Hi all. I've read several posts here about selling used sets, but one thing
I'm still unsure of is how to organize the parts when packing them. The set
I'm selling is 100% complete with all the minifigs and instructions (no box).
I started to do my best to bag the parts in the order shown in the instruction
books. But then it occurred to me that a buyer might want to inventory the parts
to make sure they've received everything, and now I'm going back and
forth. As a seller, how do you organize and ship used sets? As a buyer, how do
you prefer to receive them? If you prefer to sell or receive them bagged in order
to follow instructions, what are your thoughts on mixing minifig parts in their
numbered bags?

I go through the instructions backwards and put the parts in numbered bags, sometimes
I will combine two bags. I have also, occasionally, sorted them by color to
help with verification on Bricklink.

I don't think it really matters, but I am interested in what buyers say in
this thread.

I went through this same debate and finally decided to pack by color. The order
list provided through Bricklink is sorted by color. As a buyer, it's fastest
for me to make sure I got everything if the bags I receive are sorted by color
and I can follow along and check items off with my order summary. I don't
order sets so I don't have that perspective of receiving one but I think
if I did I would still go to the inventory and check that I have all the parts
before I would attempt to build - and most inventories are sorted by color. An
experienced builder will have their own methods of sorting pieces for building
so I don't worry about the order in which they will need pieces during the
build.

The list is sorted by color by default but doesn't have to be. But in any
case what you've done is fine, assuming someone wants to build the set.

If I have bought a large order, I ask the order to be packed by color because
the verification is much easier.

However, I do sell complete sets on eBay. If a set is under 500 pieces, then
all the pieces go into 1 large bag, the glass and printed / stickered are bagged
together, and the minifigures are bagged together. The 2 smaller bags go into
the large bag. I then bubble wrap the bag and put it into a shipping box.

For sets that contain over 500 pieces, I bag each color separately again bagging
the glass, printed / stickered, and minifigures separately and place all those
bags into a mother bag, bubble wrap and pack into a shipping box.

In 19 years of doing it this way I have never received negative feedback.

I have bought sets on Bricklink as well and I find that by color is the most
efficient way to verify the contents. A couple times the sets were bagged by
number and much harder to verify as I had to sort the colors out first.
