I was under the impression that all hair piece have either the part number, the
Lego word, or at least a (C) engraved.

That was until I stumbled on part 40239. Just a number “7” engraved.

Does that really mean it’s a knock off?

no not all Lego parts have the Lego logo or a c or a part number.
many just have the molding position number which is just 1 random number
