over here are our results if anyone
is interested.

https://github.com/alexracape/lego-learner

Most of the information is in poster.pdf

Thanks for the help and shoutout to Darkcorner64 for helping us with the API
process!

Have you gotten a final grade on this yet? If so, what was it.

Just some observations from a biased (I am a seller) observer:

A brick separator is not a set it is a part, and barring extreme inflation I
highly doubt it will obtain anywhere near the predicted 58,900% appreciation.
I would be concerned that this result many have skewed your overall returns.
Plus if we have extreme inflation, people will not be buying much Lego.

IMO, the Luke Skywalker landspeeder at an 18.35% annualized ROI is not going
to make it worth it due to other overhead (storage, insurance, etc.)

Past results do not indicate future performance.

Under trading experiments there is an incomplete sentence:
Slightly biased metric that highlights more popular sets from

What was the complete sentence?

TIL, brickset has an API.

Thanks for sharing your results.

Don't know the machine learning paradigms, but if a brick separator comes
out as a 'must buy!' in order to obtain profits, there needs to be some
tweaking left .

Nice project to run though, and much learned I am sure!!!
Thanks for the heads up and sharing; especially the poster.

You probably need another step in your selection process to avoid choosing sets
that have small numbers or single cheap and plentiful parts. Predicting 60000%
increase in price for the brick separator set really flags an issue with your
methods.

It's very nice and a good work you did in collecting and implementing this;
congratulations!

But I may learn as an extra (?) info that improper data* may produce biased,
erroneous up to silly results.

And that an human analysis of the result** may show you that either data or model,
or both, are simply wrong.

If it's going to be a part of your job in the future, I'd pay attention
to those points

* Like accounting basic sets of 1968 - a bit like trying to model the today's
general car industry we'd calculate on the Ford-T or the Porsche 911 data...

** There's no way a Brick Separator will increase in value, apart if LEGO
suddenly shuts down, but this can't be predicted, and even then ALL the parts
will increase in value a lot. And the possibility a Star Wars Set have a better
value in the future is so obvious to almost everyone that it must be roughly
correct, but it's unfortunately not showing the model is correct

Wishing you the best!

Oh shoot!  I was almost done setting up my plan to become rich with real brick

non-fungible virtual brick separators.

Don't worry - my Natural Stupidity told me once to acquire 130,000 Technic
Pins!

Part No: 2780 Name: Technic, Pin with Short Friction Ridges

The (only) good point I'll never have a shortage on this lot.

No-no, all in the LEGO spirit!

Here’s my business plan so far:
1. ?
2. ??
3. ???
4. Profit!

Maybe I can convince you and the business acumen you proved with the pin story
to participate in this venture?

That seems very fine to me!

Only a couple of points are to be precised later on, but real business men don't
care about details.

OK... but quickly!!

Because end of the month my banker will discover our current Debit Card debt
(shhhh), so we've to act fast

Oh, I was scared for a minute: I thought it was your CFO (Sabine, I understand)
that was going to discover it

So true! The name isn't your problem

"100% of Sylvains are a pain in Forum."

See how bad data gives erroneous results.

Yes, it should be “Sylvain from 1001bricks is 100% a pain everywhere.”

If LEGO shuts down, there won't be much need to have brick separators in
future. Of course, there will still be bricks that exist now but we already have
plenty of separators too judging by the number on the market. Unless brick separators
start breaking en masse and they stop producing them, I won't be investing
in them.
