Does anyone know why the price guide doesn't show the prices for older retired
sets? I put in the correct set number but it shows an error.

A few possibilities, in no particular order:

1. The set was never added to the BrickLink catalog and therefore was never sold
on BrickLink.

2. The set was added to the catalog but all order information on that set got
purged for one reason or another.

3. The set exists, but not with the set number you have on the box.

4. Other, unknowable reason, that I haven't thought of.

Cheers ...

5. If you are parting out as new, there's a possibility some pieces have
never sold in new condition, so will not allow you to part it out with the price
field empty? Just a thought

Which sets are you trying to get the value for? I can see the value for retired
sets.

The Galaxy Explorer hasn't been retired yet. It's still available on
LEGO.com.
