| Recently placed 21 orders, mostly small.
Received 11 so far.
Basic results to date :
3 perfect
8 with issues.
Issues range from bite marks, stress marks, strange wear problems and wrong colour.
In excess of 20 heads with bite marks of varying severity and one missing altogether.
Issues with headgear, hair and legs.
Not happy.
Let’s see what the other 10 look like.
I’m aware that some stores have notes in their terms as to possible marks but
none of the individual parts had a note, I purposely excluded any that had when
searching.
Spent a lot of time sourcing parts to avoid issues and now I’m going to spend
more time sorting this out and almost certainly trying to reorder the damaged
parts.
What’s the betting even these will have faults.

That's the problem with buying or selling Used, and why we quit selling Used
a few years ago.
Quality of Used is depending both buyer and seller interpretation; so, statistically,
you've more chances to disagree than to agree.
In short, you're playing a game where you'll probably lose.
If you don't wish this, don't play
Even with New it can be complicated (like a New part which has 10 years, picked
from a sealed set)...
The only solution I could see is some rating (feedback with 5 Stars) where other
buyers tend to an average about their perception of the Used quality sold by
a merchant.
This one is 4.5 Stars Used quality, this one ships poorer with 1.75 Stars...
So you may better guess what you'll be receiving.

| I agree with what you’ve said, it is often a case of interpretation for many
things.
We’ve seen others post about finding terms that either state or suggest that
used could mean bitten, chewed etc as this is a child’s toy, basically suggesting
virtually any state is acceptable.
Here are some bicorne’s that I’m puzzled about.
Why do they look like this :
Ignore the torso’s they are on, they are from my scrap pile just to mount the
headgear.
Photo 1 shows good side of hat.
Photo 2 shows strange uneven surface on same parts, looks like it’s been beaten.
Photo’s 3 & 4 show both sides of a seperate part I received in the same order.
A couple Of others I received in this order are ok.

Yah it’s absolutely crazy. For me when I get used orders in the mail I expect
a certain % of the parts to be unusable. Unfortunately some (seems like many)
sellers don’t take much care for used parts and it’s quite sad

| I have to say that the majority of the order was excellent and was the largest
purchase.
Sadly I also had a Darth Vader helmet with damage and most oddly I had an unusual
cheap construction helmet.
It has a hole through the top, looks original and not custom, the stud holder
inside is deeper and no number as it would have been where the hole is.
Anyone seen this construction helmet before ?

Absoletely No!
If used parts have damage such as bit marks, this must be noted in the item listing.
Sending wrong colour because item is used is OK??? You have to buy new to get
the correct part, huh?
Missing parts are OK if they are ordered as used.. what?
This is simply a case of poor standards below what is expected here. Maybe standards
are dropping amongst some sellers but the OP is absolutely right to call it out.
How can you buy old collectable parts as "new"? Very few are available
as new. Some sellers seem to list junk from kids toy boxes and try to pass them
off as AFOL collectable parts, these parts should either not be listed here at
all or, as per the TOS listed with the damage noted in the description.

I think this is the main reason why my Buyers keep coming back to my store; even
when they pay a premium compared to other Sellers of used items, they are typically
extremely happy with the quality of the used parts they receive from me...
In my opinion, quality counts for everything; and although it can be subjective,
if you can understand the disappointment of receiving less-than-satisfactory
used parts when you were counting on them to use in a unique MOC (as I have experienced
here as a Buyer), you undoubtedly understand how critical it is to make sure
you are not selling those types of less-than-satisfactory parts to your Buyers
who would have the same feeling of disappointment when received... in essence,
never sell items that you would not want to receive yourself if you were the
Buyer (& if you do, make sure you clearly note the damage in the part listing!).

| My approach too, I sell only what I would buy, unless I make a mistake and genuinely
miss something.
I’ve had the odd feedback saying they couldn’t tell the difference between my
used and new.
I want these parts to finish minifigures for sale, I can’t use damaged parts
for that.
The problem is that many are early figures and the heads are in the main, blocked
open studs and a few solid studs.

| This is partly why I tend to sell any vintage figures on ebay instead of here,
unless they really are perfect (which is not very common). It is much easier
to describe any faults, and you can include lots of photos.
I once had someone (here) complain that there were faint arcs on the sides of
a used figure's torso where the arms had been moved, and I had not mentioned
these in the description. Most played with used figures I've seen, especially
30+ year old ones, have similar marks. That is what prompted me to sell similar
vintage figures over there and not here. Plus you can photograph head types,
and so on and avoid any complaints about getting the wrong stud versions, and
so on.

| Reading through all the comments in this thread has made me realize I've
been killing myself being so picky about the bricks I sell. I've listed
brand new pieces while parting out as "used" because they had a few scratches
on them and any used bricks with more than two pits/bite marks I recycle because
to me they're unusable.

New bricks will always have at least minor wear to some extent but in general
bite marks and the like are good to not list or if listed listed as filler
or listed with the damage fully mentioned. In the long run it’s best to keep
quality up

| With you on that, one bite mark is one too many.

| Final count :
9 perfect
12 issues
A good proportion of the 12 had only one or two poor ( in my opinion ) parts
and the final result wasn’t as bad as I feared.
Now to sort things out.
All 21 arrived and all were processed in good time.
