Hi there,

I have created a Lego set for a well known brand.

Although the idea did not gain any traction on the Lego ideas section, the brand
have expressed interest in producing the set.

Whilst I have a meeting with a marketing person at this brand next week, I am
wondering if anyone can give me some guidance ahead of this meeting as to what
legos official stance is on making and selling a Lego set outside of the Lego
store.

For example…
I see that many brick-link sets and other sets use the Lego logo. I would love
to know if this is allowed, and if there is a specific email at Lego to contact,
or how the bricklink team managed to get permission to produce and sell your
sets?

I am hoping that more will be put into motion when this brand is able to reach
out to Lego, however, in the meantime… I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge
of this situation, or any terms and conditions about selling unofficial lego
yet official X brand sets?

Thanks

Congratulations!

You can't force the LEGO Group to produce a set that they don't want
to. That being said, you could reach out to the LEGO Group directly rather than
through LEGO IDEAS (or have the third-party brand do it) to see if they would
be interested in producing the set.

Aside from that, you could sell the set here on BrickLink as a custom item. BrickLink
generally frowns upon using third-party intellectual property in custom listings,
but if you can prove that you have permission from then brand owner then they
may be okay with it.

You can't use official LEGO branding if it's not an official LEGO set,
though. And there may be better sales channels for this than BrickLink. Maybe
have the brand do their own marketing and promotion?

Good luck!

You cannot use any LEGO logos or any implication that LEGO has authorised your
design. You are not a certified professional so cannot do what they do for their
sets.

Ouch. Don't go into a customer relations career.

I'd prefer all customer services were brief and to the point. If the answer
is no, say it is no rather than saying how great an idea something is and keep
the customer wasting their time thinking something is possible when it is not.

This subject interested me for a bit over a few days, i think my interest was
spurred by the tallneck or optimus. I spent days googling and watching interviews
and very few mentions of how this part of the process works. One article was
lego movie, lego movie two and that brought DC comics into the loop. The other
instance was one of the big bosses at lego and i dont quite remember what she
said but it was a quick statement in a larger interview. I did some quick googling
again and saw it took nintendo four years to bring mario to lego but those interviews
never mentioned how they got in touch.

Just google lego trademark and ypu will see what lego thinks of their brand,
and you will see lawsuits lego has filed. BTW bricklink is now owned by lego.
