Hi All,

Just wondering how I go about requesting a a quote on shipping. I recently placed
and order where I asked for a quote o shipping and the store literally told me
because I placed the order I was committed.

Because I care about my rating I paid them, but the shipping was more than my
order even though I asked them to provide me a quote so I can decide what to
do.

The store told me they do not provide quotes on shipping but this is also not
advertised under their terms.

How do I go about requesting a shipping quote before committing to the order?

Thanks all.

If you have had a bad experience perhaps consider leaving appropriate feedback.

Hi,

1: Send an email before ordering. If they don't answer. Don't shop there.
2: Sometimes at the end at the order you can choose the option: request a quote.
3: But mostly the shippingcosts are in the terms of the seller.

Kind regards,
Tim

Placing an order and requesting a quote are two different processes. Just asking
for a quote in the text of placing an order is not the same thing.

The Request a Quote button will appear only on the last page of the checkout
process. You can safely ignore all the warnings you get before then that you
are obligated to purchase. It's a bug/feature of our system that has not
yet been corrected.

The quote will be active for 3 days while the seller adds the shipping charges
and you decide to purchase. The items are not reserved for you during this process
and any items that are sold during that time will delete your pending quote.

Having had similar experiences to the posted I disagree with your advice. Some
sellers believe those warnings and expect customers to pay whatever shipping
costs they invoice for. Generally acting quite defensive about their perceived
fairness of their chosen shipping amounts. I think the basics of a contact are
offer and acceptance which the bug/feature distorts.
I choose instant checkout wherever possible. One never knows when those warnings
appear if there’s a quote option enabled by the seller later in the process.
Thinking the warnings are a bug could lead to problems.

Jennnifer advises to go up to the last screen, where, when possible, you can
choose between ordering and asking for a quote.
She never said to go and order nd ignore the warnings if there’s no quote option.

And that’s the bug she’s talking about: Choosing between quote and order should
be earlier in the process.
The problem is double:
1. You need to go to the last screen before knowing if you can ask for a quote.
2. And when you ask for a quote, those warnings are meaningless.

Hello,

I am referring to the 'Items will be reserved for you, and you will be obligated
to purchase them.' warning that appear with the Agree & Continue button during
the checkout process.

You are only obligated to purchase after you click the Place Order button. Request
a Quote only appears on the last page with that button which is why one must
ignore the initial warnings in order make use of the feature.

Sounds like you had a bad experience with the contract element of our system.
It happens frequently I am afraid. Too many buyers have to learn the hard way
and too many sellers are tired of having to deal with 'inquiry' orders.
Let's all hope that BL fixing our checkout process.

Take care,

Wow - thank you for the information! I mostly sell and rarely buy these days
(so am unfamiliar with the checkout from a buyer's perspective), but needed
to get some Legos today. The seller terms stated they offered first class as
well as quotes, but in the checkout process I was faced with a stated cost for
priority mail and a BL message 'you are obligated to purchase these items'
next to the checkout button. Whereas I wanted either first class or a quote.

It was downright terrifying clicking through the checkout screens HOPING that
at some point I would find a way to see the first class price or a quote button,
and that I hadn't become obligated to ship via priority mail. I would not
even have attempted it (if I were a new customer), except for the fact that I
found this message in the forum and it gave me the courage to click through the
checkout buttons in blind faith that I wasn't actually 'committing to
buy'.

1. This behavior / user interface is awful. Does anyone (BL staff?) know
if there are plans to correct it?

2. BL doesn't allow me to add items from my own store to my cart so I can't
test this. I know I have quotes as well as invoice requests enabled. Am I understanding
this correctly that buyers don't actually see those options until after they
'agree to purchase items'? That would explain some emails I got from
irritated low feedback (new) buyers; perhaps this information is something I
should explain in my terms?
