| Hi,
a (new) buyer ordered and accordingly to the order details paid with PayPal onsite,
an option we don't offer, only PayPal after making an invoice ourselves.
We now somehow can't change the order status. Order is shippend, but no option
to mark it that way and no option to send an drive thru because of that. Now
the order has arrived, customer satisfied, so I want to file the order. But I
can't, because no checkbox appears. The order status is still on "packed"
and the pull-down-menu has no more options to pick.
Anyone an idea how to file my order? (and yes, I could wait for 6 months for
it to get purged, but I don't know if that will happen. Cancelled orders
somehow seem to outlive the 6 month-timeframe quite regularly).
Hope someone has an idea how this could happen.
Kind regards,
Remko van Rosmalen

If tax or VAT was included in this order, then the payment must be Onsite so
that BrickLink may collect it.

You actually can have Manual payment options with instant checkout, just not
for destinations where VAT payment is required.

Then it’s not Instant Checkout, it’s just Auto-invoice.
The diagram should be (indeed, I didn’t major in arts ):

Ha, funny as I did actually major in arts. And this is all I have to show for
it!!
Actually, I have no experience with any offsite payment methods that work with
instant checkout, so I guess I should stick with my chart? Plus it has pretty
rounded corners.
Is it more common outside the US for buyers to check out with IC and then pay
some other way?

Pretty always beats accurate
(Remember, “Instant Checkout” is not the accurate term when payment is offsite
)

The two differences between Manual-invoice + offsite payment and Auto-invoice
+ any payment are:
1. shipping and handling is not “TBD” when you checkout,
2. you receive the invoice immediately (well, the e-mail is sent in a few milliseconds).
And the difference between Auto-invoice + offsite payment and (full) Instant
Checkout (= AI + Onsite) is that you are not sent to PayPal / Stripe to pay.
You still have the checkbox on the Order Placed list.
As to whether it’s common, well, every seller that has IC setup and offers offsite
payments would have it. So that accounts for many EU stores.

When I buy I have Instant Checkout and Auto Payment!!!
It seems the thing buys for me and pays by itself!
Which is perfect... until the end of the month, when the Credit Card reminds
me the 'Credit' part of its name

You DO offer PayPal Onsite in your terms.
Seems to me what happened is that the buyer chose PP Onsite but paid offsite.
Onsite doesn’t mean Auto-invoice. Onsite + Auto-invoice = Instant checkout,
but you can have the two separately (that is, Onsite with manual invoice and
Offsite with Auto-invoice).
The first question is: were there taxes involved?
(Taxes that BL has to collect: UK import VAT and US Sales taxes for you.)
Because if that’s the case, you are committing tax fraud: https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1401495
and the only solution is to refund the buyer and make them pay again but Onsite
this time.

Hmmm, you are right, I do offer PayPal onsite. Alltough I wonder if I marked
that option or if BL forced it on me because of my shipping destinations (outside
EU). Your image/diagram was helpfull. I saw onsite as the same as instant-checkout,
but there is a difference. Still doesn't seem right I can't control my
own order status!!!
And yes, Bricklink collected Sales Tax. About fraud: I think fraud is meant to
be intentionally. But they are calculated and visible in the column with "hidden
fees", so no possible fraud here.
Just a bug in the order status mechanic.....let me change it!

You need to:
1. activate the option on BL,
2. (that leads you to PayPal to) authorize BL to add/collect taxes.
So, it may be “forced” in the way you don’t have much choice but it’s not automatic

If the buyer didn’t pay through Onsite, which seems to be the case as the status
is blocked, then BrickLink didn’t actually collect the taxe.
So, what happened is that BL added the tax amount on the total and the buyer
gave it to you.
But:
0. BL didn’t get the money,
1. you are not authorized to collect foreign taxes,
2. you have no way to give the money to BL or to the US authorities.
That’s why it’s fraud (and doubly so):
— you got the tax money and you are keeping it,
— the authorities didn’t get the money, which is the same as the buyer not paying
it.

| Thank you Sylvain,
I will be asking my buyer to pay again onsite. I hope that is clear enough for
him, but I think it'll do.
