| Why are there so many sellers with so much product and driving up prices insanely?
I genuinely would like to know if there's any good reason for it.
Just look through some of the listings for various parts (ie: road plates, chain
links, string with studs, tiles) ordered from most quantity to least, there are
quite a few sellers with an obnoxious amount of parts, and charging far more
per piece than a sane person would dare pay; Especially knowing it'd be cheaper
to order freshly fabricated parts, and sometimes entire sets, directly from lego.
Keep in mind handling fees, taxes/tariffs, and shipping all add to that nonsense,
so it will be hard to justify paying exponentially more for something people
get no guarantees about.
I would say that those stores shouldn't even be allowed to post any listings,
but I'm not the website manager. So if scalping and price gouging/fixing
are going to be a thing on this site, everyone and everything having anything
to do with it, or even references this site, is entirely worthless to me,
and likely others. Everyone else can enjoy the satisfaction that they've
got less sense than dollars.
Not the feedback people were looking for, was it?

| Anyone can list their items for sale at any price they like. It doesn't mean
they will sell for that price.
It is better to have a free market than for a company to try to control the market
through price fixing by forcing sellers to set allowed prices.

if your looking for value of items look at the sold not the for sale. for sale
prices could be people asking a higher price or a typo in a price can easily
adjust the prices so its best to look at the sold instead of the for sale. stores
generally price items at a price they believe they will get which to some customers
may seem overpriced but to others due to the selection and/or quality may be
a worthwhile purchase. don't forget the price guide is just an average of
sold prices which average out all the people who sell super low and drive down
prices with the people who sell high and drive up prices. it works out in the
end its the beauty of a free market. people also pay more for quantity since
then they don't have to pay the shipping price a dozen times from a dozen
different stores so it still can be cheaper to pay the higher asking price

Correction: down, the prices are being driven down.
At least for the 16+ years I'm checking them.

Scalping? Price gouging?
I don't think those words mean what you think they mean...

They can't drive up the price. Each store enters their own price for each
individual part. If one store has 90% of the available pieces then astute store
owners will gravitate to just below their price, but that's rare. If you're
talking about retired sets where there are only a handful available for sale
on BL, then that's just supply and demand.

Charging for and selling for are two different things. If they're charging
out the rear for something but there is nothing in the sales history, then it's
not a problem because nobody is paying that much. If they're charging (what
you consider) out the rear but there are hundreds of parts being sold per month,
then the market is balanced and you're just being cheap.

I don't think scalping and price gouging mean what you think they mean.
And if you think there isn't any value here, the sales statistics demonstrate
otherwise.
| Not the feedback people were looking for, was it?
|
Case in point, you think your post has a high value and from the looks of it,
no one is "buying it".

Prices have been going down as of late, not up.
Of course sellers with higher quantities are usually going to have higher prices.
Most people will pay a few cents per piece more to get everything at one place
than pay shipping for 5 different orders. Just normal business.
No, never ever restrict listings simply because they're priced too high or
too low. This is a free marketplace, and should stay one. Don't like the
prices, then don't buy the items.

So you're judging all sellers/the whole site based on a few overpriced items?
Seems legit…
